• Costs to Students– 67% of teen moms drop out.

• Dropouts earn about 260,000 less in a lifetime

– Costs to Families• The average cost to raise a child up to age 2 is $5,440, and since

most teen moms can’t afford that, the families have to contribute

– Costs to Schools• Loss of funding when a student drops out• Costs of special programs to help her and her child

– Costs to Society• Costs of public assistance $2.2 billion each year. 80% of teen moms

end up on public assistance• Child Abuse programs – Children of teen moms are 2 times more like

to be abused than those born to 20 or 21 year olds• Medical Care - $1.5 billion each year is spent to provide medical care

to mom and baby
