A Letter From the Director
Welcome to the Michigan Opera Theatre Children's Chorus production of The Very Last Green Thing by Cary John Franklin. The opera was originally commissioned and premiered by the Opera Theatre of St. Louis in 1992 and addresses the timely issue of preserving the environment. We are delighted to partner with the Detroit Science Center-the first time that our two organizations are working together in a joint presentation. The demonstration prior to the opera is an abbreviated version of DSC's new educational touring show called "Going Green", We hope you wiU visit the Detroit Science Center and take advantage of all the unique programs they offer. Also joining us in our "green theme" is RECYCLEHERE! a local enterprise dedicated to the expa nsion of recycling. They provided all the recycling bins that are distributed in the lobby.
TIle MOTCC is always grateful for the support of its donors. We would like to especially thank the Mandell L. & Madeleine H. Bennan Foundation, the MGM Mirage Voice Foundation and the Lee and Maxine Peck Foundation for their generous support. We would also like to recognize the MOTCC parents who have donated countless hours of their time and talents as well as financial support in helping us make this program successful.
The final performance of the MOTCC for the 2009-2010 season will be next month in the Michigan Opera Theatre production of Puccini's Tosca. Thanks for "going green" and attending the MOTCC's The Vel'y Last Green 17ling. We hope you will enjoy the show.
