Great sense of pride to be a part of such a great club, knowing it’s the best total voluntary based club on the river. Extended family, great friends and just a fantastic place to spend a Saturday My favourite memories have to be growing up at the club sailing Jay Dees. Great times back then, with approximately mid-teens in number in the JD fleet. Sad to say tho, all the guys sailing JDs in my time have all but disappeared, with the exception of Ben Mawson and Susan Ghent Watching Rod McGregor and the Old Man dressed in drag, dancing around to Boogie With Me Baby , Played by Billy Devine, Ray Hancock and co at a Talent Night ages ago. I can still remember the old man’s tangerine fish net stockings he was wearing! Very funny sight it was to behold! Mudlarks, Jay Dees, Herons, Javelins, I14s, Waszp and the big boat, Aida I also was a club coach, a whie ago for a number of years. I coached the Mudlarks and JDs these sailors are now in 29ers Cherubs and even an I14 Ummm go to work! I work for CJW Marine as a boatman. Wedge(Chris Woodward) and Janine founded the company 30 odd years ago. Wedge is very well known around the club having been a long standing member and growing up there as well. Very accomplished yachty, having won several national titles in 505s and Javs sailing with Russ Hanrahan and Gary Kerman. Wedge doesn’t sail anymore as he is pursuing his love of motorsport racing his AU Falcon in the Super Salloons out Barbagellos. Ive been working for Wedge for at least the last 10 yrs or so I am the 3rd generation Moore to be a member of the club. My Grandpa, on Mums side, was a very long standing member of the club going back to the 50s. He used to sail 14s with Les Tomlinson on Scamp. During the late 60s, I believe Arthur Urquhart asked him to build 2 Signets to introduce to the club. So along with a few mates, this became a great success and so began the Signet fleet. Dad obviously has also been a long standing member. Dad is one of the longest serving members for the PDSC Committee. Dad was a member when he was a kid, sailing 14s when there 3 up with his brother Bruce and good mate Gary, who would later become his brother in law. Liam Wilson (Hannah and Willows eldest boy) is technically speaking the 4th generation Moore of the club The future of the club will always be bright and positive, as long as we have the members to continue on from the aging population of the club, which I’m sure we do and as long Twiggy bloody Forrest stops building monuments with his name plasted all over em, in what was “our” carpark, we should be just fine! 1988-89 Ok , so Im gonna bend the rules a bit here….All the members of Led Zeppelin (Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and the Late John Bonham) which I’m gonna count as 1. Ozzy Osbourne, Jimmi Hendrix and Sparrow (Gary Moore) He is my Mums late twin brother and was an awesome yachty. I don’t think much food would be eaten at this dinner table, but it would sure be a party!! Do you have any advice for new members of PDSC? Get involved! get your kids involved, buy a boat, sail every week and hang around for a beer or 2 after. Like I say, its very unique place and such a great spot to sail from, or just hang out on the balcony enjoying the view What might someone be surprised to know about you? During the 90s, when I was sailing 14s with Dutchy (Rob Hermans) during a Nationals, there was a professional photographer there with links to Australian Sailing. He took this great shot of us going down hill and needless to say, in the following months or so, the photo made the front cover! Lil, Graeme Lillis also got his photo in the same edition, but he made the centre spread! He copped heaps for that… Do you have any other hobbies apart from being at PDSC? Fooling about in my garden, making macramé pot plant hangers, rope door matts etc…. Recently I have started a 5000 piece jigsaw puzzle and occasionally I like to belt the crap out of my drum kit! What do you wish other people knew about PDSC The history of the place. Its so important to know your roots and how everything evolved. I believe it quite a unique place with such a rich history sailing on Perth Waters
