Message from Designated

Institutional Official My heartiest congratulations to all graduands and award recipients! Tonight

we celebrate the graduation of SingHealth’s fifth cohort of Residents and

recognise the achievements of outstanding Clinician Scientist Residents, as

well as House Officers in the SingHealth Best Junior Doctors Awards 2019.

Graduands, as you embark on your journey as specialists, always bear in

mind to keep patients at the heart of all you do. Being a doctor is a

privilege, so we must practise Medicine right. Not only should we uphold

the highest standards of honesty, integrity and professionalism in all that

we do, we must never forget to keep our patients’ interest as our

topmost priority.

With the Residency training that you have gone through, I believe that all

of you stand in good stead to shape the future of healthcare and effect the

changes that can truly improve patients’ lives.

While your training has equipped you with the

core competencies required for practice, I

encourage you to embrace lifelong learning and

continuously upkeep your knowledge and skills

in Medicine. Keep improving yourself to better

serve your patients.

Having gone through the “thick and thin” of

your training, I am certain many of you have

developed strong camaraderie with your

peers. Continue to grow those friendships,

expand your network and forge stronger ties.

Remember that the medical practice is a

team game, which requires collaboration with

colleagues to achieve the best outcome

possible.

I wish you all the best in your future in

Medicine!

Message from Valedictorian,

SingHealth Residency 2019

Dr Tess Lin Teo

Emergency Medicine

Valedictorian,

SingHealth Residency 2019

To all the graduating Residents of 2019 - guys, we made it. Congratulations

on finally finishing Residency!

During my time in Residency, I have come to realise that what we leave

behind are what those who follow after will receive. In Emergency

Medicine, there are very few constants. Everything is changing, everything

is moving on. Amidst the chaos of the emergency department, how do you

find your way? Well, you walk in somebody else’s footprints until the time

you are confident enough to leave your own behind.

As we start out as newly minted Associate Consultants, we are just about

ready to start leaving our own footprints in the sand. And whilst we may be

the most junior in our departments now, I believe that we can still do

something to make the road a little easier for the

ones who come after us.

On behalf of all Residents, I’d like to express our

deepest gratitude to all Faculty and seniors who

gave us tutorials, shared their advice and helped

us along our way towards the finishing line.

13

A huge thank you to all the programme

executives, coordinators, GME office and admin staff for putting up with all of us and

our antics. Without each and every one of

you, I don’t think any of us would have our

completed Residency training!

I wish my fellow graduands all the best

in your careers!

Physician’s Pledge

The Pledge, based on the Hippocratic Oath and on the Declaration of Geneva, was adopted in 1984 by the World Medical Association. It has been drafted to reflect the practice of Medicine today , to remind doctors of their responsibility to their patients and the medical profession.

(Please stand and raise your right hand to affirm the Physician’s Pledge)

“I solemnly pledge to:

dedicate my life to the service of humanity;

give due respect and gratitude to my teachers;

practise my profession with conscience and dignity;

make the health of my patient my first consideration;

respect the secrets which are confided in me;

uphold the honour and noble traditions of the medical profession;

respect my colleagues as my professional brothers and sisters;

not allow the consideration of race, religion, nationality or social

standing

to intervene between my duty and my patient;

maintain due respect for human life;

use my medical knowledge in accordance with the laws of humanity;

comply with the provisions of the Ethical Code; and

constantly strive to add to my knowledge and skill.

I make these promises solemnly, freely and upon my honour.”
