NADI’s Continuing Professional Development SeriesPrevalence of diabetes mellitus, especially of type 2, is on the increase. This rise is most marked in developing countries, Malaysia included. Thus, there is an urgent need for strategies to prevent this ‘epidemic’ and for early diagnosis of diabetes. Beyond these, there is need for ensuring optimal management of the disease, its complications and associated diseases.

To help address these issues, the National Diabetes Institute (NADI) of Malaysia, organises the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) annually since its inception in 2002.

Since 2008, this CPD has been expanded as ‘Diabetes Asia’ Conference Series to emphasise the uniqueness of diabetes presentation and management in Asians.

This year, the ‘Diabetes Asia 2010’ Conference and Workshops are to be held in Kuching, on the island of Borneo. Delegates will, for the first time, have the opportunity to experience Sarawak’s diverse culture and appreciate its unique flora and fauna.

Objectives of the ConferenceThe Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Series as “Diabetes Asia 2010” Conference and Workshops aim to help improve management of diabetes with emphasis on up-to-date and practical aspects of diabetes care. Participants are expected to be able to:• appreciate recent advances,

practical aspects of diabetes care.

• understand ways of ensuring early diagnosis and optimal management for good control of diabetes, complications and associated diseases

• apply knowledge gained during the Conference and Workshops to further improve care for persons with diabetes in the community

Who Should AttendHealthcare professionals responsible for managing people with diabetes including:• Medical and Surgical Specialists• General Practitioners• Medical and Health Officers• Trainee Lecturers• Pharmacists• Nursing Practitioners • Diabetes Educators

The Conference will emphasise on recent advances on current management of diabetes, its complications and related diseases.
