Your challenging cases wanted! The Office of Continuing Professional Development requests submissions of real cases for potential review by Dr. Sibbald during each day. There are two options for submitting your cases:

1. Submit photos and/or video clips of difficult-to-manage wounds, concealing the patient’s identity.

2. Submit a short description (4–5 sentences) describing the wound history of a patient who would be a willing volunteer to attend the event and receive an examination and consult with Dr. Sibbald (attended by program registrants).

Descriptions may be faxed to the CPD Office at 613-533-6642 or e-mailed to [email protected]; please do not include patient names. The planning committee will select cases to address a variety of learning opportunities. If your patient is invited to attend the program, further follow-up will be required, such as a release of consent and contact information.For further information, please call the CPD Office at 613-533-2540.

The Queen’s School of Medicine Building is located on Arch Street at the corner of Stuart Street (one block west of Barrie Street). Paid parking is available at various locations in the area, including the parking lot behind Carruthers Hall (enter off Arch St.) and the underground lot across from Kingston General Hospital and the City lot behind the courthouse (enter from West Street).

A FREE COURSE!

This course is funded by the Ministry of Health, Kingston Area Long-term Care Division. There is no registration fee, only a $100 deposit which will be returned when you complete the course.

ELIGIBILIT Y

Family physicians living in the following counties are eligible to participate: Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, Hastings-Prince Edward, Lanark, Leeds and Grenville, Northumberland, Haliburton, Peterborough, Victoria, and Durham.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

You may claim up to a maximum of $600 for expenses related to attending this course, such as travel, accommodation and the cost of a locum to cover your practice. If you are a rural physician, you may be eligible for additional funds from the OMA (to which you must apply directly) to offset additional expenses.

REGISTR ATION

Registration is limited to 10. Registrations are accepted based on the order in which they are received and on distribution of positions among the eligible counties. Your registration will be confirmed. A deposit of $100 is required. The deposit will be returned if your registration is not accepted, or at the end of the course.

CREDITS

This program meets the accreditation criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been accredited for 27.5 MAINPRO-M1 credits.

The program will start with a short introductory lecture covering extra details around each procedure, after which participants will break into four groups of 10. Each group will rotate through each 40 minute hands-on skill station, where everyone will have time to practice the procedural techniques with guidance from an expert clinician.
