This course will review optical coherence biometry and its use in calculating IOLs. It will cover the operation of the IOL Master for measuring axial lengths, Ks, ACD and white-to-white measurements. Database management and optimization of lens constants will also be discussed.

1:30 - 2:30 p.m. DiagNOStic ULtraSOUND OF the eye aND OrBit • Sandra Frazier Byrne, CDOS, RDMSThis course will incorporate both diagnostic B-scan and A-scan. The lecture will cover the basic principles of ophthalmic ultrasound, examination techniques for intraocular lesion detection and differentiation, and the findings for various common ocular disorders. The lecture will address the use of diagnostic ultrasound in both clear and opaque ocular media and will provide an introduction to ultrasound for the evaluation of orbital disease.

2:30 - 2:45 p.m. bREAk2:45 - 3:45 p.m. DIAbETES AND THE EyE: THE STuFF yOu NEED TO kNOW • T. Reginald Williams, MD

This course will provide an overview of how diabetes can affect the eye including refractive error, lens, glaucoma and particularly diabetic retinopathy. Diagnostic tests and treatment options will be discussed.

3:45 - 4:45 p.m. DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF GlAuCOMA • Kevin D. O’Neal, MD, PhDThis course will provide an overview of glaucoma and its common clinical presentations, as well as review the major categories of glaucoma including acute vs. chronic and open vs. closed. Discussions will also include primary treatment options including both medications and lasers.

This course will present the origin and development of fundus photography, fluorescein and indocyanine angiography, monochromatic retinal photography, diagnostic echography, ocular coherent tomography and slit lamp photography. Special emphasis will be placed on multimodal imaging.

Johnson, COT, COE, CPOTHIPAA guidelines went into effect over ten years ago, however there is still confusion about the disclosure of PHI (protected health information). Attendees of this course will learn the practicalities of HIPAA guidelines, the Privacy Rule, and how they relate to electronic health records.

10:00 - 10:15 a.m. bREAk10:15 - 11:15 a.m. THE PEDIATRIC EyE ExAM: DON’T FEAR THE PEEPER • Alice L. Bashinsky, MD

This course will provide an introduction to the examination of children’s eyes including: growth and development of the eye, establishing rapport with children, helpful tips for a productive examination, and how to gather critical historical data. Performing each element of the pediatric eye exam and how to recognize common pediatric eye disorders will also be presented.

11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. MASTERING OCT: PATTERN RECOGNITION IN CONTExT • Robert A. Sisk, MDOptical coherence tomography (OCT) is an incredibly powerful retinal diagnostic imaging tool. Combining an understanding of basic observed patterns on OCT with appropriate clinical history can yield a diagnosis in most patients with macular disease. This course seeks to empower the learner to listen and employ those skills. Discussions will include recognizing normal macular OCT features and in vivo retinal anatomy, and identifying patterns of common abnormalities in retinal diseases.

This course will update attendees on the latest corneal surgical procedures being performed today. Discussions will include new transplant techniques including DSEK, DMEK, and lamellar grafting. New therapies for corneal ectasia including corneal ring segments and collagen crosslinking will be reviewed. Indications for these new procedures as well as decision making about who are good candidates and the timing of intervention will be touched upon.

2:15 - 3:15 p.m. OPhthaLMic aNeStheSia FOr cataract SUrgery • Anna F. Fakadej, MDThis course will present an overview of the various methods of anesthesia for cataract surgery. Different anesthesia procedures and medications will be covered along with the typical reactions, lengths of action, and side effects. Reasons for the use of different methods in different settings will be presented.

3:15 - 4:15 p.m. INS AND OuTS AND uPS AND DOWNS OF OCulAR MOTIlITy TESTING • Barbara T. Harris, COT, PA, MBAThis course will review the anatomy and physiology of eye movement. Emphasis will be placed on the extraocular muscles and their role in maintaining proper ocular alignment. Basic techniques in the evaluation of ocular motility will be discussed and demonstrated.

HANDOuTS/ONlINE EvAluATIONSA link to course handouts will be emailed to registrants one week prior to the meeting date, as they are not provided onsite. Handouts are available for two weeks. Following the program, a link to the online program evaluation will be emailed to you. Attendees are required to complete the online evaluation within two weeks in order to receive CE Credit for the meeting.

CANCEllATIONS/REFuNDSAll cancellations and requests for refunds must be received by JCAHPO in writing no later than September 11, 2013. CONTINuING EDuCATION CREDITSThis program has been awarded 11 JCAHPO continuing education credits. AOC and OPS credits have been approved for this meeting. Continuing education credits earned will be posted on your account at www.jcahpo.org approximately 6-8 weeks after the program for participants who complete evaluation forms.NOTE: Attendance is monitored for each hour of instruction. Participants absent for more than 15 minutes of any given hour will not receive credit for that hour.
