3D Dystopian/Post-Apocalyptic EnvironmentSection 1: Rationale (approx. 150 words)
I am interested in exploring the Unreal Engine and its tools to create a 3D apocalyptic environment. I want to experiment with the different levels of scaling and rotations so that I can get a better understanding on why the scaling and rotations play such a big role on the environment as well as its audience. I want to develop my skills in rotating and scaling so that I can understand all the different ways that an object is portrayed within its environment. I’m hoping to understand how and why and environment is made the way it is, why the objects are scaled the way that they are and how objects are

portrayed compared to the average human being. The whole reason on why I’m working on this project is so that people notice the beauty in games, rather than just the mechanics. People should care about this because nowadays, apocalyptic games are becoming more about the mechanics rather than the beauty of the environment itself.
Section 2: Project Concept (approx. 200 words)My influences for this project is ‘Deus Ex Mankind Divided’ This is because the models and the environment itself within Deus Ex isn’t exactly pretty. I prefer games with a view, a sight to behold, which Deus Ex has. I’m making this project for myself, this is so that I can get a better idea on how models are created with scale and rotation and how they play such a big role on the environment. Once I’ve created this environment, I can then use it for future use whenever I need to look back on scaling and rotating. My job role is the Environment Designer and 3D Modeller. I will need to research other game development companies that include environment designers or level designers or both. The main obstacles that I might run into when creating my project is that the software might crash on me, therefore losing my work. When creating 3D models in 3DS Max or working on the level itself in the Unreal Engine, I will back up my saves on the OneDrive, which is an online server that stores data. I will also be backing up my saves onto a memory stick so that I have a physical copy of my work. Section 3: Evaluation (approx. 150 words)I know how to use the Unreal Engine as well as its tools, but not to its full potential. I know how to create a grey map within the Unreal Engine as well as 3DS Max, this does not take a lot of skill but It’s helpful to create when coming up with prototypes of an environment. I know from creating foliage to creating 3D models, programming small mechanics like flashlights, jumping, sprinting, crouching, etc. When it comes to industry knowledge, I believe I know a fair amount. I can tell the difference between Triple-A games and Indie, know the different industry sectors as well as majority of the reasons on why people join this type of industry. I think my project will help me to come up with new and unique ideas and putting them into action. I believe every game needs level design to show off its natural beauty. I hope by doing this, it will help me get a better understanding on the basic principles required. Proposed Research Sources and Bibliography (Harvard Format)
This section provides an opportunity to record the initial research sources, both primary and secondary, that you intend to use. Your sources of research should be as wide as possible and could include libraries, galleries, books, theatre, cinema visits, films, videos, magazines, films, TV and Radio programmes, computer games, websites, blogs, social media, radio programmes, archive material, and other media and multi-media sources etc. Make sure you use Harvard referencing.

Project Action Plan and Timetable
This section provides you with an opportunity to outline your planning and organisation over a period of weeks and the activities you will need to carry out to complete your project in the agreed time frame. The more time and thought you give to planning your project the more successful it is likely to be. It is important that you consider how you will balance ambition, time and realism in the realisation of the project. You should also include what you are going to do, how you will do it and by when. Remember to include: time spent sourcing materials and other resources to conduct research, seek feedback from tutors and peers, and identify when you will carry out independent study.

CHAPTER 1
Introduction
This project portfolio is a report of my Extended Project for my second-year UAL Extended Diploma in Creative Media Games Development pathway. My project is a grey-mapped 3D model of a dystopian Environment made in the Unreal Engine.
In this chapter I will be talking about the background of my project. Answering questions such as "What makes me want to do this project?" "What do I seek to achieve by following through with this project?" And much more. In other words, you will get a better understanding on what makes my project unique and why I have chosen this idea as my project.
You will then understand who I am as a person and what I have learnt during the time on my course. Then lastly, my research plan.
The Background of my Project
When working on my project, I think about my future. This is the sole reason on what makes me want to do my project. I want to become a 3D level designer as well as being able to create my own games with my free time. This is why I chose creating a 3D environment over anything else, since this is what I want to major in within the industry.
The basic premise of my project is to create a grey-mapped 3D environment using the Unreal Engine. This 3D environment will be based on a dystopian theme.
I want to achieve experience, tips, tricks and skills when creating a 3D environment. My target audience is aimed at ages 18 or above. I chose this age since I want adults to roam in my environment and tell me what I can do to improve, telling me the pros and cons of my creation. By doing this, I hope to learn more about environments such as how they're created, who creates them, how many people create them and what makes an environment, an environment. These questions will be answered through research and hard work.
Include your mission statement poster and explanation of why you do what you do.

What is my project about?
Today, games are increasingly used to explore a range of different subjects and ideas. I will be exploring interactive elements of my medium to develop designs for a dystopian environment. The game I have developed for my project will focus on environment design and level design. My role in this project is the designer, since I will be designing the 3D environment myself.
Why my project is important?
My project is important because I am using this time to understand what makes a dystopian environment, dystopian-like. How rotating and scaling plays a role on creating an environment, especially a dystopian environment. I want to improve my skills in level design, how the player roams the environment as well as how the layout of the games depicts the path that the players choose to take.

Literature/Resources Review
Introduction The introduction should be relatively brief, simply providing an overview of the chapter. For example:
Within this chapter, you will notice that there are a lot of research resources. Varying from films to games on Interactive media products.
This chapter will illustrate a review of different types of resources that I have used which have helped me get a better understanding on Dystopian environments and environments in general. Some have even influenced my work further. This chapter will start with my practitioner's reports looking at two practitioners who work with 3D environments. The chapter then ends with ideas and a key conclusion of all the resources that I have used for my project.

Research Findings
In this chapter, you will summarise the collected data and the statistical treatment, and/or mechanics, of analysis. You should start this paragraph by briefly restating the topic/theme of your project (take it from Chapter 1).
Explain the object of each question, research activity, point out results, and present those results in a chosen form of summarised data. Select method of presenting data carefully.
In a quantitative study, the results usually begin with a description of the sample (e.g., sample size, description of participants who were excluded and why, handling of missing data). Next, descriptive statistics (e.g., frequencies/percentages for categorical variables, means, standard deviations, and ranges for continuously measured variables) are presented.
In a qualitative study, the results often include many quotes from participants who were interviewed. Here you should also present your non-textual elements such as photos, videos, audio files, maps, tables, charts, mind maps, SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis, etc.
Data analysis
What strategies did you use to analyse your data? What did you find out?
Conclusion - How did the research help me with my project?
What did you learn from your research and how did it inform your project?
