CONTROLLING YOUR FACULTY PROFILE PAGE
Update Your Profile1. Go to http://cms.ubc.ca/
2. Sign-in with your CWL information
Your Dashboard
To edit your profile, press “edit”
Composing & Editing in WordPressText formatting must be done through WordPress
Let’s have a look at the various profile field sections available to edit…Note: Each field section includes the same formatting options.
By default, the visual text editor formatting toolbar is collapsed. Expand the formatting options by selecting the “Toolbar Toggle”.
Stay on the visual editor tab!

Adjust image (centre, crop, zoom, etc.)
Select “Crop Image” button to
save adjustments.
Saving Your Edits
WordPress will not save any of your updates or revisions unless you select the “Update” button that is located near the top right-hand section of the web page.
Unfortunately, this is not named “Save”... but Update will save and update all your changes to your web profile page immediately.
You also have the option to “Preview Changes”, but remember to select Update before you log out if you like the changes made, or else none of your content edits will be made.

Analytics from our web traffic show that very few site visitors are scrolling down on these profile pages to view ALL of its content.
Website user experience research told us that site visitors viewing faculty profiles are interested primarily in the following highlights:
research areas / interests contact information courses taught additional research / lab website links / social media
You already have a CV…What if the CV was uploaded as a PDF and offer it as a downloadable or PDF web-readable option?
Web page profiles are like a business card. It should look polished and professional, while still user-friendly!

Certainly, text-heavy web pages can seem impressive when scrolling endlessly through years and years of publications…
But, is it user-friendly?
Is the user visiting the profile page intending to read the full CV?
What is the user’s experience when landing on such an immense web page?
How does it make the user feel?
A solution for those that want to see and do more...

I met with Dan to go over basic functions and best practices when managing a website.
Within a week, he was able to take the simple tools that I laid out for him and create a wonderful website! I am very proud of how far this site has come, in such a short amount of time!

Pat wanted to migrate her very old FoE website to the WordPress Content Management System (CMS).
In order for her to update the old website, Pat would require advanced HTML coding experience, as well as know how to use software applications -such as Dreamweaver. With a CMS like WordPress, it makes it easy for everyone to have a weBlog or a website!
