To highlight the tribal context and tribal languages in

Indian education system.

To discuss multilingual education and its practical issues,

challenges encountered in implementation and also

solutions adopted in teaching of language in Indian

classrooms.

About the Webinar

India is remarkably known for its linguistic and cultural

diversity. Numerous languages and dialects are spoken across

the country. Given this situation, the most important thing to a

child is acquiring communication skills in more than one

language and children can achieve this since acquisition for

them is very easy and effortless. The speed of learning is

influenced by many factors like innate abilities, environment,

motivation etc. In this contemporary world, learning many

languages can open doors to a wide personal, social and

economic opportunities. However, this webinar focuses on how

humans acquire or learn language(s) in multilingual

environment and provides a platform to discuss multilingualism

in India and its implications for language acquisition and

classroom language learning. It discusses the relationship

between mother tongue, school language and multilingual

education (MLE) in Indian context. It also focuses on the tribal

context and tribal languages in Indian education system.
