Track is Better than Football

Hey you! Yea you, Mr. Freshman athlete! It is time to think about your high school athletic career. Before you and eighty of your closest friends sign up for the freshman football team allow me to tell you about a sport that will keep you off the bench; Track and Field. Cross-country is a track and field event that starts a few weeks after school begins and lasts until mid November. Unlike football, once the whistle blows the clock will not stop, and you can forget about calling a time-out. You don’t have to worry about the coach pulling you out of the game and replacing you with a better athlete, because there are no substitutions. Sitting on the bench is unheard of because the benches are reserved for spectators. You will discover strength from running with the pack. In-door track and field competition begins in January and lasts until February. To shine as a football star you need to be one of the biggest or fastest on the team. Track stars are not huge brutes, but they are strong, fast, and muscular. Football players expect to get bruised and physically abused. Track members rarely collide with an opponent, or experience physical contact. Track is considered a sport not a game. In the game of football players are considered a part of the offense or defense, and they mainly focus on one position. You, or your football coach has to determine your position. As a member of the in-door track team you have many choices. You can choose from shot put, high jump, triple jump, and pole vault. If you are physically capable you can compete in every track event. Running events include as well as five or six running events. The fastest survive. Participation in the Javelin throw and the 4X 100 is limited to the spring outdoor season. The football season begins in the fall and ends in November. If your team makes it to play-offs the season can stretch into December. The track and field season is divided into three time periods. Members of the team participating in all three seasons begin competing in August, and conclude in May. It is a year round, fast pace, extravaganza. Just face it; the track and field team is the best choice for your athletic career. Three seasons give you year round opportunities to compete. Timed events allow you to shine as an individual, and as a member of the team. If these advantages do not convince you to choose track over football, this one should. Track and field is the only high school sport consisting of males and females. No other sport teams consist of males and females.
