NEW JERSEY
DELEGATES AT LARGE
Honorable Clifford P. Case Dear Cliff:
202/224-3224 Russell Senate Office Building Washington, D.C.
Hr.
United States Senator since 1954 Chairman of the Delegation Former member of Congress; Lawyer Senator Case has said that he doesn't feel the time is right for the New Jersey delegation to meet and publically announce its commitment to the President. This is causing real problems because several of the delegates do not want to offend the Senator, yet, there is movement in the delegation until we can get them officially committed. At one porrr it was felt that a 67 to 0 vote was very possible. Although we still feel that the President will get at least 60 votes, all are uneasy until there is a formal delegation meeting which Senator Case has been unwilling to call. It should be remembered that New Jersey has historically been difficult and in the past the Senator has had his delegation "stolen" from him.
