The proposal came from aviation company KP Aviation Private Limited. According to the plan, the heliport hub will consist of a permanent helipad and an opera- tion control room. At least one helicopter will always be sta- tioned at the facility, which can be used for evacuation or send- ing relief to disaster-hit sites. The chopper can also be used as an air ambulance for providing medical assistance to the victims and transporting them to nearest hospitals. Besides, the helicopter can also be used for police patrol- ling in case of an emergency and ferrying media persons to ensure that people get real-time information about a tragedy. Gurgaon deputy commission- er Shekhar Vidyarthi on Monday held a meeting to discuss the pro- posal. He also asked the Huda and MCG officials to identify a suitable place for setting up a heliport hub in Gurgaon. Vidyarthi said that the proposal seems useful for Gurgaon, keep- ing in view the geographical loca- tion and the number of high-rises. He said that a helicopter will be more useful in evacuating people in case of any disaster like earthquake or fire in high- rises. Gurgaon lies in the high seismic zone and it has hundreds of skyscrapers. Sanjay Singh, chief operat- ing officer of KP Aviation, said that the helipad hub can be set up along the NH-8 and the KMP Expressway. He said that the facility will be the first-of- its-kind in the country. It will be developed as a model so that other states can also take up the project later. “For disaster management, air ambulance, police patrolling and media coverage of a disaster, the services of helicopter will be provided free-of-cost,” said Singh, a retired army officer who was awarded Vishishth Sewa medal for evacuating people during floods in Bihar in 2008. Singh said that helicopter was used in evacuating victims and providing them medical assist- ance during Uttarakhand floods last year. Only a 30X30-metre space for the helipad and two rooms of 20X20 sqft each for operation control room were required for this hub at that time. Hero’s Gurgaon plant workers go on strike against ‘sacking’ of staff Siddhartha Rai and Manoj Kumar [email protected] GURGAON: Hundreds of workers of the spare parts packaging unit of the Hero Motocorp’s Gurgaon plant went on strike on Monday. The strike was triggered by the alleged sacking of 500-odd workers of the unit, which has been shifted to Neemrana, Rajasthan. One of the agita- tors said that the company had sacked these workers after giv- ing them just three to six months salary as compensation. Senior HR official of Hero Motocorp Vijay Sharma said that he did not know about any strike and that he was home and could not comment on the matter. The workers have been sitting inside the factory since 2.30 am on Monday. “There is no provi- sion for water or food as the com- pany has shut the unit. The A and B shift workers are sitting on strike. I am young but what about those who have been here for 15 years. Where will they get a job?” said a worker of the C shift, who was denied entry. According to workers, of the 500 sacked, 365 had been work- ing with the company for more than five years while the rest had joined in or after 2010. A number of police personnel have been deployed at the site to tackle any untoward incident. The same group of workers had struck work a week ago when they said they were given time till August 11 to reach a settlement. The proposed pedestrian bridges will come up on the build-operate-transfer mode. Each facility is estimated to cost `2 crore to `3 crore. At least seven bridges will come up in newly developed localities, while the rests are pro- posed in the old Gurgaon areas. The FOBs will come up on the build-operate-transfer (BOT) mode. Each facility is estimated to cost `2 crore to `3 crore and they will be constructed in two phases. In the first phase, FOBs will come up at Sikanderpur bypass, Gallleria market, Faridabad road near DLF-1 market, Huda City Centre, Huda gymkhana club near Appu Ghar, Atul Kataria Chowk, Sector-17 and old Delhi Road near Maruti’s office. In the second phase, pedestri- an facilities will be constructed at Subhash Chowk, Badshahpur, Spaze IT park, Mahavir Chowk, Civil Hospital and old Delhi road near Judicial complex. According to officials, Gawat has been allotted tenders to con- struct FOBs in the first phase, while the second phase of the project will be carried out by RV Aakashganga Infrastructures. “The companies will also be tasked with the maintenance of the facilities for the next 10 years. However, they will be given the rights of advertise- ment for the same period to earn revenue,” said Praveen Kumar, MCG commissioner. For advertising rights, the firm involved in the first phase of con- struction will have to pay the civic body `2.16 crore every year. The annual fee for the com- pany assigned to carry out the project in the second phase has been fixed at `1.03 crore with a provision of 10% hike annually. The civic body has also asked the construction firms to install elevators, ramps escalators and stairs to ensure pedestrians’ safety. “We have finalised the FOBs in such a manner that they are used not just by pedestrians, but also by cyclists and two-wheeler riders to cross roads,” Kumar added. Builder sends notices to residents of sectors 22A, 22B over use of park Dhananjay Jha [email protected] GURGAON: Anticipating opposi- tion from residents, a private builder, who is using a park in Sector 22 for storing construc- tion material, has sent legal notices to the sectors 22A and 22B RWAs. Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has leased out the two-acre park, part of the area’s greenbelt, to Ambience Projects and Infrastructure Private Limited for two years. The builder has constructed high boundary walls for storing the construction material. Early this month, the resi- dents had threatened to move a local court against the mis- use of the park, located off Old Delhi Road. In its three-page legal notice, the builder mentions that the residents have been trying to move the court to seek stay despite the park being allot- ted according to government procedure. “We have apprehensions that the residents will attempt to obtain an exparte against my client (Ambience Projects and Infrastructure Private Limited) by presenting incorrect and mutilated facts in the court. We have taken safety step in advance so that my client gets a chance to present his point of view in case such a situation arises,” said Pankaj Bhatnagar, senior advocate on behalf of Ambience. “We will send a counter notice to the builder. We will consult our lawyer in this regard and file our reply in a day or two,” said Bhim Singh Yadav, president of the Sector 22-B residents’ welfare associa- tion. “We decided to buy plots here from Huda for its greenery, beauty, peace and tranquillity. But the park has been ruined and given to the builder for per- sonal use. Tomorrow, the gov- ernment can also allot Devi Lal Park, Children’s Park and other spaces meant for public use. We have every right to oppose the move,” said Sushila Yadav, president of Sector 22-A RWA. As per an internal circular of the civic body, the corpora- tion has hired a private consult- ant for carrying out the audit for the current energy scenario and for research on the latest technology for energy saving schemes. The project will be imple- mented in two phases from August to December 2014 and from December to June 2015 next year. “The first phase involves extensive research on the lat- est technology, liaisons with the ministry of energy, solar experts and NGOs; as well as formulating the solar policy,” said an official. At the initial level, the MCG will incorporate streetlights into the solar energy project. “The aim behind the first phase is to provide assistance in identifying energy cost opti- mization, pollution control and improvements in health and safety aspects and improve- ments in operations main- tenance systems,” Praveen Kumar, MCG commissioner said. The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission had also drafted a notification for the ‘Net metering regula- tion for rooftop solar panels’ as per which the state power department had proposed to buy excessive solar-generated- power left from the residents at the same price the department sells to its consumers. However, the power department will not pay or subsidise the cost of set- ting up the solar power system. The second phase will focus on implementation of key solar projects and installation of rooftop solar plants. “The MCG will conduct feasibility studies on the pilot project and if found fit, it will be drafted for mass usage,” said Kumar.
