August 24: Called needing help with her husband. They were trying to get him into his lift and he slipped out. August 25: Called reporting a white semi with a cat- tle hauler trailer flew by stop flagger heading south through construction zone, Oconto; Reported a red Subaru with Massachusetts plate was sitting on his property, but is now gone, Arnold; Reported a motor- cycle accident and driver is pinned underneath on the Dunning Road, Arnold; 9045 Advised he was enroute with a female, arrested on a Brown County warrant, Merna; Caller stated he needed to report an accident hit and run that happened yesterday. He stated he was heading south and went to pass the tractor and the tractor turned left and hit him but kept driving, Berwyn. Mildred (McCarthy) Pinkston, 96, of North Platte, formerly of Arnold, Nebraska, passed away, August 27, 2021, at Great Plains Health in North Platte. Mildred was born Feb- ruary 20, 1925, to Cor- nelius and Sylvia (Gess) McCarthy at York, Ne- braska. She was born at home on the farm 9 miles south of York, assisted by a neighbor lady. She at- tended the Covent School in York her kindergarten year and the family moved to Eureka Valley (Anselmo, NE.) When she was in the first grade, the teacher advanced her to the second grade because she was ahead of her class. She attended coun- try school in Eureka Val- ley until the 9th grade and then she attended High School in Arnold, Nebraska, graduating in 1942. While attending school at Eureka Valley, her friends nicknamed her “Mick.” While attending high school, she worked at a hair salon and fixed hair in clients’ homes and worked at the telephone company. After graduat- ing, she would ride the train from Arnold to Kearney, Nebraska, to work at the telephone of- fice. Then she transferred to the telephone office in Sargent, Nebraska. In 1943 she married Gene Pinkston of Arnold at the Catholic parsonage in Broken Bow, Nebraska. They lived on a farm in Eureka Valley until mov- ing to a farm on Pleasant Hill in Arnold and lived in a sod house. They later moved to a different home on Pleasant Hill and continued to farm until moving into Arnold. Mildred was a hard worker raising five chil- dren, selling Avon, raising a large garden, along with hundreds of chickens, selling the chickens and eggs to local customers, and worked at Varney Drug store in Broken Bow. Mildred was a beau- tiful seamstress and made all of her children’s and husbands’ clothes for years. She made a wed- ding dress and brides- maid dresses for her niece’s wedding. Also, made the bridesmaid dresses for her daughter Carol’s wedding. Mildred was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arnold and was one of the women of the Altar Society that started and worked dili- gently at the St. Agnes Thrift Store located in the church basement. She was a member of the American Legion Auxil- iary and DCCW. She held an office and worked many years with the Arnold Alumni Associa- tion. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and vis- ited Ireland in 2006. Her family and friends were very important to her and hosted many family and holiday dinners. The Pinkston Farm was al- ways a place to visit and have a great time. She was a devout Catholic and always had a rosary in her hand or nearby. Mildred moved to North Platte in 2017 and joined St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Arnold, NE – Kent De- Losh, age 73, of Arnold, died Sunday August 29, 2021, at the North Plate Care Center. Funeral services will be Friday, September 3, 2021, at 10:00 am at the United Methodist Church in Arnold with Pastor Lana Day officiating and Pastor Bill Williams offici- ating. Burial with Mili- tary Honors will follow in the Arnold Cemetery in Arnold, Nebraska. Memorials are sug- gested to the Arnold Fire Department. A visitation will take place on Thursday, Sep- tember 2, 2021, from 3:00 to 8:00 pm, with family greeting from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Arnold Fu- neral Home in Arnold. DeLosh was born on March 27, 1948, in Arnold, Nebraska. He was the second of three children born to Betty (Nansel) DeLosh and Leon DeLosh. Kent at- tended Mackley School through the 7th grade, then attended Arnold Public School graduating with the class of 1966. Kent enlisted in the U.S. Army in March of 1967 and was a combat Medic in Vietnam. He was hon- orably discharged in March of 1970. He contin- ued his military service with the US Reserves, re- tiring in April 1989. He was a very proud and ac- tive member of the VFW and American Legion. Kent married Sue Lam- berty on July 24, 1976. To this union two children were born. Marie Ann was born on February 20,

1977, and Donnell Tobe on November 19, 1986. Kent was very proud of his children and his grandchildren. Kent spent his working years farming and ranch- ing for himself and the local neighbors. He spent many years helping Bud Steburg as a tender brick layer. Kent was very pas- sionate about his hunting, fishing, and camping. Labor Day was a favorite time of his, with his whole family camping in Valentine for the week- end. This was a tradition they had done for 30 years. He loved to get in a vehicle and drive. Kent probably drove more miles than anyone with- out ever leaving Custer County. Kent never knew a stranger, visiting with everyone he saw. He suf- fered for 16 years follow- ing pancreatic cancer and with every new ailment that came up, he coura- geously fought his way through it. Kent was preceded in death by his parents, sis- ter Toby Preston, and brother Dan DeLosh. Survivors include his wife Sue of 45 years, daughter Marie (Arttie) Parker, and children Jay- don and Jaxon of Her- shey; son Donnell (Cassy) and children Bexley and Dekker of Arnold, brother-in-law Jerry Pre- ston and many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Jerry) Wilson, North Platte; son, Don (Delores) Pinkston, Seminole, AL., grandchil- dren, Michelle (Julian) Whips, Justin Wilson, Marci (Jeff) Heinzen, Darin (Lorainne) Pinkston, Denise (Craig) Rease, Pete, Ron, Jeff Miller, Kimberly, Melissa, Lisa, Lori, Dawn, and Chad; 34 great-grandchil- dren, and 26 great-great- grandchildren; along with many other family members and friends. Donna Fletcher visited at he home of Betty Cole last week, bringing a Readers Digest article copy from the 90s by Fred Epstein, M.D. on his life experience with dyslexia. Teagan Hanson of Callaway Is Cornhusker Marching Band LINCOLN, NE (08/26/2021)-- Teagan Hanson of Callaway is part of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's 296- member Cornhusker Marching Band, which will make its 2021 debut September 4 at Memorial Stadium with pregame and halftime perform- ances at Nebraska's foot- ball home opener against Fordham. Hanson, a senior hospi- tality, restaurant and
tourism management major, plays tuba. It will be the band's first in-person performance at the stadium since Novem- ber 2019. The "Pride of All Ne- braska" has been seen by millions of viewers on tel- evision. The band was the first collegiate ensemble to perform at all of the major football bowl games: Rose, Orange, Fi- esta, Sugar and Cotton.
