    Under NZS3910 What does a Engineer do?

    Acts on behalf of (and is paid by) the Principal. but must act impartially.

    Acts as independent expert to the works.

    Deals, formally, only with the Principal and the Contractor.

    Ensures the building is built as intended.

    Deals with problems, disputes etc in accordance with contract rules.

    Issues formal directions as required.

    Communicates Principals instructions to the Contractor e.g. colour scheme.

    Certifies progress payment schedules.

    Certifies extension of time claims.

    Advises of nominated sub-contractors.

    Issues Practical Completion Certificate.

    Certifies end of Defects Liability Period.

    Engineers representative. Anyone with sufficient expertise to deputize

    for the Engineer. Not permitted to certify payment schedules.

    Must be notified to the Contractor.

    know NZ3910 and the Special Conditions of Contract very thoroughly. (Assuming the contract is based on NZS3910)

    What does a Contract Administrator do?

    Maintains a record of all documents relevant to the project.

    Makes decisions on issues of time and money as the work proceeds.

    Attends regular site meetings (may chair). Recording all decisions.

    Ensures all preliminary documentation e.g. insurance, consents etc are correct before commencement.

    Evaluates monthly progress claims/schedules.

    Evaluates cost of variations and fluctuations where applicable.

    Evaluates cost of extension of time claims.

    Administers Provisional allowances.

    Administers Prime Cost Sums.

    Determines any liquidated damages.

    Evaluates Final Account.
