F r e s h i n 5 A quick and easy morning make-up look that will have you looking fresh — even if the java hasn’t kicked in.

s t y l e a r o u n d t o w n We asked four moms about town their favorite style advice…

What if we did things differently? That’s what our team asked ourselves when we started to think about

evolving our popular (cool) mom style series into a quarterly ezine. There are tons of magazines out there that feature women’s fashion. There even more blogs and websites that look at “mom” life. What happens when you combine the two and take it for a (cool)

spin - - all with Baltimore flavor?

The (cool) mom style little black book.

The first thing I do when my favorite magazines arrive is flip through for the articles. It’s kind of like picking crabs — you have to sift through to find the ‘meat.’

What did we do differently? There are no ads in this ezine.

Instead, we decided to work directly with boutiques and salons to create content specifically for local moms.

Every business featured in our little black book contributed financially to the project. Our team put together the styles and shaped the direction of the

tutorials. A real content partnership.

It’s all local. If you read (cool) progeny, you know we’re all about shopping small and supporting local

businesses. So we used all local partners — even our models were local moms! See something you love?

Click on the link. You’ll go directly to the boutique or salon’s website for more information.

Last but not least, we had so much fun making it. We’re all moms. We know what it’s like to try and get out

the door in the morning. So we have hair and make-up tutorials that can be done in a snap. Your day? It’s

crazy. We have outfits that coordinate with every item on your planner. Those moms in your life that always look so pulled together despite the organized chaos?

We asked them their secrets. {And they told us!}

Enjoy! And let us know what you’d like to see in our holiday style edition. We’re already working on it!

Start with a moisturizer. Hydration is key, especially when you're feeling rushed or blasé. Then follow-up with a tinted moisturizer that works with your skin tone. {Yes! You should use both!} 1,

looking fresh in 5

The whole house woke up late and you have exactly 20 minutes to get everyone - - including yourself - - ready for drop-off. You could grab the shades and hide behind them… or you could streamline your make-up routine and look ah-mazing.

{Looking it is half the battle, right?}

Kristen Floyd, esthetician and make-up artist, put together this fabulous ‘fresh face’ look. And it all comes together in under 5 minutes.

Consider it your newest ‘mom life’ hack. Customize it for your skin and spend less time in front of the mirror every morning.

… and maybe have time for a HOT cup of coffee for once?

Use a highlighter to lighten those dark circles. Create a “v” under each eye to brighten. Don’t forget the eyelids!

Eyeshadow! Lighter and bright is the key to looking cheery and awake… even if that first cup of java hasn’t kicked in.

2

4 Cream blush is the key to a fresh-looking face! Don’t be afraid to go darker and brighter with the tone and blend, blend, blend!

5

Apply a layer of your favorite foundation. You can use a sponge applicator or your fingertips… just be sure to blend.

3

Mascara. Go big or go home, right? Darkening those lashes will make a big statement. Don't forget the bottom ones.

6

Time for mascara. Go big or go home when it comes to eyes. A great black mascara is all you need for definition. Don't forget the bottom lashes.

6

Just add gloss! A sheer shine and you’re ready to take on the day. {Or at least, look it!}

Favorite local place to shop? My boutique neighbor in Ruxton, JG Sassy. The owner Kearny has a great sense of style and the best designer roster. Every time I run in to say "hi", I always leave with some new piece of clothing or a great accessory.

M i a A n t a l i c s Owner, Garnish Boutique

What’s your go-to work outfit? Our office is very casual, but I also spend a lot of time meeting with local executives, so I have to find a balance. If I wore a suit, I would definitely stand out in my office, but if I wore jeans, my meetings wouldn't take me seriously. I usually wear a dress that can be dressed up or down- with sandals, or tights and boots, depending on the season, or with a nice pair of wedges. Comfort and versatility are key.

T h a r a M . T a y l o r Vice President, Development and Communications, Living Classrooms Foundation

What’s your favorite lipstick color? Anything bold and matte. Currently loving LAQA & Co. in Minotaur.

J e n i f e r H a r r i n g t o n Sales Consultant, Mid Atlantic Media

Who is your style icon? I love the way Reese Witherspoon dresses. Her style is like mine, very feminine and classic, with bright hues and clean lines. I just ordered some things from her new clothing line, Draper James. Also, Kate Hudson. I love her yoga line Fabletics for day and her old Hollywood glamour look for evening.

Mom, Dandy Warhols fan, and PR girl who loves Veronica Mars’ style, Bridget Forney Deise is a woman-on-the-go.

Usually up around 5 AM, Bridget starts her day with coffee on the deck with the dachshund. She then makes sure her two kiddos get breakfast and stands over her computer in the dining room, paging through Facebook, Instagram, the Baltimore Sun, and Wall Street Journal.

That’s when the important conversations arise with her son — you know, dinosaurs, trains, and the like.

After school drop off, she heads to work. It’s a day of TV interviews, emails, pitches, content development, social media management, interviews, and meetings.

All before a sushi lunch.

Afternoons are usually full of meetings before one more email check and heading home to the kiddos. Dinner is either at her in-law’s house (it’s just two blocks away) or a Plated box ready to unpack and cook. Then it’s time for a walk with the kids, soccer in the backyard, baths, stories, bed…

… and maybe three pages of a book. If she can keep her eyes open.

If you’re a mom, no one day looks the same.

One day you are heading to the office bright and early. The next you’re squeezing in a doctor’s appointment, field trip, conference

call-in-the-car, coffee with friends, and then soccer.

All bets are off if the school calls.

No matter what your day looks like, we’ve got a look that will work for you. Guess what? Everything you see here is from a local

Baltimore boutique. Because shopping small is (cool).

The dreaded early morning meeting (usually a Monday, right?). Not enough coffee to start your day. But you CAN dress yourself to improve your day!

This feminine Ella Rose Richards Sorose dress will make you smile every time some one compliments you. Stay cozy walking from the parking lot to your office in style wearing this Harris Wharf London Flairy Coat. Accessorize with a Made square shift brass necklace and

Morra Designs gold oval earrings — all from The Girl Next Door in Cross Keys.

Finish your look with Seychelles Lucky Penny Booties from Sassanova.

Lucky you! You get to ride the bus with 100 incredibly well-behaved (right?) children! Despite the instinct to grab the oldest clothes possible from the depths of your closet, don’t do it.

Step away from the yoga pants, too.

Jeans will NEVER go out of style. When you find a great pair (whatever the cut!), own them. Keep your style current with on-trend tops and shoes.

If you buy only one thing this fall, it should be this European Culture french terry blazer. The soft-knit Velvet striped top pairs perfectly with the IRO jeans. The Un Billion camo bag will hold plenty of bandaids and tissues— plus the kids will think it’s cool. And these Superga

quilted sneakers? Perfect for walking around and around. Post field-trip, dress it up a bit with a Made brass bracelet and a Printed Village sundial scarf. Then RUN to happy hour!

You just scored THE interview. Fantastic! Now, what to wear? A lot of people automatically think suit. But say ‘hell no, we won’t go’… out wearing a suit.

(Actually, there are some great suits out there. But that’s for a different story).

Ted Baker knew what he was doing when he designed this Fyra Cherry dress. The adorable details say “Hey, I’m intelligent AND I have style.” With a statement like that, all you need are some opaque tights and these L.K.Bennett Harley suede pumps. Carry your iPad and planner in this Botkier Soho tote — then ditch the tote, grab your favorite clutch, and celebrate your new gig

with dinner at your favorite restaurant!

(Of course you’ll get the job — you’ll look killer in this outfit!)

This entire look can be found at Sassanova.

If you know you’re going out after work with your colleagues or a client, you should definitely wear something that fabulously transitions from office to social.

Don’t fade into the background. Your clients want to see that you have style. This sleeveless plaid dress by W by Worth will help keep you cool while you’re busy chatting. When you get

cold, or get to step out for some fresh air, grab your W by Worth boiled wool cape jacket. This Badgely Mischka quilted crossbody (The Little Shoebox) well for post-office shindigs.

But don’t keep it all tailored. Show a little edge with this Rachel Mulherin Spiked Chain and Valdini Sinead tall boots from The Little Shoebox. Amazingly comfortable.

Have to speak in front of your coworkers, moms group, PTA, or neighborhood association? Don’t fear. This outfit is an immediate confidence booster. You’ll look great, too.

We’re pretty confident that the designers at Theory made this Nitee sleeveless top and Testra navy pants just for those who need to look amazing while giving a speech. {It’s possible, right?}

The tie neck is IN this season and the top’s length with a slim tunic is flattering on everyone. Hold all your essentials in this simply elegant Kate Spade Chatham Street bag. Subtle accessories

are a perfect way to add a touch of sparkle. We suggest Julie Vos hoop earrings paired with Tinsley and Soho bangles. All available at JG Sassy.

The shoe that was made for this look? Butter’s Navy Suede Pump, from The Little Shoebox.

If you are meeting a client for lunch — or even your favorite gal pals — you want to look effortlessly trendy yet comfortable. If you’re wearing uncomfortable clothes, chances are

you’re going to fling that sushi across the room a la Julia Roberts and the ‘slippery little sucker’ incident in Pretty Woman. Might throw a curve ball into landing that new account…

Separates are a great way to mix and match and show your own personal style. This seemingly simple J.McLaughlin Sataya sweater gets some personality with quilted

patchwork on the sleeve. Pair it with J.McLaughlin’s Bonnebell tweed skirt and Nika Reversible faux fur vest for a fabulous finish. Need a little bit of glam? The  Jon Josef leopard bootie (The Little Shoebox) will do the trick with the Rachel Mulherin Elizabeth labradite

and jasper necklace.

Don’t forget your phone and your wallet! They’ll fit perfectly in this compact J.McLaughlin Fielding crossbody bag.

A glance at the planner and you realize you’ll be immediately running straight to a PTA meeting from work. Two things come to mind: comfort and style. Not a dress - - or even a

skirt. The situation calls for the perfect pant and top combo.

These Amy Matto Dempsey pants from Sassanova? Love at first sight. Pair them with this Ella Moss long sleeve fringe top and a Julie Vos Baroque cuff so you’ll be ready for navigating

parents and colleagues all day and evening.

Loeffler Randall Lia thick heel bootie gives you a lift with the comfort of a larger heel. Exactly what you need for a long day on your feet. This gorgeous Hammit Daniel Tote carries

everything. Diapers. Contracts. Snacks.

{Don’t forget the snacks.}

Whether it’s casual day in th office or you’re working from home, the first thing we all think of is JEANS! Denim is so easy to wear. But don’t grab any old t-shirt or sweater.

As the old adage goes, dress for success. You don’t need a formal dress and heels, but you’ll be shocked to see how much more productive and creative you can be if you put a little

effort into your look.

An effortless chic Joie Jacinta silk top and Joe’s Charlie flare jeans are the perfect solution! Running out for lunch? Throw on this Bailey 44 Waverly faux fur vest and toss your notebook and wallet in this Annabel Ingall Isabella Tote. All available from JG Sassy.

Final touches? Dean Davidson’s spectrum pendent and hoop earrings with Bettye  Muller Leopard heels from The Little Shoebox.

{Because they look and feel fabulous.}

FINALLY! It’s Friday (or a random Tuesday) and you’ve scored a sitter. You and your fav person are going out on the town. Or five miles down the road. Or to the neighborhood bar down the

street.

Wherever you’re headed, remind your partner why they fell for you in the first place.

This J.McLaughlin Poppy Dress in manhattan plaid works for the office with a blazer and transitions to date night with zero effort. Add a funky leather Sonya Renee leather wrap

bracelet (The Little Shoebox) and cashmere poncho (J.McLaughlin) for a less traditional vibe. What’s left? The L.K. Bennett Faris ankle boot from Sassanova— a fab alternative to the pump

— and quilted leather Big Buddha bucket tote from The Little Shoebox.

Stacey Seward-Vandiver is a hippie at heart who takes her coffee strong — with a bit of warm almond milk.

“Fleetwood Mac is my all-time fav!” said Stacey. You’ll find Ibiza playlists and Lenny Kravitz playing on her Spotify, too.

Mom to four and co-owner of Soul Body, a wellness consulting group and barre certification program, Stacey finds that no one day looks quite like another. After getting her kids off to school, she will either teach a class, train someone privately or, on the rare morning, workout herself.

(Side note, if you’ve taken a barre class at Under Armour’s Performance Center, Merritt, or Beach Fit, it was probably a Soul Body class!)

The rest of the day is reserved for meetings, demos, meet ’n greets, or catching up on work in her home office.

Although each day is different, one thing is constant: her work day ends at 3:30 PM. That’s when her ‘mom’ job kicks into high gear.

“I find myself driving a lot after school!” said Stacey.

Bedtime? Usually after 11 PM. This busy mom is a self-proclaimed night owl.

It’s not often that I have more than exactly three minutes to do my hair in the morning. While the ‘messy bun’ is sometimes replaced by the ‘sleek pony,’ I’m not sure I’m exactly rocking the pony tail. But hey, it’s better than bed head.

We partnered with our friends at Soirée to come up with three quick-and-easy ponytail solutions for crazy mornings. The challenge? They all had to take less than five minutes to do and couldn’t involve any heating tools.

Take a look at what stylist Ashley Godwin came up with! Love. Simple and easy styles that will have you rocking the pony — not just sporting it!

Morning run? She makes it some mornings. Other mornings the snooze button wins.

After tag-teaming lunch prep with her husband and starting a cup of dark roast coffee with cream and two sugars, she gets two bites of cereal in before “MAMMA, can you…” starts. Then it’s a race to get the kiddos ready and out the door.

She'll walk the kids to school, reheat the coffee and head to work at The Girl Next Door or a styling project in her home office. It’s a busy day of marketing work and more until 3:30. Work ends at school pick-up.

Then it's homework, dinner, 5 o’clock catch up calls with her favorite girls, and racing to Core Power Yoga so she can get back before bedtime.

Like lunch making, she and her husband tag-team gym time. When the kids are in bed and he’s hitting the treadmill, she indulges in some quality Bravo television.

There's nothing more entertaining than the Housewives… of (pick your favorite city).

If she's lucky, she's sleeping peacefully by 11:30 PM. And hopefully making her run the next morning!
