Technology is described as the application of science with the objective to enhance the tools in order to facilitateman’s hard work and survival. The evolution of science has leaded to the idea of technology as the use of science to indus-tries and commerce for applications in wars and medicine basically. Science and technology is more than that; it is the basisfor a new life style for humanity where all the human beings have the same rights and access to the information, goods andeducation. It is the force that will bring humanity to the principles of French Revolution: Freedom, Fraternity and Equality.Let’s remember the contributions of brilliant minds’ great work developing the devices which would change communica-tions and researches in every field of sciences not to mention the social aspects of a more democratic society where citizenshave access each time more and more to knowledge. In many ways Academy is the work force that has been producingalong centuries the scientists and researchers that have shaped this new world. Governments and Industries have alreadyrecognized the value of Education world wide and conferences are the best environment and time for discussions about theachievements of science, technology and education.

ICECE'2007 - International Conference on Engineering and Computer Education is one of these special events that

have the objective to promote and to discuss the most recent innovations in these fields. It is a forum where professionalsand researchers meet not only to discuss and to share ideas as well as to present their projects and proposals. The chosentheme has been "The always noble mission of the education: to work for the future."It is not necessary to point out theimportance of such discussions once it is fundamental to keep the level of development necessary to men’s survival. In everylevel through education is the way that we can reach the so called civilization and to assure better conditions for men to pre-serve and to live in the planet Earth.

ICECE’2007 has been organized by COPEC - Council of Researches in Education and Sciences and it has count-ed with the technical cooperation of many organizations as (in alphabetical order): AAMP (Fishing Museum FriendsSociety), ABENGE (Brazilian Society for Engineering Education), AENUI (Asociación de Enseñantes Universitarios de laInformática), ASEE (American Society for Engineering Education), ASIBEI (Iberian-American Association of EngineeringEducation Institutions), GCMM (Global Congress on Manufacturing and Management), IEEE-Ed.Soc. (Education Societyof the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), IGIP (Internationale Gesellschaft für Ingenieurpädagogik),INTERTECH (International Council for Engineering and Technology Education), IPN (IngeniøruddannelsernesPædagogiske Netværk), NBPAS (Brazilian Nucleus of Environmental Researches and Health), Porto Gente (Sea Port andPeople), RBE (Brazilian Network of Engineering) and SEFI (Société Européenne pour la Formation des Ingénieurs) andCultural Cooperation of Department of Culture of Santos.

We can not think a better way to make things happen than the good willing to make a difference. To make a dif-ference no matter where it is important to start and go ahead until something good happens and change. This is the spirit ofmany people around the world who are not happy with the way things are in this or that field. The same happens with engi-neers, computer scientists and educators all sharing the same feeling: the necessity to change for better.

ICECE’2007 provides once more a major forum for the discussions of all the aspects concerning the developmentof engineering and computer science and certainly the education that plays an important role in the formation of generationsof professionals and researchers who will promote the development of these fields.

We received many papers of great value and that instigates interesting discussions as well as important aspects that shouldbe considered. Our reviewers have made a great job providing us very clear evaluations and comments, which also leaded to asmaller number of papers than expected. We have to mention the important work of our secretariat that with all the unexpectedsituations along the process of organizing the congress had the spirit and the willing to overcome and to do their best.
