Bateman Solvent Extraction (BSX) and the Solution Purification Group (SPG)
Bateman formed a solvent extraction business unit (BSX) which operates as a combined technology developer and package plant supplier specializing in solvent extraction processes. BSX works closely with other Bateman Business divisions and shares resources and knowledge with them to provide Ion Exchange (IX), Solvent Extraction (SX), and Electrowinning (EW) plants worldwide under a non‐formal entity named the Solution Purification Group (SPG).

The Bateman SPG team has extensive experience and expertise in all aspects of IX, SX and EW. This includes:
Development of SX processes utilizing BSX’s R&D centre.
Detailed design, supply and construction of SX/EW plants based on the BATEMAN SETTLER™ (Bateman’s Reverse Flow Settler) as well as the Bateman Pulsed Column (BPC), and IX plants based on technology supplied to the uranium and base metal industries.
Excellent business and working relationship with technology providers for EW tank houses.
BSX specifically focuses on SX and its activities include development of SX processes, design of SX plants, design and supply of SX contactors including mixer‐settlers (the Bateman Reverse Flow Settler) as well as the Bateman Pulsed Column (BPC) and the latest development of the Bateman Pulsed Column with Intermediate Decanter (BPCID).
In addition BSX has a strong SX R&D team, located at Bateman’s research centre at Katzrin, Israel. Through this R&D centre, BSX has successfully developed and implemented various SX plants, many of which started with laboratory test work, bench and mini‐pilot plant testing followed by pilot plants and demonstration plants. These normally progressed to implementation of full‐scale industrial plants using both mixer‐settlers and BPC’s.

Unique qualifications and experience
Bateman’s copper SX/EW team combines experience in operating large‐scale copper leach‐SX‐EW operations as well as experience in designing, constructing and commissioning new plants all around the world. Team members have worked in operations, represented the client during new construction, and have been process/project engineers on the engineering side of new projects.
For copper SX plants BSX provides its Patented Reverse Flow Mixer Settler – the BATEMAN SETTLERTM.
The BATEMAN SETTLERTM was initially introduced to the mineral industry in the early 90’s by Bateman which patented the design in the USA, Mexico and Australia. US. Patent No. 5 558 780 and Australian Petty Patent No. 678 749 have been awarded for this reverse‐flow settler for solvent extraction.
The BATEMAN SETTLERTM, with its advanced design and enhanced efficiency, provides many advantages compared to conventional settlers used in Solvent Extraction circuits.
High process efficiency with low organic loss
Compact layout
Short construction time
Low capital cost
Ease of operation and maintenance
Bateman’s experience with designing, installing and commissioning SX plants using the BATEMAN SETTLER®, enables it to supply the SX section of a copper SX plant on a LSTK basis and provide the client with full process and mechanical guarantees.
The BATEMAN SETTLERTM
Advantages of the BATEMAN SETTLERTM compared to similar designs:
Approximately a 20 % reduction in capital cost for the SX plant.
Increased flux rate capability which can further reduce costs.
Decreased organic losses
Operator friendly physical layout.
Total automatic control capability.
Increased fire prevention and control features
