After extensive ergonomic study and analysis,PMC designed and manufactured the PacifiCat

PacifiCat Engineer's Console with three

PMC IMACS (Integrated Machinery, Alarm and

PMC performed ergonomic studies with BCFC andequipment suppliers for the integrated bridge. Afterextensive analysis, PMC designed and manufactured theNavigation, Engineer's, Wing and Deck Head consoles.Due to weight considerations these consoles wereconstructed using aluminum.

All critical machinery functions on this vessel arecontinuously monitored and displayed by the PMCIntegrated Machinery, Alarm and Control System(IMACS). This graphical user interface allows the crewto monitor and control the machinery. It also performstrending and health monitoring from three IMACSworkstations, ergonomically integrated into theEngineer's console. A total of 175 graphic pages and 50pop-up windows allow the crew to easily identify andmonitor the 3000 machinery status points. The systemautomatically logs all machinery alarms to a disk archivefor future reference.

Intuitive graphics page construction using dedicatedday/night viewable color screens greatly simplifies theengineer-machinery interface.

The powerful, easy to use, IMACS workstations areindependently networked to six Omni Chief datacollectors, one remote bridge collector, one Omni ChiefHVAC control system, and four Omni Chiefcommunication processors. For maximum reliability, amonitored redundant high speed communicationnetwork is used.

Each Omni Chief data collector consists of adedicated 96 point display showing the status of theoptically isolated analog and digital field sensors. Allalarm configuration, setpoints, time delays, etc. can besetup from the Omni Chief, as well as from the ship'scomputers.

BC Ferry Corp. has one of the world's largest ferryfleets with 41 vessels serving 23 million passengers andmore than eight million vehicles annually over 26 routes.

The PacifiCat Series 1000 aluminum catamaran isone of the world's largest and most efficient high speedferries. It can carry 250 vehicles and 1,000 passengers ata service speed of 37 knots. Propulsion is by four MTU20V-1163 high-powered diesel engines, each driving aKaMeWa 112 steerable waterjet.

MCH-E control headsprovide remote controlfor the bow thrusterfrom the NavigationConsole and each WingConsole.

Each Omni Chief communication processorprovides isolated independent network links for directcommunication with the processors of other automationsystems. Custom communications protocols werewritten by PMC to allow efficient data transfer with thefollowing systems:

Main engines (redundant links with auto-changeover)

Power management and switchboard

Motor control centers

Fire detection

Fire suppression

Additional groups of controlled and monitoredsystem information consist of tanks, pumps, bilges, firedoors, RO-RO ramps, fans, vents and system self-diagnostics.

PMC supplied the bow thruster control systemincluding the MCH-E control heads mounted in thebridge consoles, as well as the throttle and gearboxactuators located in the machinery space.

A PMC in-dock security system provides two waycommunication between the Bridge and thepassenger/vehicle loading ramps. A PMC Type 8012Navigation Light Control Panel is used for monitoringthe in-dock security beacons.

PMC provided a Type 8012 navigation light controlpanel to control and monitor the navigation lights. Thissolid state electronic panel continuously monitors thestatus of the remote navigation lights and wiring whetherthe lights are on or off. W

alarm sounds and transfer to the back up lamp isautomatic. Dual power sources are monitored andalarmed. Transfer is automatic when either fails.

The versatile PCH propulsion control head maybe fitted with electric, pneumatic or mechanicalcontrols, and may also be configured with electricshaft and telegraph functions. It is available insingle or dual lever models.

The VoyCon is a voyage fuel managementsystem designed to reduce fuel consumption. Basedon PMC's 30 years experience in the field of marineautomation and integration, the VoyCon design wasoptimized to meet the most stringent requirementsdemanded by marine applications.

The Azimuth Control Head provides accuratepropulsion control of power and rotation for 360°thrusters.

The azimuth control head can also beconfigured for applications that require limitedrotation, such as propulsion power combined withwater jet or rudder control.

The D-MaC is designed to accommodate a widerange of propulsion control requirements from thesimple to the sophisticated. It is equally suitable forsingle or multi engine installations as well asarrangements with PTO devices such as generatorsand fire pumps.

The D-MaC is a powerful, easy-to-use micro-processor based system. For maximum reliability itutilizes a touch screen display panel with non-volatile memory and no hard drives.
