1 Overview
All, now that it's well into 2010, we have to think about our Copyright statements again.
UoS Team
For the UoS Team, any new documents, source files or executables should now contain the following text.
In new documents
© Copyright International Business Machines Corporation 2010. All rights reserved.
In new source files (e.g. .c or .sqc)
/* (C) Copyright International Business Machines Corporation 2010 */
In new executables (i.e. in the main program's source) use
#pragma comment( copyright, \"(C) Copyright International Business Machines Corporation 2010" )
For documents and code that existed before 2010, then you need to extend the existing statement. e.g.
#pragma comment( copyright, \"(C) Copyright International Business Machines Corporation 2000, 2010" )
Note: We don't use "All rights reserved" since the code isn't shipped outside the UK. I seem to remember that it's a legal requirement for Brazil.
Other AS Delivery teams
If you are publishing work that does not belong solely to IBM, you might have to add a non-IBM copyright notice. Make sure you take the following steps:
Follow the copyright stipulations in the contract that IBM has with the other party.
Consult the Intellectual Property Law department to ensure that you are using the correct copyright notice and that it is correctly placed in the publication.
PowerPoint considerations
Before publishing a PowerPoint presentation consider what's on the Slide Master
Choose View>Master>Slide Master
Click on the "copyright text" and ensure that the text and date(s) are correct. e.g. © Copyright IBM Corporation 2010
Remember to verify the text in both the title and body pages.
Also check the security classification in both places.
Note: I believe the date is supposed to apply to the creation and modification of the content of the slides not the template.

Overview: Using copyright notices
Details:IBM publications, online documents, and programs must have a copyright notice. Important online illustrations might also require a copyright notice that appears on the screen and when printed by computer.
If you are publishing work that does not belong solely to IBM, you might have to add a non-IBM copyright notice. Make sure you take the following steps:
Follow the copyright stipulations in the contract that IBM has with the other party. Consult the Intellectual Property Law department to ensure that you are using the correct copyright notice and that it is correctly placed in the publication.
Position of copyright noticesPrograms must display a copyright notice on the first screen image of the document and on the first screen image of each chapter or segment.
Examples: (C) Copyright IBM Corp. 19xx, 20yy. All rights reserved.8 Copyright International Business Machines Corporation 20xx, 20yy. All rights reserved.
If space is limited, Copyright, Corporation, or both can be abbreviated.
Examples: (C) Copyright IBM Corp. 19xx, 20yy. All rights reserved.(C) Copr. IBM Corp. 20xx, 20yy. All rights reserved.
The only legal abbreviation for the word Copyright in a notice is Copr., and it should be used only where there are serious space constraints. Even when space is very limited, either the word Copyright or its abbreviation should follow the copyright symbol: 8
If (C) is used, the word or its abbreviation must follow. Use of the abbreviation is usually limited to online documentation.
In printed information, use the copyright symbol if your tool allows. In online information (particularly information that is created in HTML or transformed to HTML), use the form (C).

Dates in the copyright noticeThe first date in the copyright notice is the earliest year that at least 5% of the material was originally copyrighted. The second date is the year that the current edition was copyrighted. Separate the two dates with a comma. If the material is all-new, use one date only.
Type size for the copyright noticeFollow ISO Standard ISO/IEC 18019, clause 9.3.1 (Presentation of text) Typefaces and Sizes, which says to use a type size that corresponds to a minimum of 9 point and a maximum of 11 point.
Copyright templatesA copyright notice template is available on the UT Web site and in the IDWB samples folder. Do not modify the statements in that notice (except for the date) without consulting your legal department.
IBM Global Services Method
This information was taken from a note from Geoff Southgate, dated 5-Feb-2001
IBM Global Services Method does not point specifically at any Coding Standards or Copyright Statements. However it does contain the APP117 Coding Guidelines Work Product in the Application Domain. This Work Product incorporates the topic "File and function prologues (security and copyright)".
Therefore any engagement must consider its own contractual position and should have the appropriate level of copyright included within the prologue of any code. The same would apply to any documentation produced.
