Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center is pleased to present a Literature Workshop by Mexican author María García Esperón on May 5th, 2014 at 1pm. This FREE workshop is geared for grades 6th-12th. Students will listen to a reading of Copo de Algodón and then participate in a writing activity inspired by Aztec poetry. Copo de Algodón tells the story of Tecuixpo Ixtlaxóchitl, the daughter of emperor Moctezuma. The 9 year old girl speaks in the name of her people and family and describes the experience of the Conquest of Mexico. She also recreates the poetry, religion, philosophy, art, war and sacrifice of the Aztecs, the People of the Sun. Tecuixpo ‘s story begins at her birthday and ends in the sad day when the army of emperor Cuauhtémoc, her husband, was defeated by Hernán Cortes and his tlaxcaltecas allies. FREE! - ¡GRATIS! Algodón The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center is pleased to

El Emma S. Barrientos Centro Cultural México Americano se complace en

presentar un Taller de Literatura GRATIS de la autora mexicana María García

Esperón el 5 de mayo de 2014 a 1pm . Este taller está orientado para los grados

6 al 12 . Los estudiantes escucharán una lectura de Copo de Algodón y luego

participarán en una actividad de escritura inspirada por la poesía azteca.

Copo de Algodón cuenta la historia de Tecuixpo Ixtlaxóchitl , la hija del

emperador Moctezuma. La niña de 9 años de edad habla en nombre de su

pueblo y la familia y describe la experiencia de la Conquista de México . Ella

también recrea la poesía, religión, filosofía, el arte, la guerra y el sacrificio de los

aztecas, la Gente del sol. Historia Tecuixpo ' s comienza en su cumpleaños y

termina en el triste día en que el ejército del emperador Cuauhtémoc , su

marido, se defetead por Hernán Cortés y sus aliados tlaxcaltecas .
