What if we did things differently? That’s what our team asked ourselves when we started to think about

evolving our popular (cool) mom style series into a quarterly ezine. There are tons of magazines out there that feature women’s fashion. There even more blogs and websites that look at “mom” life. What happens when you combine the two and take it for a (cool)

spin - - all with Baltimore flavor?

The (cool) mom style little black book.

The first thing I do when my favorite magazines arrive is flip through for the articles. It’s kind of like picking crabs — you have to sift through to find the ‘meat.’

What did we do differently? There are no ads in this ezine.

Instead, we decided to work directly with boutiques and salons to create content specifically for local moms.

Every business featured in our little black book contributed financially to the project. Our team put together the styles and shaped the direction of the

tutorials. A real content partnership.

It’s all local. If you read (cool) progeny, you know we’re all about shopping small and supporting local

businesses. So we used all local partners — even our models were local moms! See something you love?

Last but not least, we had so much fun making it. We’re all moms. We know what it’s like to try and get out

the door in the morning. So we have hair and make-up tutorials that can be done in a snap. Your day? It’s

crazy. We have outfits that coordinate with every item on your planner. Those moms in your life that always look so pulled together despite the organized chaos?

We asked them their secrets. {And they told us!}

Use a highlighter to lighten those dark circles. Create a “v” under each eye to brighten. Don’t forget the eyelids!

Eyeshadow! Lighter and bright is the key to looking cheery and awake… even if that first cup of java hasn’t kicked in.

4 Cream blush is the key to a fresh-looking face! Don’t be afraid to go darker and brighter with the tone and blend, blend, blend!

Apply a layer of your favorite foundation. You can use a sponge applicator or your fingertips… just be sure to blend.

Mascara. Go big or go home, right? Darkening those lashes will make a big statement. Don't forget the bottom ones.

Time for mascara. Go big or go home when it comes to eyes. A great black mascara is all you need for definition. Don't forget the bottom lashes.

Favorite local place to shop? My boutique neighbor in Ruxton, JG Sassy. The owner Kearny has a great sense of style and the best designer roster. Every time I run in to say "hi", I always leave with some new piece of clothing or a great accessory.

What’s your go-to work outfit? Our office is very casual, but I also spend a lot of time meeting with local executives, so I have to find a balance. If I wore a suit, I would definitely stand out in my office, but if I wore jeans, my meetings wouldn't take me seriously. I usually wear a dress that can be dressed up or down- with sandals, or tights and boots, depending on the season, or with a nice pair of wedges. Comfort and versatility are key.

Mom, Dandy Warhols fan, and PR girl who loves Veronica Mars’ style, Bridget Forney Deise is a woman-on-the-go.

Usually up around 5 AM, Bridget starts her day with coffee on the deck with the dachshund. She then makes sure her two kiddos get breakfast and stands over her computer in the dining room, paging through Facebook, Instagram, the Baltimore Sun, and Wall Street Journal.

That’s when the important conversations arise with her son — you know, dinosaurs, trains, and the like.

After school drop off, she heads to work. It’s a day of TV interviews, emails, pitches, content development, social media management, interviews, and meetings.

All before a sushi lunch.

Afternoons are usually full of meetings before one more email check and heading home to the kiddos. Dinner is either at her in-law’s house (it’s just two blocks away) or a Plated box ready to unpack and cook. Then it’s time for a walk with the kids, soccer in the backyard, baths, stories, bed…

… and maybe three pages of a book. If she can keep her eyes open.

Stacey Seward-Vandiver is a hippie at heart who takes her coffee strong — with a bit of warm almond milk.

“Fleetwood Mac is my all-time fav!” said Stacey. You’ll find Ibiza playlists and Lenny Kravitz playing on her Spotify, too.

Mom to four and co-owner of Soul Body, a wellness consulting group and barre certification program, Stacey finds that no one day looks quite like another. After getting her kids off to school, she will either teach a class, train someone privately or, on the rare morning, workout herself.

(Side note, if you’ve taken a barre class at Under Armour’s Performance Center, Merritt, or Beach Fit, it was probably a Soul Body class!)

The rest of the day is reserved for meetings, demos, meet ’n greets, or catching up on work in her home office.

Although each day is different, one thing is constant: her work day ends at 3:30 PM. That’s when her ‘mom’ job kicks into high gear.

“I find myself driving a lot after school!” said Stacey.

Bedtime? Usually after 11 PM. This busy mom is a self-proclaimed night owl.

It’s not often that I have more than exactly three minutes to do my hair in the morning. While the ‘messy bun’ is sometimes replaced by the ‘sleek pony,’ I’m not sure I’m exactly rocking the pony tail. But hey, it’s better than bed head.

Separate hair into three sections.

Secure middle section with a hair tie.

Wrap side section around middle section.

Secure with a bobby pin.Wrap other side section around middle. Secure with bobby pin and spray with your fav hairspray.

Add a little texture to your hair with a comb.

Pull the bottom half of your hair into a pony tail a few inches below the first. Secure it with a band.

Pull the top half of your hair into a pony tail. Secure it with a band.

Tease, baby! Add volume to each pony tail with your fingers or a comb.

Adjust the top pony tail so it ‘hides’ the bottom. You’re ready to go!

Secure with a hair tie.

Twist the second section along the nape of your neck. Secure with bobby pins.

Morning run? She makes it some mornings. Other mornings the snooze button wins.

After tag-teaming lunch prep with her husband and starting a cup of dark roast coffee with cream and two sugars, she gets two bites of cereal in before “MAMMA, can you…” starts. Then it’s a race to get the kiddos ready and out the door.

She'll walk the kids to school, reheat the coffee and head to work at The Girl Next Door or a styling project in her home office. It’s a busy day of marketing work and more until 3:30. Work ends at school pick-up.

Then it's homework, dinner, 5 o’clock catch up calls with her favorite girls, and racing to Core Power Yoga so she can get back before bedtime.

Like lunch making, she and her husband tag-team gym time. When the kids are in bed and he’s hitting the treadmill, she indulges in some quality Bravo television.

There's nothing more entertaining than the Housewives… of (pick your favorite city).

If she's lucky, she's sleeping peacefully by 11:30 PM. And hopefully making her run the next morning!
