COPLESTON IS A SPECIAL PLACE TO BE. This is what students, staff, parents and visitors say about our school. It is an oversubscribed, mixed comprehensive school with about 1800 students; 350 of whom study in the Sixth Form. Copleston High School is an Academy. This means that the Governing Body of Copleston High School is the admission authority for the school with responsibility for setting and applying the admissions policy. The application process for admissions into Copleston High School is co-ordinated by Suffolk Local Authority (LA), which acts on behalf of the Governing Body to offer places at the school.

Copleston is different. Copleston is committed to providing a wide range of enrichment opportunities to students. This includes access to high quality sporting facilities in order to inspire students of all abilities. As recently as July 2012 we have received sponsorship from Inspired Facilities Lottery Funding for a high quality new sprung floor within our main Sports Hall. The shorter curriculum time on Wednesdays allows staff to engage in valuable collaborative planning time whilst students can enrich their school experience with added courses and other extra-curricular activities.

THE PRINCIPAL AIM OF THE SCHOOL IS TO ENABLE ALL STUDENTS TO ACHIEVE THEIR BEST. This is brought about by continually developing a stimulating curriculum supported by the highest standards of teaching and learning. A warm and caring environment is created so that students may thrive. Their successes are celebrated in as many ways as possible; posters around the school, achievement assemblies and celebration evenings all help to show students how they are valued as individuals.

COPLESTON IS A HEALTHY SCHOOL. Students are encouraged to adopt a healthy life-style. Dining facilities continue to be upgraded and menus are delivered in line with Government legislation.

Students achieve their best when they play a full and active part in school life and to this end learning is supported by an impressive range of activities, both within school and extra-curricular. We want every student to feel valued and to strive for success, not only for themselves but for the school as a whole. It is important for students to develop the concept of mutual respect, to communicate effectively and work efficiently as part of a team.

THE WELFARE AND SAFETY OF OUR STUDENTS IS PARAMOUNT. Our everyday practice at Copleston reflects this. Staff are regularly trained to ensure that our robust procedures are followed and visitors to the school are expected to adhere to these procedures. Our students are also educated via PSHE and assemblies about their role in keeping themselves and others healthy and safe. Our Safeguarding Policy is available on our website and also on request from the school reception.
