Accounting and Finance BA (Hons) (years 3 and 4) SCQF Level 9/10The BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance is a specialised degree which provides underpinning knowledge and technical skills highly sought after by employers. It provides a solid foundation for a career in the accounting and finance industry.

Students will develop contextual, theoretical and practical skills within the accounting and finance subject areas. A highly practical course encompassing technical skills desired by employers. Small classes give you a more personal experience of university. You will be able to apply for exemptions from various professional bodies such as ACCA, CIMA and AAT.

Business and Management BA (Hons) (years 3 and 4) SCQF Level 9/10This degree is a high quality, broad-based business and management qualification that will introduce you to all aspects of today’s modern business.

A key element is the project work where you investigate real life situations, enabling you to put what you’ve learned into practice.

Course ContentThis course will offer both academic insights into the world of work and current theories about Business and Management, while encouraging the emphasis on enhanced employability skills equipping the successful student with tangible, practical skills-based advantages which they can immediately apply at work and elsewhere. Throughout the programme, students will develop knowledge and understanding of business and management related disciplines, and the competencies needed to operate effectively in a globalized, ever expanding and complex field.

You will gain Associate Membership of the Chartered Management Institute on completion of your award and two years’ work experience

PDA Office AdministrationSCQF Level 7This award is aimed at those working in an office administration role and aims to further develop knowledge and experience gained from the workplace. You can go on to complete other PDAs and work towards HNC Administration and Information Technology.

Course ContentYou will develop technical and administrative knowledge relevant to current administrative practice.

You will also develop personal effectiveness, customer care skills, communication and presentation techniques and interpersonal skills all relevant to an administrative role. This course will also allow you to develop an awareness of issues such as current legal and regulatory requirements relating to an administration environment.

Units include:

• Personal Development Planning

PDA Office Management and Information TechnologySCQF Level 7Build on the knowledge and skills you get from the HNC Administration and Information Technology and go on to get a formal award while doing only the core units you want from the HND.

Course ContentIf you are already in a working environment but don’t want to commit yourself to long-term, part time study, you can study this course over a year or less.

The PDA aims to provide a continuous professional development route to take your management and IT skills to a more senior or professional level and provide you with more in-depth technical skills and knowledge.

Six mandatory units with 64 SCQF credit points:

• IT in Business – Advanced Word Processing

• IT in Business – Advanced Spreadsheets

• IT in Business – Advanced Databases

• Office Management

• Information and Communication Technology in Business.

• Developing the Individual Within a Team

Entry RequirementsEntry to the award is at the discretion of the centre.

In general, entry will be open to candidates who can demonstrate, either by formal qualification (normally 2 Scottish Highers at grade C or above or a group of relevant NQ Modules including Communication Intermediate 2 or HNC in Administration or Business) or experience, a reasonable expectation of completing the course. You may be required to attend an interview.

DurationPart time: 1 year.

Professional Development Awards (PDAs) are principally designed for those already in a career or vocation who wish to extend or broaden their skills base. They are studied at Higher Education (HE) level and can contribute to HNC/HND qualifications. The duration of study is normally 1 PDA unit delivered over one semester in weekly 2 hour blocks. All PDAs should be completed within 1 a cademic year (36 weeks). However, our PDAs may be delivered flexibly to suit employee and employer requirements.

PDA Management AccountingSCQF Level 7If you’re seeking to enter the world of management accounting or advance your current accounting position, this professional development award in Management Accounting will give you the skills and confidence you need. You will study cost accounting and management accounting using standard accounting software packages.

Course ContentYou will achieve a nationally-recognised award relevant to the workplace and you can progress to HND and degree level study. You will study part time, which means you can fit your studies around your personal and professional commitments.

Two mandatory units with 32 SCQF credit points:

PDA Book-keepingSCQF Level 7This award delivers the essential skills and knowledge for a career in book-keeping or working in an accounting or financial administration role. They are quick and cost effective to deliver, so are ideal for developing the skills of young people, graduates, and other adult learners. It is ideal for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) so employers can enhance the skills of their employees.

Course ContentThis course will allow you to develop technical and administrative knowledge relevant to book-keeping and financial accounting practice.

You will develop manual book-keeping skills and skills using commercially produced financial accounting software to record accounting transactions, prepare accounting reports and process the payroll. You will also develop skills in basic payroll procedures using manual and computerised systems. This course will prepare candidates for employment in a book-keeping or financial administration role.

Students can study Highers at Moray College UHI as stand alone subjects. Some can also be studied in the evening making them perfect if you choose to study specific subjects whilst in employment and looking for opportunities to upskill.

Higher Business ManagementThis course is aimed at those who are interested in pursuing a career in business. Higher Business Management will provide a good grounding of the key business areas.

The course is made up of 3 units plus an exam:• Management of Marketing and Operations (Higher)• Management of People and Finance (Higher)• Understanding Business (Higher)

Higher EnglishHigher English develops students’ language abilities through the study of great literary works from various cultures.

The students will gain extensive skills in understanding, evaluation, comparison and analysis.

Higher MathsHigher Maths develops students’ mathematical rigour and the ability to use precise and concise mathematical language assumes a particular importance at this stage.

Students who complete a Higher Mathematics course successfully are expected to have a competence and a confidence in applying mathematical techniques, manipulating symbolic expressions and communicating with mathematical correctness in the solution of problems.

First AidAll First Aid courses meet the requirements of the Health and Safety at work (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and quality assured by the First Aid Industry Body www.faib.co.uk. Open courses are run very frequently throughout the year with additional dates on request. All courses can be delivered in College premises in Elgin or, conveniently, on your own site.

First Aid at Work (18 hours) This covers all aspects of First Aid to gain certification which is valid for 3 years and meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. In line with HSE guidelines, it is strongly recommended that holders attend the Resuscitations Skills Update annually.

First Aid at Work Requalification (12 hours) This course is open to those holding a current First Aid at Work Certificate. It is designed for those who wish to update their first aid skills and renew their certification for a further 3 years and meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

The course provides a practical update on all aspects of first aid covered in the First Aid at Work Certificate course. In line with HSE guidelines, it is strongly recommended that holders attend the Resuscitation Skills Update annually.

Childcare First Aid (6 hours) This course is designed to meet the needs of parents and childcare workers and covers First Aid skills relevant to young people.

Emergency First Aid at Work (6 hours)This course is designed to meet the requirements of employers in lower risk environments and covers resuscitation, shock, bandaging and medical emergencies. The course meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Resuscitation Skills (3 hours)This course is designed as an annual skills update for those holding a current First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate. Additionally, it provides an introduction to first aid for those with no formal qualifications.

Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Users (3 hours)This course is designed to provide an introduction to the use of a defibrillator (AED) and resuscitation in the work place in accordance with the latest UK Resuscitation Council Guidelines.

Your Apprentice The Modern Apprenticeship initiative offers young people the chance to work towards an Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) at Level 2 and 3 with further opportunities for higher level study with the introduction of graduate apprenticeships. Scottish vocational qualifications were developed in consultation with industry and are designed to create a high-calibre workforce.Moray College UHI operates a highly successful MA programme in partnership with SDS, we offer a range of frameworks across many sectors. We can support you from the outset, providing information about the programme, advice on how best to advertise for an apprentice and help you to advertise your vacancy across our networks.Once you have recruited your apprentice, we will work with you to develop the MA training plan in consultation with the apprentice developed around your business needs. Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship, which can be anything from 12 months to four (depending on the framework), we will support you and your apprentices throughout the whole process.

Who is eligible?All 16-19 year olds are eligible provided they are in employment. SCQF Level 5This Modern Apprenticeship initiative offers people the chance to work towards SVQ in Business and Administration SCQF Level 5 whilst in paid employment.
