Notes—Coprinus pinetorumischaracterisedbyitssmallsize(ascomparedwithC. comatus),itssporeswithslightlybroad- enedbase(8–11×5.5–8µm)andbyfruitingamongneedlesof Pinus halepensis.InourITSphylogeny(MycoBanksupplementarydata)Coprinus pinetorumissignificantlyrelatedtoC. comatus, C. sterquilinus, C. vosoustii and C. littoralis.Theyallbelongtosubsect.Coprinuss.Uljé(theC. comatusgroup).Coprinus comatus differs from C. pinetorum by its more robust habit and by fruiting on strongly nitrified sites (gardens, roadsides and paths or onlawns).Coprinus sterquilinus differs from C. pinetorum by its solitarybasidiocarps,verylargespores(17–26×10–15µm)andthehabitatondung.Coprinus vosoustii differs from C. pine torum by its ovoid cap, thick ochraceous and persistent veil forming a star-shaped layer at centre, and much larger spores (17–20×10–12µm).Coprinus littoralis differs from C. pinetorumbyitslargerbasidiocarps,largerspores(13–20×8–12µm)withslightlyeccentricgermporeandthepsammophiloushabitatinlittoraldunes.Macroscopically, C. spadiceisporus, a very rare species de-scribedfromtheStateofWashingtonbyVandeBogart(1976),is also a C. comatus-likefungus.Nevertheless,itdiffersfromC. pinetorum by fruiting on dung and by its spores with eccen-tricgermpore(VandeBogart1976).AnotherC. comatus-like fungus which resembles Coprinus pinetorum is C. levisticolens.However,C. levisticolens differs from C. pinetorum by its scaly cap,largerspores(11–14.5×7–8µm)witheccentricgermporeand by fruiting on sandy soil under Populus alba and Crataegus spp.(Ludwig&Roux1995).
