Minute Repeater.

Ulysse Nardin was one of the earliest manufacturers to fuel the rebirth of the minute repeater.

The minute repeater was made even more unique through the inclusion of animated figures called “Jaquemarts” on the dial and to this day, Ulysse Nardin remains among the rare manufacture in the world to use Jaquemarts on the dial of its wristwatch minute repeaters.

Minute repeaters are universally considered some of the most difficult watches to create. While the strike train – comprised of a separate strike barrel, regulator, racks, snail cams, strikes, hammers and gongs – is complex, it is not this complexity that is the greatest challenge in creating a superb repeater. The real challenge is related to sound quality. A repeater’s song comes from the vibration of the gong when struck by the hammer and is amplified by the watch case.

Today, despite the significant advances in spark-erosion and CNC technology, minute repeaters cannot be industrialized. A repeater is as much a musical instrument as it is a timekeeper. While modern technology allows extensive scientific analysis of repeaters by measuring their decibel level, the song of a repeater – the magic that makes one repeater sound so sublime – is by nature qualitative rather than quantitative and thus is highly dependent on the human ear. For this reason each minute repeater must be individually tuned by a master watchmaker. The process can be arduous : tone is often adjusted by removing a small amount of metal from the gongs, but each time this is done the movement must be re-cased since the sound can only be properly tested when the watch is complete. There simply is no way around this. Each completed and perfectly-tuned minute repeater that leaves Ulysse Nardin is reflective of a truly massive investment in human endeavour.

Functions.

The various functions are set using the crown and the striking mechanism lever on the left-hand side of the case.

A Winding the movement : turn the crown clockwise. Approximately 12 turns will be required to wind the watch if it is stopped.

B Adjusting the hour and minute hands : pull the crown to position B. Caution : do not move the hands while the watch is chiming as

you may damage the movement.

Striking lever Used to activate the striking mechanism. Push the striking lever towards 6 o’clock to activate. Ensure that it is pushed down as far as it goes.

Caution : do not activate the striking lever again while chiming is in progress. It will take a few seconds to complete the process.

Winding the movement.

Turn the crown (in position A) until reaching an end stop. When fully wound, the power reserve is approximately 36 hours.

Setting the time.

Pull the crown to position B to set the hour and minute hands. Set the time gently and carefully by turning the hands forward or backward. If the watch is stopped, wind the movement manually to have enough power to remain in operation.

Important : do not activate the striking mechanism while setting the time in order to avoid damages on the movement.

Striking mechanism.

The Minute Repeater chimes the hours, quarters and minutes. A scene with automa-tons gives life to the dial while the movement is chiming. Depending on model, this scene represents the Jaquemarts, forgerons working on their anvil, figures of a circus (clown, monkey, tiger...) or a jungle landscape with animals.

Precision.

Precision and average daily rate depend on the activity of the person wearing the instrument. Magnetic fields (computers, mobile phones, etc.) may influence the working of a watch. Violent shocks or knocks - quite common in playing tennis or golf − should be avoided.

Because a mechanical watch is a fine piece of miniature engineering consisting of well over 200 individual parts, its precision will never match that of a quartz timepiece.

Water-resistance.

A minute repeater is an example of time-keeping art; it is not a sports watch.

Its construction was conceived to resist normal, everyday environmental stress. Normal movements, accidental splashes of water, and temperature changes will not affect the smooth running.

However violent shocks or dropping the watch on a hard surface may damage the watch. Additionally, swimming or showering must be avoided as well.

Maintenance.

All mechanical watches should have their movements cleaned and the oil replaced every 3-5 years. The life span of any mechanical timepiece will primarily depend upon both daily care and the recommended routine maintenance. A richly animated circus scene decorates the dial of this exceptional timepiece. Each of the six figures is handcarved in gold. When the minute repeater lever is activated, the monkey begins interfering in the ballgame of the clown; this movement indicates the hour chiming. The trainer with the whip reaches out to the tiger, indicating the quarters. The tiger stretches its paw, indicating the minutes. The bear bows in front of the ballet dancer while the chiming mechanism is activated.

The Safari Jaquemarts Minute Repeater is fitted with 2 cloisonné dials which give this timepiece its 3 dimensional appearance. The dials are mounted on top of each other with space in between to reveal a little fish being caught in a crocodile's jaws. Activation of the minute repeater lever causes the lion's paw to stretch forward and reach for the monkey. The monkey swings back and forth from his branch. The intricate cloisonné dial is a work of extraordinary beauty and quality.

Les fonctions.

L’activation de la sonnerie s’effectue à l’aide de la targette d’armage de la sonnerie située sur la gauche du boîtier et le réglage de l’heure s’effectue par la couronne.

A Remontage du mouvement : tournez la couronne dans le sens horaire. Si la montre est arrêtée, 12 tours environ seront nécessaires pour remonter le mouvement.

B Réglage des aiguilles des heures et des minutes : tirez la couronne en position B.

Attention : ne tournez pas les aiguilles pendant que la montre sonne car vous pourriez endommager le mouvement.

Targette Permet d'activer le mécanisme de sonnerie. Pour ce faire, poussez la tar-gette vers le bas (6 h) . Assurez vous que celle-ci est poussée à fond.

Attention : n’actionnez pas une nouvelle fois la targette tant que le mécanisme de sonnerie n’a pas terminé son cycle, ce qui peut prendre plusieurs secondes.

Remontage du mouvement.Tourner la couronne (en position A) jusqu’à son point de butée. Une fois le mécanisme remonté, la réserve de marche est de 36 heures environ.

Réglage de l'heure.Tirer la couronne en position B afin de régler les aiguilles des heures et des minutes. Le réglage de l’heure doit s’effectuer doucement, en avançant ou reculant délicatement les aiguilles. Si la montre est arrêtée, remonter le mouvement manuellement afin qu’il dispose de suffisamment d’énergie pour rester en marche.

Attention : ne pas activer le mécanisme de sonnerie pendant le réglage, afin de ne pas endommager le mouvement.

Sonnerie.La montre répétition minutes sonne les heures, les quarts et les minutes. Des auto-mates animent le cadran lorsque le mouvement sonne. Suivant le modèle, la scène représente des Jaquemarts, des forgerons oeuvrant sur leur enclume, des personnages de cirque (clown, singe, tigre...) ou un paysage de la jungle avec ses animaux.

Précision.La bonne marche et la précision d’une montre dépendent de la personne qui la porte et de son activité. Les champs magnétiques (ordinateurs, téléphones portables, etc.) peuvent influencer sa marche. Les activités, telles que tennis, golf ou toute autre qui provoqueraient des chocs violents susceptibles de desserrer certaines pièces sont à proscrire.

Une montre mécanique étant une œuvre d’ingénierie miniature composée de plus de 200 pièces, elle n’aura jamais la précision d’une montre à quartz.

Etanchéité.Une montre répétition minutes est un exemple d’expertise horlogère, et non une montre de sport.

Elle a été conçue pour résister aux efforts et aux chocs légers d’un environnement quotidien normal. Les mouvements normaux, les projections accidentelles d’eau et les variations de température n’affectent pas le bon fonctionnement.

Néanmoins, cette montre peut être endommagée par des chocs violents, ou en cas de chute sur une surface dure. Il est en outre déconseillé de la porter pour se baigner ou se doucher.

Entretien.Pour toute montre mécanique, il convient de faire nettoyer et huiler le mouvement tous les 3 à 5 ans. La longévité d’une montre mécanique dépend essentiellement du soin quotidiennement apporté et du respect des recommandations d’entretien. Une scène de cirque richement animée orne le cadran de ce modèle exceptionnel. Chacune des figurines est taillée dans l’or, à la main. Lorsque le mécanisme de répétition est activé, le singe intervient dans le jeu de jonglage du clown marquant ainsi les heures. Jaquemarts animés

La Safari Jaquemarts Répétition Minutes comprend deux cadrans cloisonnés super-posés qui confère un aspect tridimensionnel à cette montre d'exception. Les deux cadrans sont assemblés de manière à laisser une place suffisante entre eux pour permettre au poisson de s’élancer dans la gueule du crocodile. Lorsque le mécanisme de répétition est activé, la patte du lion se porte en avant, vers le singe. Le singe se balance sur sa branche d’avant en arrière. Le travail d’émaillage cloisonné est d’une beauté rare et d’une qualité exceptionnelle.

Funktionen.

Die verschiedenen Funktionen werden über die Krone und den Schlagwerkhebel an der linken Gehäuseseite eingestellt.

A Werkaufzug : Krone im Uhrzeigersinn drehen. Bei Stillstand der Uhr sind ungefähr 12 Umdrehungen nötig, um sie aufzuziehen.

B Zum Einstellen des Stunden- und Minutenzeigers die Krone bis zur Position B herausziehen.

Wichtig : die Zeiger nicht bewegen, während die Uhr schlägt, weil sonst das Werk beschädigt werden kann.

Schlaghebel Dient der Aktivierung des Schlagwerks. Zum Aktivieren den Schlag-hebel gegen 6 Uhr schieben. Er muss so weit wie möglich nach unten geschoben werden.

Wichtig : den Schlaghebel nicht erneut aktivieren, während die Uhr schlägt. Dieser Vorgang kann einige Sekunden dauern.

Werkaufzug.Krone (in Position A) drehen, bis es nicht mehr geht. Voll aufgezogen hat die Uhr eine Gangreserve von ungefähr 36 Stunden.

Zeiteinstellung.Zum Einstellen des Stunden- und Minutenzeigers die Krone bis zur Position B heraus-ziehen. Die Zeit behutsam durch Vor- oder Zurückdrehen der Zeiger einstellen. Bei Stillstand der Uhr das Werk von Hand aufziehen, damit es genügend Energie hat, um in Betrieb zu bleiben.

Wichtig : das Schlagwerk nicht aktivieren, während die Zeit eingestellt wird, weil sonst das Werk beschädigt werden kann.

Schlagwerk.Die Minutenrepetition schlägt die Stunden, Viertelstunden und Minuten. Eine Szene mit Automaten belebt das Zifferblatt, während das Werk schlägt. Je nach Modell kann es sich dabei um Jaquemarts, Schmiede am Amboss, Zirkusfiguren (Clown, Affe, Tiger ...) oder eine Dschungellandschaft mit Tieren handeln.

Präzision.Die Präzision und durchschnittliche Tagesleistung hängen von der Aktivität der Person ab, welche das Instrument trägt. Magnetfelder (Computer, Mobiltelefone usw.) können den Lauf der Uhr beeinflussen. Kräftige Schläge und Stöße, wie sie beim Tennis- und Golfspiel geläufig sind, sollten vermieden werden, um zu verhindern, dass Werkteile durch Schütteln gelockert werden.

Weil mechanische Uhren Meisterstücke der Mikromechanik sind, mit mehr als 200 Einzelteilen, können sie niemals die Präzision von Quarzuhren erreichen.

Wasserdichtigkeit.Die Minutenrepetieruhr verkörpert die Kunst der Zeitmessung; sie ist keine Sportuhr.

Sie ist so konzipiert, dass sie normalen, alltäglichen Umweltbelastungen standhält. Normale Bewegungen, versehentliche Wasserspritzer sowie Temperaturwechsel beeinträchtigen das reibungslose Funktionieren nicht.

Bei kräftigen Schlägen oder Fallen auf einen harten Untergrund kann die Uhr jedoch Schaden nehmen. Zudem sind Schwimmen und Duschen zu vermeiden.

Wartung.Bei mechanischen Uhren sollten alle 3 bis 5 Jahre das Uhrwerk gereinigt und das Öl gewechselt werden. Die Lebensdauer eines mechanischen Zeitmessers hängt in erster Linie von der täglichen Pflege und der Durchführung der empfohlenen Wartungsmaß-nahmen ab. Die Automaten der Minutenrepetition sind drei Jacks, die mit Hämmern auf die Glocken einschlagen. Dadurch sind die Viertelstunden leicht von den Minuten zu unterscheiden. Eine prächtig gestaltete animierte Zirkusszene schmückt das Zifferblatt dieses einzigartigen Zeitmessers. Jede der sechs Figuren wurde in Handarbeit aus Gold gefertigt. Wenn der Minutenrepetitions-Hebel aktiviert wird, beginnt der Affe, in das Ballspiel des Clowns einzugreifen; diese Bewegung zeigt den Stundenschlag an. Der Dompteur mit der Peitsche bewegt sich zum Tiger hin und zeigt so die Viertelstunden an. Der Tiger streckt seine Pfote aus und zeigt so die Minuten an. Der Bär verneigt sich bei aktiviertem Schlagwerk vor der Balletttänzerin.

Die Safari Jaquemarts Minute Repeater besitzt zwei Zellenschmelz-Zifferblätter, denen dieser Zeitmesser sein dreidimensionales Erscheinungsbild verdankt. Die Zifferblätter sind übereinander montiert, mit einem Zwischenraum, in dem ein kleiner Fisch zu sehen ist, der im Rachen eines Krokodils landet. Bei Aktivierung des Minutenrepetitions-Hebels streckt sich die Tatze des Löwen nach vorne zum Affen hin. Der Affe hängt am Ast und schwingt hin und her. Funciones.

Las distintas funciones se configuran utilizando la corona y la palanca del mecanismo de sonería situada en la parte izquierda de la caja.

A Para dar cuerda al movimiento : gire la corona en el sentido de la rotación horaria. Si el reloj se ha detenido, necesitará darle aproxi-madamente 12 vueltas.

Palanca de sonería Se utiliza para activar el mecanismo de sonería. Apriétela hacia las 6 horas para activar el mecanismo. Asegúrese de apretarla hasta que no pueda más.

Atención : no vuelva a accionar la palanca mientras el reloj esté sonando. Hacen falta unos segundos para completar el proceso.

Dar cuerda al movimiento.Haga girar la corona (en la posición A) hasta que no pueda más. Tras darle cuerda al máximo, el reloj tendrá una reserva de marcha aproximada de 36 horas.

Cambiar la hora.Sitúe la corona en la posición B para ajustar las manecillas de las horas y de los minutos. Ajuste la hora girando suavemente y con cuidado las agujas hacia adelante o hacia atrás. En caso de que el reloj se haya detenido, dé cuerda al movimiento manualmente para contar con la reserva de marcha suficiente para que siga funcionando.

Importante: no active el mecanismo de sonería mientras esté ajustando la hora para no dañar el movimiento.

Sonería.El mecanismo de repetición de minutos marca las horas, los cuartos y los minutos. Una escena con autómatas anima la esfera mientras el movimiento está sonando. La escena representada varía según el modelo: en ella pueden aparecer los Jaquemarts, herreros golpeando un yunque, figuras características del circo (un payaso, un mono, un tigre, etc.) o un paisaje selvático con animales.

Precisión.La precisión y la marcha diaria media dependen de la actividad del portador del reloj. Los campos magnéticos (ordenadores, teléfonos móviles, etc.) pueden interferir en el funcionamiento de un reloj. Asimismo, hay que evitar los golpes o choques (muy habituales al jugar al tenis o al golf) a fin de evitar que determinados componentes se aflojen.Un reloj mecánico es una pieza de ingeniería en miniatura formada por más de 200 compo-nentes distintos, por lo cual su precisión nunca será igual que la de un reloj de cuarzo.

Resistencia al agua.El mecanismo de repetición de minutos no es un mero reloj deportivo, sino una auténtica muestra del arte de la relojería.

Además, está diseñado para soportar los rigores del uso cotidiano. Los movimientos normales, las salpicaduras accidentales de agua y los cambios de temperatura no afectarán al correcto funcionamiento del reloj.

En cambio, los golpes violentos y los impactos contra superficies duras pueden provocar daños. Asimismo, debe quitarse el reloj para nadar y para ducharse.

Mantenimiento.Todos los relojes mecánicos requieren la limpieza de los mecanismos y la sustitución del aceite con una periodicidad de 3-5 años. La vida útil de cualquier artículo de relo-jería mecánico dependerá en gran medida tanto del cuidado diario como del man-tenimiento periódico recomendado. La esfera de este reloj excepcional está decorada con una animada escena circense. Todas las figuras de la escena están esculpidas a mano en oro. El Safari Jaquemarts Minute Repeater cuenta con dos esferas alveoladas que le dan un aspecto tridimensional. Las esferas están colocadas una encima de la otra, y entre ellas queda un espacio donde se observa a un cocodrilo capturando a un pececito entre sus mandíbulas. Al accionarse la palanca del mecanismo de repetición de minutos, la garra del león se extiende para atrapar al mono, que oscila de un lado hacia el otro colgado de una rama. Esta intrincada esfera alveolada es una obra de gran belleza y calidad.

Funzioni.

Le diverse funzioni sono impostate per mezzo della corona e della leva del mecca-nismo di suoneria sulla sinistra della cassa.

A Carica del movimento : ruotare la corona in senso orario. Saranno necessari circa 12 giri per caricare l’orologio se questo è fermo.

B Regolazione delle lancette delle ore e dei minuti : tirare la corona portandola in posizione B.

Attenzione : non spostare le lancette mentre l’orologio suona, perché il movimento potrebbe essere danneggiato.

Leva della suoneria Utilizzato per attivare il meccanismo di suoneria. Premere la leva della suoneria in verso le ore 6 per attivarla. Assicurarsi che sia premuta verso il basso fino in fondo.

Attenzione : non attivare la leva della suoneria mentre l’orologio suona. La suoneria dura pochi secondi.

Carica del movimento.Ruotare la corona (in posizione A) fino alla posizione di arresto. Quando l’orologio è completamente carico, la riserva di carica è di circa 36 ore.

Regolazione dell’ora.Tirare la corona portandola in posizione B prima di regolare le lancette delle ore e dei minuti. Regolare l’ora delicatamente e con precauzione girando le lancette in avanti o indietro. Se l’orologio è fermo, caricare il movimento manualmente, affinché abbia abbastanza carica per rimanere in funzione.

Importante : non attivare il meccanismo di carica durante la regolazione dell'ora per evitare danni al movimento.

Suoneria.La Ripetizione Minuti batte le ore, i quarti e i minuti. Una scena con degli automi dà vita al quadrante mentre il movimento suona. In funzione del modello, la scena rappresenta i “Mori”, i fabbri ferrai che lavorano sull’incudine, i personaggi di un circo (clown, scimmia, tigre, ecc.) o un paesaggio di una giungla con animali.

Precisione.La precisione e lo scarto giornaliero dipendono dall’attività della persona che indossa l’orologio. I campi magnetici (computer, telefoni cellulari, ecc.) possono incidere sul funzionamento dell’orologio. Gli urti o i colpi violenti – abbastanza comuni in sport come tennis o golf − devono essere evitati per prevenire movimenti che possono allentare certe componenti.

Poiché un orologio meccanico è un pezzo raffinato di ingegneria in miniatura che consiste in molto più di 200 componenti individuali, la sua precisione non sarà mai equivalente a quella di un orologio al quarzo.

Impermeabilità.Una ripetizione minuti è un esempio di arte dei segnatempo, non è un orologio sportivo.

La sua costruzione è stata concepita per resistere al normale stress ambientale quotidiano. I consueti movimenti, gli schizzi accidentali di acqua e i cambiamenti di temperatura non incidono sul normale funzionamento.

Tuttavia urti violenti o su superfici dure possono danneggiare l’orologio. Inoltre, è bene evitare di nuotare o fare la doccia quando si indossa l’orologio.

Manutenzione.Tutti gli orologi meccanici devono essere sottoposti a una pulizia del movimento e alla sostituzione del lubrificante ogni 3-5 anni. La durata di vita di qualunque orologio meccanico dipenderà soprattutto dalla cura quotidiana e dalla manutenzione di routine suggerita. La Ripetizione minuti del Safari Jaquemarts animato è dotata di due quadranti cloisonné che conferiscono a questo segnatempo un’apparenza tridimensionale. I quadranti sono montati uno sopra l’altro con uno spazio tra loro che rivela un pesciolino mangiato da un coccodrillo. Attivando la leva della ripetizione minuti, la zampa del leone si allunga in avanti a toccare la scimmia. La scimmia dondola avanti e indietro dal suo ramo. Минутный репетир отбивает часы, четверти часа и минуты. Во время боя на циферблате оживают движущиеся фигурки. В зависимости от модели это могут быть жакемары, кузнецы у наковальни, выступающие на цирковой арене клоун, обезьянка, тигр и т.д. или животные в джунглях.

Вместе с тем, резкие удары или падения на твердую поверхность могут повредить часы. Кроме того, не рекомендуется плавать и принимать душ в часах.

оБслуживание

Любой часовой механизм требует очистки и замены смазки каждые 3-5 лет. Срок службы механических часов зависит от ежедневного ухода и техниче-ского обслуживания. Циферблат этих уникальных часов изображает цирковую арену, заполненную артистами и животными. Каждая из шести фигурок вручную вырезана из золота. При включении рычагом механизма боя обезьянка начинает вмешиваться в жонглирование клоуна; при этом своими движениями она отбивает часы. Дрессировщик замахивается хлыстом на тигра, отбивая четверти.
