I attempted it but I thought it looked better at a normal angle – I didn’t want to over do it. I inserted a circle like shape using the ‘ Eclipse’ tool . I used this to mimic a similar style to ‘Kerrang’ – because they have a similar target audience and genre and are successful I thought it would be wise to use my style models approach. It makes the title stand out too. I used dafont for the text – ‘gothic, modern, metal lord’ I screenshot and pasted it onto a new Photoshop document, I used the crop tool to remove the rest of the page; I used the magic wand tool to remove the white areas and dragged it onto my contents page. I decided to put them in circles so they stand out and draw more attention as they’re important aspect of the contents page. I inserted a circle via the ‘Eclipse’ tool I added an electric blue stroke , that was quite thick to enclose the page number and highlight it. Main ImageThe main image went exactly how I planned. You now it’s the main image due to its positioning right under the main title.

I dragged the image from my files into the document. I added a stroke – to act as a border as this is a convention. I added a caption, used colour overlay to change the default colour to

white. I used text shaping tools with the ‘New band’ to make it arch over the

image to highlight it.

Page NumbersI changed my mind with the page numbers as initially I planned to have them at the end of an ellipses like with a lot of magazines. I decided to put them in circles so they stand out and draw more attention as they’re important aspect of the contents page. I inserted a circle via the ‘Eclipse’ tool I added an electric blue stroke, that was quite

thick to enclose the page number and highlight it. I inserted text in “STENCIL” – I have used this

font type a number of times in order to keep the consistency of the magazines and form a house style.

I used the keyboard arrow keys to move the page numbers into the circles

I duplicated the layers so that I didn’t have to repeat the process over and then renamed the layers and changed the page numbers each time.

I linked the layers (the text an circle) so that if anything needs moving everything could move. I had gotten into a habit of doing this because it really helped and saved time.

For the page numbers over the images I used a square tool instead and larger text – this is because they conventionally should stand out more than the other page numbers as it goes with a illustrated article.

Contents Page – Skills and Tools Main titleSlightly different from my intial plan as I intended for the text to be at an angle but changed it so it was straight. I attempted it but I thought it looked better at a normal angle – I didn’t want to over do it. I inserted a circle like shape using the ‘ Eclipse’

tool. I used this to mimic a similar style to ‘Kerrang’ – because they have a similar target audience and genre and are successful I thought it would be wise to use my style models approach. It makes the title stand out too.

I used dafont for the text – ‘gothic, modern, metal lord’

I screenshot and pasted it onto a new Photoshop document, I used the crop tool to remove the rest of the page; I used the magic wand tool to remove the white areas and dragged it onto my contents page. By now I’m used to this method and so feel confident with this.

Both the circle and text have a drop shadow and stroke – this is to separate them both and for them to contrast each other.
