ANMAC assessment team undertake a review of the accreditation submission; visit the education provider’s establishment and request further information as omissions or

issues are identified.

Education provider receives draft assessment team report and provides a response to ANMAC.

Education provider may seek a review of the ANMAC determination.

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia approves or declines to approve the ANMAC Board’s determination concerning the accreditation for the program.

ANMAC informs the education provider of the outcome of the accreditation process and their rights to review or appeal.

Education provider receives report of the outcome of the preliminary review of their application and re-submits the amended documentation with the required number of

copies to ANMAC including all additional supporting material.

Education provider submits application and supporting documentation.

Education Provider submits written notice to the ANMAC Director of Accreditation of an intention to apply for the assessment of a program.

Education provider obtains the ANMAC Education Provider Application Pack and assembles evidence in accordance with the current ANMAC Standards and Criteria for

the Accreditation of Nursing and Midwifery Courses Leading to Registration, Enrolment, Endorsement and Authorisation.

The primary function of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) as the Accreditation Authority for the Nursing and Midwifery professions is to ensure that courses leading to registration or enrolment meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia’s (NMBA) approved standards for accreditation. This function ensures that nurses and midwives who successfully complete courses accredited by ANMAC are able to practice in a safe and competent manner to achieve quality patient/client outcomes.

ANMAC Standards and Criteria for the Accreditation of Re-Entry Programs Leading to Registration as a Midwife in Australia

The ANMAC ‘Accreditation Policy Framework’ has been developed in consultation with key stakeholders and incorporates national standards of health professional education, professional registration and quality improvement. The policy framework also incorporates all relevant provisions of the National Law contained in the schedule to the Health Practitioner Regulation Law 2009 (Qld).

That this tool is read in conjunction with the current version of the ANMC Standards and Criteria for the Accreditation of Nursing and Midwifery Courses leading to Registration, Enrolment, Endorsement and Authorisation in Australia – with Evidence Guide (the Standards).

The submission documentation addresses the Standards and that there is sufficient evidence provided to meet each Standard.

Examples of evidence that may be produced to demonstrate compliance with criterion are listed in the Standards. Except where indicated with an (M) signifying ‘mandatory’.

DOMAIN 1: COURSE MANAGEMENTStandard One: Governance

The course provider demonstrates policies, procedures, processes and practices in regard to: quality assurance and improvement; course design and management; consultation and collaboration; and ensuring resources adequate to course implementation.

Statement of Intent

That courses have adequate governance arrangements to produce graduates with the required graduate competency outcomes, as detailed in the ANMC National Competency Standards for the Midwife.

The course provider demonstrates policies, procedures, processes and practices to establish that the curriculum promotes a woman-centred midwifery philosophy as the foundation of practice within a framework of primary health care in order to comprehensively achieve the graduate competency outcomes.

That the curriculum meets the requirements of midwifery as a practice-based discipline by integrating content and philosophy developed from the International Definition of a Midwife and the ANMC National Competency Standards for the Midwife and relevant midwifery codes and standards.
