NEW JERSEY

DELEGATES AT LARGE

Honorable Clifford P. Case Dear Cliff:

202/224-3224 Russell Senate Office Building Washington, D.C.

Hr.

United States Senator since 1954 Chairman of the Delegation Former member of Congress; Lawyer Senator Case has said that he doesn't feel the time is right for the New Jersey delegation to meet and publically announce its commitment to the President. This is causing real problems because several of the delegates do not want to offend the Senator, yet, there is movement in the delegation until we can get them officially committed. At one porrr it was felt that a 67 to 0 vote was very possible. Although we still feel that the President will get at least 60 votes, all are uneasy until there is a formal delegation meeting which Senator Case has been unwilling to call. It should be remembered that New Jersey has historically been difficult and in the past the Senator has had his delegation "stolen" from him.

Jersey City, New Jersey

Mr.

Deeply religous person who has spoken to the President and told him that he is praying he can vote for him. He is a lawyer and we are carrying him as leaning toward the President. Senator Case should be helpful to us with this entire delegation.

Joseph A. Plonski Dear Joe: 201/653-3100 2600 Kennedy Boulevard

Jersey City, New Jersey 07306

Mrs.

Real estate broker who is very conservative and believed to be leaning toward Reagan although Senator Case feels that he will vote for the President.

Evelyn Holender 24 College Drive

Dear Evelyn: 201/432-9310

Jersey City, New Jersey 07305

Mr.

Active party worker who will be guided by the rest of her delegation and the county chairman whom Rog Morton called and who said that they expected to follow Senator Case's leadership.

Peter D. Morgan

Will not attend the White House reception or the convention; recovering from a massive heart attack.

The alternates will follow the organization's leadership and only one has asked specific questions which the President should be briefed on:

Mr. Joseph Yglesias Dear Joe: ALTERNATE DELEGATE 22 East 42st Street Bayonne, New Jersey 07002

201/823-4452 (or) 609/296-8635

Is concerned with two issues: the possibility of the Navy Base in Bayonne being closed, and the question of CETA funds for the area. Mr. Yglesias is holding a raffle to earn his travel and expenses for the convention.

FIFTEENTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Mr. Andre W.M.Gruber 13 Norton Road Monmouth Junction,

Dear Andre: 201/249-2141

New Jersey 08852

Middlesex County Republican Chairman who is a very strong conservative and also deeply devout. He is truly uncommitted and told the President that in a telephone conversation. He is an attorney who puts his county first so that he can be persuaded to vote for the President based on the damage Reagan would do to his ticket.

Mrs. Eudora A. Pike Dear Eudora: 201/463-1433 5323 Foster Street

Placataway, New Jersey 08854

Mr.

Will be strongly influenced by Gruber because she is his county vice chairman. She also has a crush on movie idol, Ronald Reagan, if not Presidential candidate Reagan. Listed as uncommitted but could be troublesome unless Gruber exerts pressure, once he swings to the President.

Donald Katz Dear Don: 201/826-6078 97 State Street

Perth Amboy, New Jersey 08861

Very conservative former Young Republican who is not very well known in the state or his area but was put on the slate by Gruber. He is listed as uncommitted but if we get Gruber we should get Katz.

H';: onorable S. Elliott Mayo 31 Rayle Court Metuchen, New Jersey 08840

Dear Elliott: 201/548-2989

548-7193

Member of the Middlesex County Board of Freeholders from 1972 to 1976, he is an engineer who is solid for the President.
