6 CONTROL VALVE IPF FUNCTION TEST

6.1 PREPARATION FOR ALL JOBS

Once the SAP-PM work order is obtained, ensure that the loop diagram and PEFS are together with the PTW before starting the work. The stroke time of the Control Valve is not critical as it depends on the position of the Control Valve prior to activation. Hence the purpose here is to ensure that the solenoid is triggered and the Control Valve closes when triggered by the IPF loop.

Locate the Control Valve in the field, check the tag number against the tag number on the permit.

As per SAP order if the Control Valve that has to be tested has operator task to be followed, ensure that the panel operator has identified and taken the necessary precaution before proceeding.

Force shall be part of this working instruction.

6.2 FIELD PROOF TEST

Check all associated components such as solenoid valves, proximity sensor/switch, air regulator are in good working condition.

Ensure all required insulation if available is in good condition. Force the SOV output signal from IPS. If there are issues with the components, ensure that the problems are resolved before

pursuing with the test. Inform the relevant panel operator in the MCR of intent to commence test. Request panel operator MCR to inform valve status and confirm consistency with field. Request technician at IPS panel to initiate trip command for the valve. Watch the valve and as soon as it comes to the fail-safe closed position, request status

indication from MCR and IPS panel to confirm consistency with field. To open the valve automatically request MCR to RESET trip. Watch the valve as it opens and request status indication from MCR and IPS panel to

confirm consistency with field. Re-confirm the correct valve position with MCR panelman before removing the force. Remove the force from IPS. Inform both MCR and IPS panel of completion of tests.

6.3 CERTIFICATION

A label indicating the date of service for IPF proof test and the name of contractor/ technician, should be affixed on the on the actuator of the Control valve.

6.4 CLOSING THE JOB

If required reset the open loop signal status in the IPS/FGS system. Inform the panel operator that the job is completed. Get the panel operator to normalise as required in the operator task. Log in work permit as required by the procedure. Go into SAP to record history against the functional location with the test data. Close the work request in SAP.
