Mastery Performance Style
Student knows the
name of the skills.
Student can
somewhere mimic the
movement without a
rope.
Has a general idea of
steps required to
learn the skill.
Can perform the
skill at least one
time.
Can perform the skill with
the basic bounce first, then
performing the skill 3 times,
then returning to the basic
bounce.
Student performs the skill with
perfect posture, eyes forward, and
smiling. (While mastering the skills)
Linking Combining Creativity Fitness
Can perform the skill,
basic bounce, then go
to another skill.Alternatively can go
straight from move
into another move
without basic bounce
in between.
Can perform the
skill with another
skill (I.E Jacksand Crosses, or
One foot hop
and skier)
Can create a combination or
linking series of their own.
Can do the skill xxx number of
times in 15 sec. 30 sec.
These additional development phases for learning a skill can add interest for your students. These
challenges ultimately create a more fluid "jumper". These suggestions are great for self regulated
learners. There is no real instruction required, just suggestions you can offer to an eager student.
Ropeworks Skill Development first FOUR phases
4 Major Quality Skill Development Phases (Single Rope Skills) by Rene Bibaud
Offering these 4 phases of development will provide an educator with challenges for each student,
depending on the level that they are starting from. Just about every single rope skill can be made more
challenging by simply offering one of these quality stages to your student.

Perform a cross with skill being
performed.
Add a double under to the skill being
performed.
Eyes Closed Vary the Speed Vary the Pathway In Unision with Another Person
Like it sounds. Try this skillwith your eyes closed.
Try it going hotpeppers or slowing
it way down.
Try zig zag, clockwise, counter-clockwise, triangle etc.
Work to jump in time with a partnerand do the skill at the same time. Do
it a few times together if you are able.
Use some form of counting system to
establish your timing.
These challenges are offered as additional options beyond the first four.
Add On Challenges
First Four Add On Challenges to offer your students
Offer these fundamental add on challenges first. Be certain all studetns become aware of these options and take
responsibility for implementing challenges when they feel ready. Encourage students to review the Performance Qualtiy
Layers on their own, when considering add on challenges. They should try and master a skill before adding a challenge, but
they may choose a challenge if they feel so inclined. Always return to the fundamental skill for a time, and refocus students
on the concept of mastery and performance style.

Freestyle
OBJECTIVE Instruction Additional Layer
Set induction Show moderately elaborate freestyle
routine. Can be video, teacher, or prior
student.
Establishing
guidelines.
1. Choose 3 skills you can do well.
2. Perform each skill 3 times.
3. Create an ending pose.
1. Choose more than 3 skills if you feel
ready.
OBJECTIVE Instruction Additional Layer
Review parameters 3 Skills, 3x's, ending pose. Practice. Add more skills when ready.
Adding on - Try to perform the routine with no
mistakes.
- Add two more skills when ready.
Try to choose skills from each
category:
Arm Action
Footwork
Rope Manipulation
Turns
Strength Move
OBJECTIVE Instruction Additional Layer
Review Parameters 3-5 Skills, 3x's, ending pose. Practice.
Choose a variety of skill types.
Work to master your routine.
When performing alongside others, wait
patiently in a resting pose, when you are
done.
Can you have perfect poster?

Performance practice
(if prepping for an end
of year show)
Allow students to demonstrate their
routines to one another.
SERIES ONE

Adding on (working
on mastery and
precision)
- You may add more skills if you wish.
-Work toward mastery of the routine:
- Remembering the routine in the
correct order.
- Being consistent about the number of
each skill each time.
- Can you do the routine most of the
time with no more than 2 mistakes?
Add more variety to your routine:
-Backward
-Combination skills (2 or more skills
combined to create a new move)
-Moving through space
-Acrobatic pose or move.
-Remove basic bounce between
some skills.
-Create a move unique to you.
OBJECTIVE Instruction Additional Layer
Performance Prep - Divide class into groups (3-5 kids per
group)
- Choose spots on floor for the
performance. One for each child per group
(3-5 spots)- Have group one stand and go to
performance spots.
- Ask group one to:
Do your routine.
Hold end pose 3 seconds.
Wait in resting pose for all others to
finish.
When all others finish, all run off in
a single file line to the.... (far right, far left...
a direction away from the oncoming group)
Have each group trying the same
thing.
8/12/2019 Content for Cards
24/41
Notes
- This is the eventual goal.
- Freestyle is your opportunity
to be creative, and work onsomething unique to only you.
1. If you already have a
freestyle, build on it and choose
more skills.
2. There can be exceptions to
the "perform each skill 3 times.
This is a general rule.
3. Try to be creative in your
ending pose.
Notes
Notes
The additional layer suggested
here is for practicing for a
performance. This will helps
kids become aware of their
teammates, spacing and
appropriate behavior during a
peers performance.
Teacher will likely need to
monitor the room for full
comprehension.
Challenge older and
returning students to build
on prior rourtines.
Challenge returning
students to master their
routine with limited
mistakes.
Start playing a variety of
music. Start finding out
what kind of music the kids
enjoy jumping to.
8/12/2019 Content for Cards
25/41
Notes
Use music as a mnemonic
device: When all kids in a group
finish and are in resting pose,
change music to help remind
them to run off (and for nextgroup to run on)
Repetition is the key to
creating a seemless show.
Run the groups in their
order a few times to be sure
each child knows which
group they are in

Progression Sheets (Associated to Routine Posters)The Routine Progression Sheets give students the opportunity to measure their progress. These sheets also allow
students to progress at their own speed and to challenge themselves at appropriate skill levels. The difficulty levels
increase through four levels. They also correspond to the appropriate Routine Poster Provided by Ropeworks.
Students will get a star on their card after they have gotten signatures from classmates, and shown the teacher.
They can only do the routine in class, (during group routine practice) that corresponds to the card level they are
To use the Routine Progression Sheets: Give each student a copy of Progression Sheet.
Have students practice the skills beginning with the first level (currently Lil Skipper). Once a student is able to
perform the skill the determined number of times, have him or her initial the blank next to the skill.
Have each student show the skill to a classmate. If successful, have the classmate initial the skill under Observer's

Mastery check When a student feels he or she is ready to move to the next level, the student is to report to the
teacher who asks the student to perform any three of the skills listed. If the skills are performed correctly and
successfully, the student is encouraged to move to the next level. If the skills have not been mastered, the student
