A man stopped me in the grocery store recently to thank me for paying his electric bill. It took me a moment to realize he was referring to the Capital Credit Retirement bill credit that most CoServ Members saw on their January statement. “You’re very welcome,” I said. “Your money

helps make everything we do at CoServ possible.” I had a

longer conversation with a Member who was upset about a recent tree-trimming job in his neighborhood. “What can we do?” I asked. “Can you glue the limbs back on?” We had a good laugh but decided to skip the glue and, instead, plant a new tree for him. Both conversations were good reminders of the tangible benefits of being a CoServ Member—Capital Credits and access to your Board of Directors. Need to reach me? You can do so at [email protected].

At the January 2016 Board Meeting, I had the privilege of presenting my friend and CoServ Board colleague Bill Ragsdale with a special certificate from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) that recognized his successful completion of the Director Gold Program. Continuing education and discussion of the latest industry trends are a big part of being a CoServ Board Member.

Volume 2, Issue 1 February 2016

2016 shaping up to be another yearof growth for CoServWith 170,547 Members and 98,000 Gas Customers, 2016 is shaping up to be another big year for residential and commercial growth in CoServ’s service territory.

In January, CoServ installed 1,325 gas and electric meters—a figure reflective of the ongoing construction throughout North Texas. According to U.S. Census Bureau projections, Collin and Denton counties in the next five years will experience 21 percent and 19.5 percent growth, respectively.

As North Texas residential and commercial growth increases, so do CoServ’s planning efforts to provide reliable power to areas with growing energy needs. This careful planning enables us to keep electricity rates stable and affordable—in fact, we haven’t raised rates in 15 years.

Since September 2013, at the Board of Directors’ direction, CoServ has informed Members and Customers about several high-growth areas in our service territory that require new substations and transmission infrastructure. The #CoServ2020 initiative is designed to keep Members informed about projects that could be planned in their area over the next few years. Click on the ENERGY SOLUTIONS tab on CoServ.com for an overview of the high-growth areas, a detailed look at current and upcoming projects, and an explanation of the PUC process for new transmission facilities.

The CoServ Electric Board of Directors is elected at-large by CoServ Members and serves three-year terms. For more about the voting process, please click the ABOUT tab on CoServ.com.
