PVTsim and Customized Software Solutions Used by more than 200 companies worldwide. Industry standard for fluid property simulations.Applicable as PVT engine in external software through Open Structure architecture. Implemented in UniSim.

Solid FormationWax formation and deposition analysis.Gas hydrate formation and inhibition by liquid inhibitors and brine.Asphaltene precipitation. Scale formation.

ProcessWater content in gas. Influence of dissolved salts.Isenthalpic and isentropic processes.Input to Hysys and PRO/II.

EOS Model Development Modeling of gas condensates, near critical fluids, black oils, and heavy oils.Common EOS model for multiple fluids in commingled production.Reservoir zone communication analyses.Match of EOR Data. Application to miscible gas injection.Input to Eclipse, OLGA, and Prosper.

Research To remain at the forefront of reservoir fluid modeling, Calsep conducts joint industry projects. Calsep attends oil and gas conferences to find out what new challenges the industry is facing within fluid modeling. Combined with continuous internal research efforts, this enables Calsep to provide the industry with tomorrow’s solutions to today’s problems.

Selected Topics for Calsep’s Research projects

Training Training of engineers and others who wanted to gain insight into the thermodynamic phase behavior of petroleum reservoir fluids has been a core activity for Calsep for the past three decades. With its mix of theory andpractice, Calsep’s courses remain the ideal choice for industry personnel interested in applying PVTsim for simulation of oil and gas phase behavior and learning about PVT simulation models in general.

DESIGN OF METHANOL HYDRATE INHIBITOR INJECTION SCHEME FOR A NORTH SEA PIPELINEThe hydrate potential for a pipeline system was evaluated, and the required amount of methanol to prevent hydrate formation was determined for various scenarios, including normal production, shutdown, and start up.

DEVELOPMENT OF EOS MODEL FOR KUWAITI FIELDAn EOS model for miscible gas injection EOR was developed for a Kuwaiti reservoir fluid andthree different injection gases (CO2, Lean Gas, and Rich Gas). The reservoir fluid composition and PVT data were QC’ed and an eight component model developed matching routine PVT and EOR data (incl. Swelling Test, Equilibrium Contact, Multiple Contact, and Slim Tube MMPs). The EOS model was exported to Eclipse Compositional reservoir simulator.

UNIFICATION AND UPGRADE OF EXISTING MPM AND ALLOCATION SOLUTIONS Existing Multi Phase Meter (MPM) and allocation solutions on three Norwegian fields were upgraded and unified into one object oriented COM-solution based on the PVTsim Open Structure technology. An MPM and allocation solution for a new field was developed and added to the unified solution.

FIELD LIFE WAX DEPOSITION STUDY FOR NORTH SEA PIPELINEWax deposition was simulated for a multiphase pipeline for a field’s life time. The simulation emulated anincrease in water cut% and a decrease in flow rate over a 10 year period. Simulation results included waxlayer thickness, location, and quantity of deposited wax, as well as pressure and temperature profiles.
