Coober Pedy, “opal capital of the world” is probably best known for its unique style of un- derground living. The hinterland, notably the Breakaways and Moon Plain, have featured as backdrops in films including Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome . Rugged mountain ranges, spectacular gorges, sheltered creeks lined with River Red Gums and abundant wildlife are just some of the attractions that make the Flinders Ranges National Park one of South Australia's most popular destinations. This area is world-renowned for its geological history, Aboriginal rock art sites, impressive fossil re- mains and its ruins of early European settlement. Flinders Ranges National Park is located in the Flinders Ranges between the townships of Hawker and Blinman. Its area is 95,000 ha (950 square km). Located 450 km north of Adelaide the park offers a wide range of ac- tivities for all interests including bushwalking, camping, scenic touring, birdwatching and Aboriginal and European cultural experiences.  We travel up to Port Germein where we walk along the Jetty and view the Flinders Ranges pano-rama. Our next stop will be Remarkable View Winery in the Southern Flinders Ranges for a winetasting and lunch.From there we travel through Wilmington before stretching the legs with a 45 minute walk into Alli-gator Gorge.

Overnight accommodation: cabin style at the Port Augusta Shoreline Caravan Park.

Day 2 – Tuesday 12th April 2011

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

We drive up the highway with changing landscapes, comfort stops and photo opportunities atRangeview lookout, Island Lagoon Lookout and if there is enough time – a brief walk on Lake Hartalong the way.Arriving at the opal mining capital of the world, Coober Pedy at around lunchtime we spend the af-ternoon taking an opal mine and town tour to learn the history of the town and its opal. Try yourhand at noodling for opals, visit an opal shop and an underground church.Dinner is pizza from the local pizza bar, which we will take to the Breakaways – a geological won-der, to eat as the sun sets.Most of the town’s people live in underground homes and tonight we do too.

Overnight accommodation: at the Umoona Opal Mine Bunkhouse.

Day 3 – Wednesday 13th April 2011

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

We depart Coober Pedy, stopping to view the Dog Fence – the longest continuous structure in theworld. Cruising the Oodnadatta Track, we take a dip in Coward Springs, stop at the southern part

of Lake Eyre and chat to Talc Alf - an artist and true outback character.A walk to the Blinman Pools is a must or the other trails leading to Wild Dog Gap, Mount Falklandand sections of the Heysen Trail.

Overnight accommodation is dormitory style at Rawnsley Park Station.

Day 4 – Thursday 14th April 2011

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

We stop at Stoke Lookout, before visiting Moolooloo Station for a sheep shearing demonstration.

We travel to Wilpena Pound where we climb Mt. Ohlssen Bagge Trail for fantastic views of thePound and surrounding countryside. An alternative walk is the St Marys Peak Trail, subject to goodweather conditions.Lunch at Quorn with time to explore the township.The afternoon will be spent hiking the magnificent Devils Peak (2.5 hours).

Overnight accommodation is dormitory style at Rawnsley Park Station.

Day 5 – Friday 15th April 2011

Meals included: Breakfast and Lunch

We visit Yourambulla Caves near Hawker to view Adnyamathana Indigenous cave art work, thenon to Kanyaka Historic site for great photo opportunities.

We then proceed to the Clare Valley, where we have a second wine tasting at Sevenhill Cellarsbefore travelling through to Adelaide.

7:00pm - Arrive in Adelaide and drop off at Flinders Uni Registry Steps.

GENERAL INFORMATION

This is a camping style trip and passengers are expected to participate in general camp duties.

Included in the price is all transport, all mentioned meals, accommodation, opal mine tour, sheepshearing demonstration and park entry fees.

Not included in the price is the hire of a sleeping bag (only necessary if you haven’t got yourown). Sleeping bags can be hired for $ 15 per sleeping bag. The hire fee will be collected by theTour Guide on departure from Adelaide.

If you have special dietary needs (e. g. vegetarian) please notify us when booking the trip.

CANCELLATION CONDITIONS AND REFUNDS

As this is a tour with a limited number of places available, please only book if you are sure you canattend.

Fees apply for cancellations received as follows:

• from now – 23 March: full refund minus 5 % service fee• 24 March – 25 March,5pm: 50 % of deposit

There will be NO refunds for cancellations received on 26 March or later, unless you provide amedical certificate on Friday 8 April or on Monday 11 April 2011. In these instances, a 5% servicefee will be retained by ISSU.

PAYMENT

How do I book and pay?

1) Write your name on the sign-up sheet in the International Student Services Unit (ISSU)2) Make your deposit or full payment at the Cashiers Office. As payment reference, please quote

your student ID number and the code FRNP.3) Come back to ISSU and write your receipt number next to your name.4) If you have only paid a deposit please pay the balance at the Cashiers Office. Come back to

ISSU and write your second receipt number next to your name.

What happens if I pay but forget to book, or book but don’t pay?

If more than 20 people book or pay for the trip, priority will be given to people who have followedsteps 1–4 above.People who have paid, but not booked would receive a refund, minus a 5% service fee.

A deposit of $ 100 is required at the time of signing up for the trip. Full balance of payment must be

made no later than 28 March 2011. Flinders University reserves the right to cancel your reserva-tion if full payment is not made by this time.
