• Technology Advancements – Paradigm Shift– Traditional Lighting being replace with LED Lighting– Transition from Analog to Digital Technology– Core & Coil Ballast to Circuit Board Driver– Digital power supplies opened doors to other digital

technology• Wireless • Geo location• Metering• Temperature measurement• Various digital protocols and signals• More similar to a cell phone that an electrical device

• To add “Controls” you need to run low voltage wires in plenum to lighting fixtures.

• Due to the advent of LED drivers (power supply) are digital. This facilitated wireless technology to be implemented in LED luminaires.

• Two methods to implement wireless luminaires – Wireless Relay Node

– Wireless Sensor

• Wireless Relay Node– Relay Node antenna sends wireless signal.– Signal does NOT penetrate metal

• Therefore node must be installed outside fixture– Signal does penetrate ceiling tile– Installs on back or end cap knock out of LED fixture – In existing facilities you would need to access plenum

– If you want to stay away from accessing plenum– This solution is not for you.

• Wireless Sensor– Sensor installs on fixture housing facing room.– Wireless signal is not impeded.– Sensor installs at factory, only power connection need.– Sensor added feature for fixture level data collection.– Existing troffer retrofit kits install without having to

access to plenum ideal for existing facilities

• Replacement of Fluorescent Fixture will be difficult• Various retrofit kit are available to facilitate conversion from

Fluorescent to LED technology

• 5 easy steps to replace existing Fluorescent Fixture with LED

• Sensor & Controls “Beyond Office Applications”.• Sensors are now available wirelessly for:

• High Bays

• Harsh Environments

• Outdoor Applications

• Wireless Network Q & A– Q: Is there a way to grow into a Digital Wireless

Network in stages.– A: The answer is yes!– Q: Do all systems allow for gradual growth– A: No some systems require a “Gateway Network”.

• Minimize field time installations of Controls & Sensors.• Opt for factory installed. • Fixture will cost more initially, but installation labor cost is reduced

dramatically over all cost is lower.• Factory personal are experts at installing due to volume• Product is pre-tested to function before shipped.• Field installer may be new to sensor wiring which will impact

installation time. Higher potential rate for error adding to trouble shooting time.

• Having sensors installed at factory is covered by Warranty.

• Require that LED drivers to have 12v auxiliary ports to power LED fixture Senor. This reduces cost of adding power controller a $25 to $30 adder per fixture. (Some special exceptions apply such as high voltage of 480v or emergency battery back up)

Been their done that! Boxes label with location 30” Width Boxes Fits Through Doors Fits Through Elevators Can be carried up steps Less time to unpack fixtures Less boxes to recycle Use boxes to remove debris

• Origin of the “Change Order”!• Select a company that has experience professional

pool of “Facility Auditors” .• Avoid the hand off , things get lost in the process.
