The underlying premise within a clinical approach is not to look at the deficits, what students cannot do, but to know them so well that you know exactly what they need to learn next to achieve and succeed. It is a developmental approach and very personalized. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

I am currently doing my Masters of Clinical Teaching through Melbourne University. I’m finding that the learning is invaluable, not only for my own professional growth, but for what it can do for our school. Over the two years, I will be sharing and collaborating with the staff and looking to implement best practice that has come from the course. The underlying premise within a clinical approach is not to look at the deficits, what students cannot do, but to know them so well that you know exactly what they need to learn next to achieve and succeed. It is a developmental approach and very personalized. This is a mindset that can be applied to our own lives; it’s important not to focus on what you can’t do but what you need or want to know and

how you can set about getting it. We all need something to aim for and to have a sense of purpose in our lives– this is what contributes to our self esteem and feelings of self-worth. I hope that we can give your children, our students, this sense of purpose and motivation towards their learning and a growth mindset that will stay with them long after they have left school. We want to encourage a growth mindset, not a fixed mind-set. A growth mindset can enhance our children’s resili-ence, confidence, collaboration, and critical and creative thinking. If you are interested in finding out more, look up Carol Dweck and the large amount of evidence based re-search she has compiled about the power of having a growth mindset.

WORKING BEE Just a reminder that the working bee is on from 4pm—7pm and then we will have a BBQ after this (we’ll test out the new barbe-cue purchased by P & F). I hope you can make it—we really ap-preciate your support in helping to make our school environment safe and attractive. Some of the jobs to be done:

Level and set up the vegie garden

Sand and varnish the outdoor picnic tables

Remove art work from outside learning space/possibly line it

Fix the trike and walking machine

Remove excess furniture from parish hall and rearrange equip-ment in sheds

Redo garden edging

Weed and mulch the fruit trees

Make up flat packs (two bookshelves) for our science re-sources

General weeding and gardening

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY We are gradually sorting out the computer room and be-ginning to set it up as a multi-media and resource space. Throughout the year we will make changes so that it be-comes a more collaborative learning space, one that sup-ports our students creativity and problem solving skills through a focus on science and technology. I had a lesson in using the video conferencing unit the oth-er day—it was very impressive and is a great addition to our learning space. We are also trying to build up our store of construction kits for students to access. If anyone has any Lego or Meccano they no longer want, we would love to have it to support our technology programs.

LENT At the beginning of Lent, Father Darren reminded us that it is a time when we have responsibilities; he did this in a very novel way through connecting actions to each of the responsibili-ties (prayer, fasting and almsgiving). How are you going with your Lenten journey? I saw a slogan that resonated with me. It said ’Lent isn’t just about giving

up, it’s about giving more.’ ‘Giving more’ doesn't mean giv-ing money—it means giving more of yourself, your time, your energy, your compassion, your kindness. We are en-couraged to think of others, to help someone out and do those random acts of kindness.

SRC NEWS SRC had their first meeting on Tuesday. Their first job is one set by P & F. P & F would like to know what sports and play equipment the students would like to have at play-times. Jack and Keiffer will be sur-veying the whole school to find out what the students’ wish list is. The St Patrick’s Day fund-raiser is also their first social justice event. Throughout the year the SRC will be responsible for organising fundrais-ing events to support those in our world who need a bit of a helping hand.

LUNCH ORDER DAY Everyone should have received a lunch order form today for the P & F lunch order day next Friday. The departure of Liv and Mel left a big hole but Luke and Adrian have risen to the challenge and volunteered to run the first lunch or-der day. I like how there is gender equity in this as well—great role modelling from our dads.
