Continued Professional Development (CPD) Audit Guide

As an AACP member you are required to complete 10 hours of acupuncture in physiotherapy related CPD

every 2 years

CPD AuditEach year 5% of AACP members are randomly selected for auditing. If you are selected you will be required to send paper copies of your CPD evidence to cover you for the last 2 year period. Each piece of evidence will need to be recorded showing the date the activity took place and the number of hours it took to complete, you will also need to show both the learning objectives and outcomes achieved.

What to send us when requested for CPD auditYou should send us your CPD evidence, which should consist of:

• Photocopies of your CPD (certificates, journal reviews, case studies etc.). You do not need to submit presentations, articles, course hand books etc.

• Supporting CPD Registration Forms (or equivalent) for each CPD activity.• Completed CPD Summary Form detailing your current job role(s) and use of acupuncture over the

previous 2 years.

What will AACP accept as CPD?CPD takes many forms therefore we are not producing a definitive list of how members should be learning. CPD activities could include the following:

Work based learning• Reflecting on experiences• Clinical reasoning • Clinical discussion and problem solving

Professional activity• Mentoring others• Acupuncture specialist interest group discussion• Clinical supervision• Policy development and incident reporting/ management

Formal Education• Attending a course• Conducting research• Distance learning• Planning or running a course or IST• Attending IST• Attending AACP Conference

Self-Directed Learning• Critical appraisal of research• Reviewing books• Improving knowledge through the use of the internet, books, journals etc.• Discussion on AACP member area or iCSP.

Scope of practiceThe CPD activity needs to be within the scope of physiotherapy in the UK. For example, not cosmetic acupuncture which is not recognised by the CSP as being within the scope of physiotherapy. You can download a copy of the AACP CPD Registration form by logging onto the member’s area of our website (Documents » Forms, admin, guidance » CPD Registration Form 2016/ CPD Summary Form 2016).

Reflection and recording your CPDCPD activities need to be reflected on, this reflection needs to be documented for it to count towards your CPD hours. This is to ensure that the CPD you have undertaken has benefited your practice, service development or patients. For AACP CPD, full completion of the AACP CPD registration form is sufficient for your CPD hours to be accepted.

We recommend that your records are kept up to date in a portfolio as you would do for the HCPC. You can also record your CPD online by logging onto your own membership part of our website (my dashboard » personal details » CPD). However for the audit we will need to see the paperwork to back this up.
