d. During dry season rain water seepage from the roofing and splashes fromwindows/doors, can be checked by seepage markings on the wall. Doneedful to arrest rain water leakage by attending to the roof, joints,windows followed by checking the rain water drainage arrangement andsimilar such measures in consultation with an experienced mason.

e. Data circuit like managed lease line circuit for Studio-transmitter link aremade available by the service provider.

Supervise Installingof electric switchgearand laying of powercables

The user/ individual on the job needs to know and understand how to:

PC11. Electrical installation for interconnecting ESCOM incoming supply, captivepower source, main distribution board, UPS, switch boards for lighting,equipment and general purpose power points.

PC12. Captive power source like DG or Solar panel as per the OEM'srecommendations after providing suitable foundation, exhaust arrangementetc. in a well-ventilated location and away from the FM station so that, thenoise and exhaust does not get into the station.

PC13. Installation of UPS system and power distribution per recommendedprocedures and drawings.

PC14. Laying of Electric wires in conduits for the luminaries over the false ceiling.

PC15. Ensuring marking of all cables as per the drawing for ease of identification.

PC16. Sealing of conduits with glass wool buds to prevent sound leakage and ingressof insects.

PC17. Ensuring that electrical load is uniformly distributed on all the three phases tothe extent possible.

PC18. Provision of two exclusive copper plate earth pits as per IS standard foroperator safety.

PC19. Provision of two separate earths for the lightening arrestor and tower.Ensuring that the earth strip from the earth pit to the equipment is made of atleast 5x15x3 mm3 copper strip or equivalent multi strand copper cable. Theconnections are brazed to ensure proper connectivity.

PC20. Ensure marking of the earth pits prominently to prevent being buried in wildgrowth over time.

Supervise fabricationand Installing ofTechnical Furniture

The user/individual on the job needs to know and understand how to:

PC21. Get the customized technical furniture such as Mixer table, Discussion tableetc. fabricated as per the drawing. Ensure that the cutouts for installing theBroadcast mixer is as per the recommendation of OEM.

PC22. Ensure conformance to the drawings for cable entry, routing of the cablesfor the table.

Verify Installation ofHVAC equipment

The user/individual on the job needs to know and understand how to:

PC23. Get the AC equipment installed by experienced technicians as per floor plandrawing and instructions in OEM's manual.

PC24. Get the heat exchanger unit installed preferably on the rooftop in a well-ventilated location for efficient heat transfer. If access to the rooftop is notpossible, it is installed on the ground, over suitable brick masonry mounting.

PC25. Ensure that the condensation from the evaporator is drained out smoothly byproviding plumbing with adequate slope.

Supervise Laying ofAudio Cables in theStudio

The user/ individual on the job needs to know and understand how to:

PC26. Termination of audio cables in the Studio and control room on panel mountXLR connectors using a customized wall plate installed on the woodenskirting.

PC27. Laying and routing of audio cables for interconnecting the audio equipment asper the drawing and details provided by the designer/consultant.

PC28. Marking of all audio cables using standard notation and legends as provided inthe drawing for ease of identification.

PC29. Ensuring that soldering of audio cables to the connector's "live", "return" and"earth" terminals are proper. Follow standard cable color codes for theinterconnection.

PC30. Sealing of the conduits after completing the wiring with glass wool buds toprevent sound leakage and ingress of insects.

Supervise Installingof Audio Equipmentand Computers atStudio center

The user/ individual on the job needs to know and understand how to:

PC31. Installation and wiring of all audio equipment, computers etc. as perapproved floor plan provided by the System Integrator

PC32. Ensure that earth wires are securely connected to each equipment andtermination plates using brass or copper fasteners.

PC33. Install licensed application software or freeware for recording, postproduction,playlist creation, playback and archiving in the respective computer.

PC34. Installation of LAN by experienced technicians and connection of allcomputers and network enabled devices like Mixers, Internet Router etc.

PC42. Installing cable Dehydrator and the associated plumbing for the outdoor coaxialcable. Ensure all connections are properly sealed and leak proof.

PC43. Installation of LT distribution kiosk, cabling and earthing.

PC44. Installation of Codec for the STL link, Broadcast processor, FM transmitter,standby transmitter (if provided), RF change over switch, dummy load, FMDemodulator, Interface equipment for automation etc. as per drawing andprocedure provided by the OEM of each equipment.

PC45. Ensure that earth strips are securely connected to high power equipment suchas UPS and FM transmitter with the help of copper/brass nuts bolts. Theindividual earth strips are joined by brazing.

SuperviseFoundation,Assembly andErection ofTransmission Tower

PC46. Laying of RCC foundation for the transmitter tower by experienced Civilcontractor as per drawing and procedure provided by the towermanufacturer.

PC49. Install and position the dipoles, power dividers, branch and feeder cablesetc. as per drawing provided by the OEM.

PC50. Fasten all connections with the help of double galvanized fasteners of properdimension.

PC51. Provide suitable RF connectors on both sides of the RF feeder cable andconnect it to the antenna and seal it with weatherproof tape to stop ingress ofrainwater and dust.

PC52. Connect the other end of the feeder cable to the RF transfer switch in case of1+1 configuration otherwise directly to the Broadcast transmitter through aflexible RF link as per the drawing.

PC53. Connect and provide protection to all RF connections against weathering bywrapping and sealing with sealant and weatherproof tape.

PC54. Ensure that the bonding between the lightening arrestor, copper cable andearth is seamless and of low resistance.

PC55. Ensure that the tower earth is provided with two numbers of exclusive earths.Ensure that the tower earth pit connections are separate from stationearthing.

PC56. Ensure proper cleaning and preparation of tower surface before painting.

PC57. Ensure that the tower is applied with metal primer followed by two coats ofenamel paint of alternate bands of international orange and white.

Check and understand the documentation on testing procedure of the entiresetup provided by the respective OEM and consultant and understand theoperating conditions and functioning of each of the equipment. In case of anyclarification or details are required, get it from them before taking up thetesting.

PC2. Adhere to the recommended operating condition of each of the equipment andnot to exceed them at any cost.

Testing of ElectricPower Supplyarrangement

The user/ individual on the job needs to know and understand how to:

PC3. Check all connectivity of electrical, audio, RF and Data circuits by physicalinspection.

PC4. Check and ensure that polarity for the Hot (positive/Red), Cold(negative/Black) and Ground (green) points for audio are per standardpractice.

PC5. Check and ensure proper polarity of power supply Line, Neutral and Earth perstandard practice.

PC6. Check and log power supply voltages and currents drawn by all the majorequipment, using multimeter and clip-on ammeter.

PC7. Check and log AC voltage between Neutral and Earth of incoming supply,distribution board and every point socket. If the AC voltage is more than 1.0 V,check the earth connectivity.

PC8. Check for balancing of electric power loads on all the three phases and try tobalance the power to the extent possible by distributing the load, if required.

Testing of TowerInstallation

The individual on the job needs to know and understand how to:

PC14. Instruct the mast rigger to double check the tightness of the nuts and bolts ofall the members and sections, antenna support pipe etc. of the tower.

PC15. Ascertain the verticality of the tower and antenna by visual checks from at leastthree directions.

PC16. Ascertain that the feeder cable is properly laid without sharp bends, kinks etc.and properly fastened to the tower.

Subjective Tests forQuality and Coverage

The user/individual on the job needs to know and understand how to:

PC17. Carry out subjective evaluation of audio quality of the station by a panel ofexperienced artists, broadcasters and listeners for artifacts, abnormalities etc.

a. In case of any artifacts, check the installation to identify, troubleshoot andrectify the problem.

b. If required, seek guidance from the consultant.

PC18. Check the quality of the off-air broadcast and coverage in the field in at leastfour directions up to a distance of 75 KM and record the signal quality on a scaleof 1 to 5 at an interval of 1-2 KM from the FM transmission site.

Guidelines for Assessment

1. Criteria for assessment for each Qualification Pack will be created by the Sector Skill Council.Each Performance Criteria (PC) will be assigned marks proportional to its importance in NOS.SSC will also lay down proportion of marks for Theory and Skills Practical for each PC.

2. The assessment for the theory part will be based on knowledge bank of questions createdby the SSC.

3. Assessment will be conducted for all compulsory NOS, and where applicable, on the selectedelective/option NOS/set of NOS.

4. Individual assessment agencies will create unique question papers for theory part for eachcandidate at each examination/training center (as per assessment criteria below).

5. Individual assessment agencies will create unique evaluations for skill practical for everystudent at each examination/training center based on this criterion.

6. To pass the Qualification Pack , every trainee should score a minimum of 70% of aggregatemarks to successfully clear the assessment.

7. In case of unsuccessful completion, the trainee may seek reassessment on the QualificationPack.
