CONTENTSERV

The new CONTENTSERV Release CS17.0 offers numerous new features and comprehensive improvements − our Release Notes pro-vide you with detailed information on current product developments.

Effective immediately a new and improved portal is available for the search, centralization and distribution of media data. The new portal which is based on the expanded dashboard and the OpenSearch mo-dule will replace the previous MAM Portal and will now be expanded to include PIM data as well. You can now supply internal and external CONTENTSERV users with your data in a far more user friendly and effective way than ever before.

In this release, the Dashboard, which was introduced in Version CS16.0, has been greatly expanded by the inclusion of additional tiles, for example for the status tracking of translation jobs. In addition, the dashboards can now depict your content in a context-sensitive way. You are also now able to visualize display data from external data sources in the dashboard. Look forward to even more flexibility and transparency!

The new Data Quality module, which was delivered for the first time with Release CS16.1, offers additional expansions that ensure data quality overviews at any time. The dashboard graphically displays all of your areas of activity at a glance and you can get to the bottom of causes via drilldowns. Corrections can be carried out via the tested and approved status-based workflow. Depending on the data’s quality, now process chains can even be run in an automated manner. You can thus ensure optimally customized and rule-based data quality for all output channels and languages at all times.

Other existing features have also been updated considerably for CS17.0. A class-based editor is now available for multi-classification.

The new Japanese and French user interfaces help meet the needs of growing internationalization.

We have also significantly extended the functionality of the PPM Desktop Publisher, which enables the highly efficient synchronizati-on of PIM and MAM content with Adobe® InDesign® documents. One major advantage is its new deeper integration into the CONTENTSERV system which enables you to jump directly into the PIM system and to place several objects or templates within InDesign® in a single step. It also facilitates the system-based generation of language variants with standard Adobe® InDesign® functionalities. It will now be much easier to integrate external agencies into the advertising materials processes. As continually important components in the marketing mix, print objects can now be implemented even more cost-efficiently and effectively!

A brand new feature in the portfolio is the CORE Data Flow module, which highlights the central character of a PIM system. The technical system integration has already been completely updated in the course of the last few releases thanks to the import and export database. Simultaneously, integration mechanisms such as REST are continually adapted to the new features. The new module ESA Data Flow takes over the rather irregular, file-based acquisition and output of product data. Thanks to the CORE Data Flow, it is now extremely easy to configure reusable import and export processes and rules for data ma-pping via the CONTENTSERV user interface without needing any assistance from the IT department. This simplifies and accelerates pro-duct data communication with suppliers and dealers alike!

By the way, you can also use CORE Data Flow in projects for the initial import of product data from previous systems – perfectly customized to meet your individual needs!

We invite you to take advantage of what CS17.0 offers to move towards a unique, next-level Product Experience!

Kind regards, Your CONTENTSERV Team

When redesigning the MAM Portal, we focused in particular on making the operation easier. The new portal interface now enables a super simple search for PIM and MAM objects. The selected objects can be merged and made available for publication under predefined conditions for both internal and external use (download).

The new download preset functions from the previous MAM shares are now available in the portal. In addition, the MAM portal can now also be mapped and operated via the dashboard for a modern, individualized and effective user experience.

Search Requests via OpenSearch

You can start specific search requests via OpenSearch that can sub-sequently either be integrated into an existing collection or be used to start a new collection. The different collections can be edited directly from within OpenSearch. Additionally it is now possible to switch be-tween collections at any time. You simply select the required presets for a collection and send your partner a download link via email. Of course you can also provide your internal colleagues with direct down-load access.

MAM Portal in the Dashboard

The new MAM Portal can now be easily operated directly in your dash-board. The new collection tile was developed specifically for this pur-pose. It collaborates directly with the search tile. Search results from the search tile can easily be moved to the collection tile via drag & drop. In turn the collection tile lists all existing collections and enables the direct editing of collections from within the tile. This makes the con-stant switching back and forth between dashboard and OpenSearch unnecessary.

Together with Version CS17.0 we deliver a newly developed concept for import and export: the CORE Data Flow. After more than a year of de-velopment time in ongoing customer projects and intensive field tests, this module has been adopted into the standard version.

CORE Data Flow Import

The point of the CORE Data Flow Import is to enable a simple flow of structured data from and into the customer’s CONTENTSERV system. Not only CSV and Excel files but also XML data, database queries or REST service queries can be imported and processed via a transfor-mation map. The concept is based on “Extract-transform-load” (ETL), a recognized concept from the IT environment according to which data source, data transformation and final data sink (destination of the data) are designed as editing layers that are as independent as possible, which in turn facilitate very flexible architectures.

The transformation methods are closely coordinated with the typical use cases from real life. These include for example:

Conversion of units, time and dates Merge or split several fields Mapping of value lists Create hierarchies from paths and columns Import images from Deep Links or from the local hard disk Import in special data types such as tables, reference attributes or

XSL transformations Workflow integration such as the detection of duplicates, triggering

actions, creating tasks for editing

The import process is handled via Active Jobs so that the process can be controlled at all times. If an error occurs, you can choose between receiving a warning message or completely refusing acceptance of individual data blocks. Nevertheless, neither of those options causes an interruption of the entire task.

CORE Data Flow Export

The CORE Data Flow Export is the counterpart to the import. The levels of the data source and data sink are switched in a way so as to enable the outflow out of PIM data in structured export formats via transfor-mation. Supported are:

CSV files Excel files with embedded images Excel files with a product per spreadsheet or file XML data PowerPoint files REST Service Interface, which enables queries from outside of pre-

configured exports.

Notes

The CORE Data Flow Export in Release CS17.0 comes with a beta state.

The Module CORE Data Flow is ideally suited for ad hoc imports and exports that are prepared by administrators and can then be carried out extremely easily by the end user.

Thanks to the Active Job Platform, it is now possible to implement data flows automatically or via the hot folder and thus to configure interfaces.

We recommend using the tried and tested modules CORE Import Data Base and CORE Export Data Base for system integrations (interfaces between systems with regular exchange of data).

Data Quality Panel

In order to secure data quality of the product life cycle at the detail level and depending on the usage, it might be necessary to expand the previous status-based workflows. For this purpose, product group and status-specific quality rules can be configured that individually enable a quality differentiation in the languages and also for each output chan-nel. Quality rules are then implemented automatically in accordance with the configuration and an up-to-the-minute quality status of each object is available at all times.

You can control the data quality via different display options in the dashboard. Monitoring of the data quality and the status-based pro-duct workflow operate hand in hand. You can thus ensure optimal data quality, for example when providing data for output channels such as a shop system, website or newsletter. The data quality can be displayed for the entire system or in a context-specific manner (even for each individual product).

The left part of the Data Quality Panel depicts all rules that are re-levant to the specific context. The display can also be used to view the object overview on the individual rules. The object overview is located on the right-hand side of the panel featuring a list of all objects on which the rule applies as well as the corresponding status of the rule. The bottom part of the panel provides you with detailed information on a selected object. The data quality panel can be accessed via various data quality tiles that offer a freely configurable overview on your data quality. Data Quality Tile

The PPM Desktop Publisher is an Adobe® InDesign® plugin for simple data transfer and update features. It has been available as an addi-tional option for templates and dynamic work in the Print sector since the 16.0 release.

The Desktop Publisher enables the use and updating of CONTENTSERV object contents in InDesign® documents. Variables that can establish a connection with system objects such as products or images (place holders) are assigned to frames and individual texts. This makes it ex-tremely easy to create and update documents based on object and document templates.

The simple structure of the pallet, which has been reduced to its essen-tial features, provides the layout artist with the most commonly needed features to place objects on a page either manually or from within a view in a template-based manner.

No further database know-how is necessary for the layout artist to create master documents and object templates using InDesign® stan-dard features. The result can be checked immediately afterwards: After assigning objects to the created templates, the variables are filled and displayed in accordance with the preset paragraph format.

Options for image placement via http/s

While it was previously necessary to access the image volumes on the InDesign®-Client’s side via SMB, the graphic designer can now decide during login whether he or she wants to work with fine data (via SMB or http/s) or with layout previews (via http/s).

Multiple Selection and Placement

While it was previously only possible to place an individual object or an object with a corresponding template on the InDesign® document, you can now simultaneously link several objects to the document in a single step

Further innovations:

Button for the Selection of Multiple Classes

Class Selection Dialogue

When working with multi-class objects, the new Editor now offers a filtering option for viewing selected classes.

This is particularly useful for users who only want to view or edit pro-duct data from specific viewing angles, for example a copywriter who only wants to edit marketing texts. He or she can now select and view specific text classes and will only be shown attributes that belong to the relevant classes. This class filter can be canceled at any time, which will cause all available classes and their attributes to be visible again.

Context Dashboard

From now on dashboard content is not only structured in a user-specific way but also in a context-sensitive manner. This enables the provision of visualizations and features in the dashboard – also depending indi-vidually on the data context (navigation structure).

CONTEXT DASHBOARD AND NEW DASHBOARD TILES

The dashboard for one product group in PIM can, for example, offer completely different information and features than the dashboard of a specific individual product or even media asset groups or individual datasets in MAM. Context dashboards can also be administered cen-trally if desired.

Interface Module

INTERFACE MODULE

Many of our customers would like for their own Corporate Design to be reflected in the CONTENTSERV interface. In previous versions it has already been possible to adjust the user interface to the customer’s branding. Now this has been simplified even further: the new interface module provides you with the possibility of configuring your interface individually, for example via simple input fields where you can define fonts and colors for headlines and backgrounds.

NEW BACKUP MECHANISM

Because of the numerous new features in CONTENTSERV’s system architecture – among them for example the introduction of Cassandra as an export database or ElasticSearch as the successor of the previ-ous search index – a new strategy for backups has been introduced in release CS17.0.

In order to secure the consistency of the various databases, we will now be using a so-called cold backup outside of the application. The CS17.0 source code now comes with a script that can be adjusted to the project-specific conditions and can be implemented at the operating system level in freely definable intervals. The previously available pos-sibility of a hot backup only for the CONTENTSERV database (without an export database and ElasticSearch) is still available.

SELECTED DETAIL ADAPTATION

Additive Inheritance for Multi-Classification

Multi-classification makes it possible to assign more than one class to an object. The class inheritance can now also be carried out additively so as to considerably simplify the retroactive adding of classes to an already customized class structure.

Automated Deletion of REST Logs

In order to be able to automatically erase log entries from REST servi-ces, a new automation has been implemented. This enables a simple selection of all logs that are to be erased as well as the specification of time intervals in which they are to be erased.

Flat Icons

The symbols that are used to display items such as classes in CONTENTSERV have a new design. The grey flat icon library enables a clear, well-structured and modern depiction of the user interface.

PHP7

CONTENTSERV now supports PHP7. This also leads to a significant performance improvement regarding program execution.

Plan and place channels in the Publication Manager and Whiteboard

Products can be planned and placed in the Publication Manager and the Whiteboard. This feature has now been expanded so that you can even plan and place channels as well, for example extended products with specific prices, images, etc.

Submenu Structure

When right-clicking on an object, a menu featuring different actions opens. A submenu structure has been introduced so as to make this menu clear and well-structured.

Download with Preset

It is now possible to download files with stored settings (presets) in the MAM studio. This feature was already available in the MAM portal and has now been added in the MAM studio as well.

Search Back References

If a MAM object was referenced by several PIM objects, it was previ-ously possible to back reference a PIM attribute via the where-used list. Now this information will not only be displayed but it is also possible to search within these back references, for example in order to find all illustrations for a specific article number in MAM.

New Features for Active Jobs

Provided that this function is activated, a message will be sent to the re-levant user or a registered email address after the job has been finished.

In addition, Active Jobs can now be started directly from within the context menu to make it easier for you to start a job. The handling has been further improved since only those Active Jobs are displayed that are relevant for the specific context.

A further innovation is the feature “do not carry out parallel jobs”. You can activate this function when you want to prevent the next job from starting while the first job is still active. For example, this is useful in cases when automatic background jobs are to be started every 10 mi-nutes and the individual job might last longer than 10 minutes.

Most of our customers would like to generate log messages and ex-port them as well. Many log messages are debug messages which are rather irrelevant in the log overview. In order to enhance performance, the default settings of the log levels have been changed from “all mes-sages” to “no debug messages”. If you are using Active Jobs with log level settings, please check whether you have to adjust your settings.

New PDF Preview

The PDF preview has been updated to where it can now display an overview of multi-page PDF files. When clicking on the file, the preview opens and makes it possible to scroll through the pages before the file is opened in the PDF format by clicking it again.

PDFReactor 9 Integration

Version 9 of the PDFReactor is supported for CS17.0.

Adobe® InDesign® CC2017 and Comet (as of 4.0.5 R17002)

Adobe® InDesign® CC2017 and Comet (4.0.5 R17002) are supported for CS17.0.

New System Behavior when exceeding the number of licenses purchased

When creating and saving a new user, CONTENTSERV checks immedi-ately during the saving process whether licenses are available. If this is not the case, an error message appears to inform the user. If the user continues with the saving process instead of canceling it, the system will be locked and the appropriate license manager will receive an email containing the relevant information to unlock the system.

CONTENTSERV

Where-used list can be exported as Excel files

The mass operation “export as Excel file” is now available for where-used lists.

Product Information can now be hidden in the REST API

During a search of a channel via the REST API, all product information is displayed. Since this can be several hundred lines long and is usually not needed in the API, it is now possible to hide this information and only display an overview of the channel.
