On completion ofMaster of Public healthprogrammes, the student should have a foundation in thescience and art of public health, including an understanding of the concepts of health and disease, and

factors which may affect these.Master of Public healthresulting knowledge, skills and attitudesshould enable them to put public health principles into effect in a variety of settings including research

and practice.


Master of Public HealthProgramme objectives

Master of Public healthprogrammes will enable students to understand the principles and practice of

public health through the development, integration and application of:

knowledge and understanding in the main disciplines of public health, to include: statistics, epi-demiology, social sciences, information and communication technology, management, health

promotion, health protection and health economics.Master of Public healthaddition, an ap-

preciation of other subjects of relevance to public health will be provided, including policy de-

velopment;

skills which are required for the practice of public health, to include: use of information technol-ogy, quantitative and qualitative research methods, analysis and interpretation of data and in-

formation, critical appraisal and reasoning, strategic management, creative problem solving,

multidisciplinary team working, effective written and oral communication;

the knowledge and competence to cope with the changing demands of public health, and forSpecialist Registrars and Public Health Associates, the ability to demonstrate those competen-

Program Destination for Master of Public Health

TheMaster of Public health(MS) program objective is to prepare students to be in the frontier helping

to improve the health of a community and or targeted population through education, promotion, re-

search and disease prevention. The Master of Public Health program is offered online via distance learn-

ing. After evaluating both academic record and life experience, AIU staff working in conjunction with

Faculty and Academic Advisors will assist students in setting up a custom-made program, designed on an

individual basis. This flexibility to meet student needs is seldom found in other distance learning pro-

grams. Our online program does not require all students to take the same subjects/courses, use the

same books, or learning materials. Instead, the onlineMaster of Public healthcurriculum is designed

individually by the student and academic advisor. It specifically addresses strengths and weaknesses

with respect to market opportunities in the students major and intended field of work. Understandingthat industry and geographic factors should influence the content of the curriculum instead of a stand-

ardized one-fits-all design is the hallmark of AIUs unique approach to adult education.

TheMaster of Public healthprogramme is a coursework programme in which the credit hour for theresearch component comprises less than thirty (30) percent of the whole programme of study. After

completion of the relevant programme of study specified in this Schedule, a candidate shall be eligible

for the award of the Master of Public Health degree.

Structure of programme

Master of Public healthmedium of instruction for this course is English and candidates are requiredto complete their assignments, reports, tests and examination in English. The candidate will follow a

program of in-house instruction in General Public Health.
