Legal Eagle Wing build

1 Keep in page number sequence

This is an early Legal Eagle

) Do lightening holes according to your plans… Clean up glue runs on

ribs, spars and bridgework (it can add up to a pound or two)…

) Fit in diagonal braces while the wing can still be racked to get them

into the bays…

) Diagonal in fuel tank bay should be dropped down to face of spar caps

and then gusseted in place with 1/8” plywood plates on the Legal

Eagle…

) Fittings should be polished (no dings or scratches), painted and

bedded in epoxy glue…

) Preventing dimples from appearing in the leading edge plywood skins

is part science and careful preparation before the skin is glued in place

(blowing a balloon up in there after the dimple has appeared does not

stay fixed!)… Keeping the plywood rolled up for several months is good

(see pic’s following), Leonard’s method of using a headless nail to

locate the skin is good… This may not be enough to avoid the dimples…

Additionally, some have put as many as 2 foam ribs spaced between

the plywood ribs… Plus, some have soaked the previously fitted panels

in hot water - mounted on the headless nails with only rubber bands

holding the panels in place… Then waiting several days for the panels

and ribs to dry thoroughly – the panels are masked with tape on the

glue lines, sanded and varnished in the fields prior to final mounting…

)Service note: Be sure to notch the bottom corner of all leading edge

ribs to allow any water to drain out to a hole at the wing root rib…
