In 1967 t.he battalion was Serving inCyprus a8 the Kyrenia I)igtrict Force witha Squadron of the RCDB, a Finnish motor-cycle platoon and a Danish police companywhen the Honorable Leo Cadieux, Xini8t.erof I)efence, visited the battalion andduring a visit to t.he Tjiklo® Ob8ervat.ionPost hinted to me that reorganization wason the way and ve might be affected.

General Victor Allard, the Chief ofDefence Staff , told uB t.hat the Army vaBgoing to be reduced by three battallon8and that there wac a chance for an

ThiB wa8 a dif ferent task from the let.Battalion of our regiment who Simplychanged cap badges and Stayed put inWorkpoint Barracks. A Single exampleof the difficultieB may Suffice. We hadagreed regimentally that all the bestfurniture, Eiilver, oil paintings, etc.would be moved to the let. Batt.alion inEBquimalt, B.C.. Preparat.ions were welluncler way when Calgary Base Headquarters"ordered" me to leave everything in CurrleElarrackB for the new base meB8e8. I con-Bidered the order illegal and ill-advisedand called in a moving company who quietlyShipped the brand-new Sergeant8' Xea8furniture to the lot Battalion inEequizt`alt. I then asked Brigadier-GeneralStan Waters for auchority to move a convoyfrom Calgary to E9quimalt with ourtreasured regiment.al effects. Heauthorized the convoy and an armed guardto accompany it.. Due to the difficultieBwe were having, I advised Base Head-quart.erg of the departure time and thatthe convoy would leave Currie Barracksheaded up by an H113AI APC in cage anyonewas foolish enough to try t.o Stop it.
