Veritas integrates the technology of Autonomy
Duesseldorf - Veritas (http://www.veritas.com) has in-tegrated, within the framework of an OEM agreementthe technology of Autonomy(http://www.autonomy.com) in the Veritas lifecycledata managers 5.0. The new product of the provider ofStorage-software is supposed to broaden the data secu-rity in order to suffice for the requirements of Compli-ance and legal quarrels. With the developed patternrecognition software of Autonomy customers of Veritascan browse concept based E-Mail and appendixes inmore than 300 formats (as for example Word, Excel, portable document format and HTML files), at whichthe technology is based on a conceptual sense, unlike acatchword based Herangehensweise, and wants to sup-ply more suitable results from that. (ERROR RATE)
PROJECT CONSULT Comment:Also Veritas, last dealt with in Newsletter 20040121, orien-tates more and more into the enterprise content manage-ment, ILM and DMS rung. While Veritas - and also IBM -are rather speaking of lifecycle management DLM Data, therest of the sector is lifecycle management in this case amongILM Information the market for Archiving- and to defineStorageloesungen again. A further driving strength is thenew catchword Compliance that they all run after in theUSA. The pressure, to offer here appropriate solutions in-creases itself with all storage management system and mid-dleware providers. Through the cooperation with Autonomy, last dealt with in Newsletter 20030807, a product portfoliothat is supposed to allow Veritas is supposed to be created atshort notice to keep up to send in this in a strongly awakeway market segment. Limited company structure with icoya OpenCon-tent Version 2.5
Stuttgart - With the multilingual solution icoya Open-Content of the structure limited company(http://www.struktur.de) users are supposed to ma-nage all documents and dates in enterprises andauthorities and to be able to optimize information pro-cesses. In addition the solution offers an illustration ofinformation and job races. With the icoya OpenContentCCM it keeps on being supposed to be possible, infor-mation processes, to be begun from the intranet with acentral document management about the project job upto internet portals, to manage only in a system.(ERRORRATE)
PROJECT CONSULT Comment:With the new product the limited company structure movesmore and more from the environment of the writeable controlmemory into the enterprise content management. Intranetsand portals are the starting point for workflow and docu-ment management of classical stamp. The product has to

serve with some innovations: Collaboration functionality, linkage of a signature server, improved multilingual surfa-ces. Whether this suffices in the narrow becoming competiti-on in the CMS market the future must exist first still toshow. Too many other providers attempt currently the sameway to go. More and more functionality leads increasinglymore complex products that glide to providers as user thenfrom the hands. (Kff)
Serena buys Merant
San Mateo/Hillsboro - The Software Manufacturer Serena(http://www.serena.com) has taken over for about 380million dollars his rival Merant(http://www.merant.com). Serena, with 350 employ-ees, becomes the worldwide second-tallest provider ofEnterprise Change through the incorporation of Merant, with 540 employees, according to own informationmanagement solutions. With that the products of theenterprise will be future with in total 15.000 customersin the commitment. The previous annual turnoveramounted in 2003 to 225 million dollars. (ERRORRATE)
PROJECT CONSULT Comment:Both enterprises do not belong in Germany to the bestknown providers of their respective spectrum. So this Mer-ger is also rather discussed in the USA. Serena attempts tofind the connection to the group of enterprise content man-agement providers dropping itself off there. However alsotogether with Merant may Serena into the column "underferner ran" fall. Serena positions itself as a typical CMSprovider and has some especially in the host area offer whatthe competition lacks. Meanwhile Serena incorporated mar-keting activities also in Germany. When a common productspectrum is to be reckoned by Serena and Merant was notbetrayed yet. (Kff)
Documentum buys AskOnce
Munich - The enterprise content management solutionprovider Documentum ()http://www.documentum.dethe acquisition of the askOnce solution of Xerox gave()http://www.xerox.de known. askOnce is supposed todisplay in future the enterprise content integrationcomponent of the Virtual Repository-Loesung of Docu-mentum.
Documentum announced manager the availability of thenew Documentum Compliance ferner. Together with theDocumentum platform enterprise content managementis supposed to support managers to enterprises thenew Compliance based on the manager DocumentumControl, to keep to legal specifications and enterpriserequirements during the entire content lifecycle. TheCompliance Manager is supposed to facilitate amongother things the control of accesses, authentication, ar-chiving, date revision, electronic signatures. (AM)
PROJECT CONSULT Comment:
Documentum, last dealt with in Newsletter 20040315, is inlast time more frequent in the headlines, however, that onewas paid attention Deal with Xerox little. He has several as-pects: On the one hand it shows that the technology clear-ance sale goes on at XEROX to the Second, that Documentumkept a great self-sufficiency and keeps on practicing a prod-uct politics, stand-alone of EMC. To the third parties Docu-mentum with AskOnce gained a tested Retrieval component.AskOnce is supposed to be used also for receiving the wantedresults in different Repositories with a single query. AskOn-ce is also one of the key components for integrators withthat. In Punkto Compliance Documentum follows the generaltrend. Already on the AIIM Show in New York (see newslet-ter 20040315) Compliance was to be defined as one of thenew trends. For Compliance there is not up to now yet anysensible "one word" -translation. At PROJECT CONSULTwe speak of that of the "match and compliance of legal andregulativer specifications". Compliance reads in in the USAbig role. The most important providers from the enterprisecontent management environment as IBM, FileNet, Hum-mingbird etc. tied up also so-called "Compliance-Packages",that combine previous products from the environment re-cords management, e-mail archiving, document manage-ment etc.. In Germany the term "Compliance" "did not ar-rive" yet, that is. Most enterprises do not know anythingwith the term begin. Therefore also marketing measures havecurrently no effect. A typical Compliance-question in Ger-many is after all the compliance of the GDPdU, is not posi-tioned, however, so. (Kff)
Betrusted buys TC TrustCenter
Hamburg - That of Commerzbank, bank German, Dresd-ner bank and Bavarian Hypo- and association bankfounded TC TrustCenter ()http://www.trustcenter.debecame from Betrusted (),http://www.betrusted.com aworldwide provider of security and trust service forenterprises and government authorities, taken over.Betrusted, a to the BankOne ()http://www.bankone.combelonging enterprise, offers numerous security pro-ducts, as well as solutions, with which the customerscan carry out a dependable inspection of the authenti-city as well as the integrity of dates or persons. (AM)
PROJECT CONSULT Comment:This investment of the Betrusted could mean a new batch forthe circulation of digital signatures. With the entrance ofBetrusted the market reaches maybe the crucial mass whichis necessary in order to get into the perception of potentialcustomers. The move of Betrusted sets the previous providersof trust centers under pressure. Because behind Betrustednobody stands different than one of the worldwide biggestbanks, the BankOne, does. This buys up trust centers forsome time, to have the trust centers still relatively favorablythere due to the small circulation of digital signatures are. That will soon change itself, however. In the USA digitalsignatures have already another significance than in Ger-many, where only the German mail, the Telekom andDATEV maintained trust centers up to now. (AM)

System beta's data systems technology smallservice buys
Berlin - That system beta's the small service limitedcompany (http://www.kleindienst.de) bought 51,31 %of the capital stock for software limited company(http://www.betasystems.de) kuerzlich. System beta'ssplit up furthermore, that she will present an offer forthe acquisition of the remaining ones to the remainingstockholders. An entire purchase price of 30 million €would arise for stocks with the buying up all re-mained. (ERROR RATE)
PROJECT CONSULT Comment:The consolidation in the DRT-market goes on. System beta's,last dealt with in Newsletter 20031021, with the limitedcompany small service has, last dealt with in Newsletter20040219, done a good grip. From the size and the companyculture the two enterprises might suit. Also the productportfolios complement themselves. During beta system'smerits in the output management, can dot small service inthe information Capture has. Both houses have own archiv-ing system solutions. Here a consolidation is still necessary. In the case of small service also the question must be asked, which becomes from the front Office solution and other com-ponents which are based on FileNet. Also in the COLD-areasome overlapping is available. Beta system's and to hopesmall service through to reach this meeting an ausreichendesize and portfolio covering in order to keep on being able toplay in the enterprise content management market in future.

AIIM market analyses 2003
Hamburg - In the course of the last year the AIIM led()http://www.aiim.org a series of inquiries through. We already reported about the individual results (seenewsletter 20040121). Now we summarized the resultsfrom all inquiries. The inquiries were executed among1842 final users by Document-Related-Technologies(DRT), among other things during the series of semi-nars AIIM Content Management, management AIIM In-formation of Expo and DMS.
Study extent
The six studies were executed at intervals of approx. 7months. The questions were always the same ones ex-cept small national specifications. It is not, however, that that one was perception of the terms in all count-ries identical to start from that. The answers are onlyrestrictedly comparable from that.

Most important results at a glance
In this first part we will occupy ourselves with the fol-lowing countries: USA, Germany and Great Britain. Inthe second part in the next newsletter goes to summa-rize it around Brazil, Canada and Ireland as well as oneview.

Here shows, that in the English-speaking room the to-pic is more important records management than forexample in Germany, where in 1993 an emphasis to themanagement of technical documents had formed. Thedocument control topic is, however, in all three count-ries of one of the most important factors for the in-vestment in enterprise content management althoughit is to be stated here that very different topics aremeant by document control. In the USA Compliance ishere subsumed certainly, wohingegen in Europe rathertraditional DMS- and writeable control memory func-tionality combined with workflow is meant. The sur-vey also shows, however, that the main trends hardlyyet distinguished in the three fields.
Rankings of the individual project emphases tocountry (Selection from 22 areas)
In this table 22 asked areas and their importance are inthe respective country listed with their percentage (thehigher the value, the more important the topic). Themanagement of technical documents (accidental?)finds itself like this for example in Germany on spaceone, in the other two countries the users seem to holdthis aspect for rather less important.

According to the investment focus the AIIM-studiesdistinguished three different groups from users: Usersthat invest cost savings with the goal rather to attemptsuch that one Business- and to avoid regulative risks, and those users that invest customer service improve-ment or Customer relationship in enterprise contentmanagement with the focus.

In the examined countries, particularly in the USA, theheight of the job sum lies frequently among $100.000,at what in Great Britain (21 %) and in Germany (18 %)clear more projects show a volume of over $1.000.000than in the USA, where only 11 % of all projects exceedthis sum.

Project emphases
The following graphics show the ten most importantproject emphases in the USA, Great Britain and Ger-many. It is amazing that in the USA about 20 % of allproject emphases deal with the topic Compliance whilethis is seeming not to play any role in Germany andalso in Great Britain. On the other hand the eGovern-ment topic appears only into Great Britain as an ownemphasis. Germany lies here still clearly back, some-thing also in other inquiries always wiederabzeichnet.

Needed technologies for central projects
With the technologies the used conceptuality plays ofcourse an important role. While one is speaking of e-lectronic archiving, a combination of data base, appli-cation and storage system in Germany, management isa clear separation in the English-speaking countriesbetween records as Archiverwaltungskomponente andseparately considered storage systems observe. This isshown also in the new trend ILM Information lifecyclemanagement that rolls up the archiving subject "frombelow". Yet (still) not with the topic records manage-ment is associated.

Most important obstacles to the commitment of en-terprise content management
The greatest problem for a successful implementationof an ECM solution displays still the missing sense andrather the inadequate specification of the needs on thepart of the potential users. These do not know fre-quently which possibilities an ECM solution offers andwhich advantages could pull it out of this solution. Theinquiry in the three countries confirms this.

Law & LegislationIn the environment of the legal specifications and regu-larities some currently does itself. The discharge of thelaw to the documentation of settlement prices heatedthe topic GDPdU again since also for the first time arereal-time punishment threats there here. The SRVwV, leading also for the topic electronicsignature, scanning and archiving with public-legalhealth insurances and social insurers, finds out somechanges and complements that do the qualified elec-tronic signature possibly also for other field of applica-tion than the commitment while scanning. three topics we occupy us in the next newsletter. To-day it is a question at first once of the topics "E-mailarchiving and Spamming", a draft for a "Freedom-of-Information-Act" into Germany, and a new guideline ofthe European union on the topic "Protection of the in-tellectual estate".
Sharper punishments for Spammer
In spite of the new law against the unlouder competiti-on, the spam flood hardly seems to stop. Techniciansand politicians think from that about clearly sharpermeasure.
Even if politicians occupied themselves with theproblematic nature first late in Germany in electronicpost office boxes, recently nevertheless the reworkedlaw was decided on so against the unlouder competiti-on in an across parties way in the Bundestag. Also thecries for help were cause for that presumably from thenet developer municipality that guaranteed for ama-zement at the beginning still in justice and economydepartment.
However in the meantime the law just decided on doesnot seem sufficient to many representatives, to stop theflood of spam E-Mail in fact. New drafts, as for e-xample of Ulrich Kelber, in the SPD for telecommunica-tion responsible, even imprisonment with which the"Top-50", that is the boldest senders, are supposed to bedeterred plans for the Spammer now. Additional issupposed to be punished also the address throat andthe many trick-rich veiling tactics during the spamdispatch in a clearly harder way.
Also the technicians do not seem that of the Spammer tothe rapid innovation and evolution cycles hardly in-creasedly. In the summer the German anti-spam taskForce (ASTF) wants to imagine some already longerdebated steps in the form of a Whitepapers(.http://www.eco.de)
Enervated indeed customers of doubtful mail can pro-tect E-Mail-filters, however, to lose the risk, importantjobs or communications to the filter, seems too high tomany. Control of the filtered out E-Mail has that onewould become, next to an increased amount of work,to a further shop loading of the nets lead.
The spam-E-Mail topic is also an important factor fromthat during the plan of archiving systems. On the onehand one does not want to store the garbage, on theother hand must be guaranteed, however, also underCompliance points of view, that all are again findbar le-gal and commercial relevant news. In wieweit thepromises of the providers of automatic classificationsoftware with the innovation strength of the Spammerhere to be able to keep up must still be proved. (FH/Kff)
Freedom of Information
To many states a FOI (Freedom-of-Information-Act) al-ready belongs since longer to the good clay. He is thedriving strength for numerous projects in the publicsector, where it goes around the window from archivesfor the access of the public. Initialwas planned in the guideline to pursue the offenses only at a"lasting damaging" to let this arcade was dropped, however. Many Consumer- and Datenschuetzer are about the guide-line not happy and see the danger, that "Exchange stock ex-change user" to be equated "with the Organized Commit-ting". Seemingly attempts to check the music industry inparticular the use of the exchange stock exchanges on twoways, on the one hand on the legal way, where all possibili-ties are emptied and on the other hand, to beat the exchangestock exchanges with their own arms. The first way led inthe USA to embarrassing headlines, as the music industrytwelve-jaehrige as heavy criminals outen wanted to go on, inspite of that is supposed to be begun now in Germany, zivil-rechtlich against users of exchange stock exchanges and in-deed against those ones that make music titles freely accessi-ble on their hard disk in internet. This principle of the deter-rent will keep maybe some users in future from being gottenmusic illegally in the internet that becomes problem but doesnot remove problem in spite of that. "DTX" - PROJECT CONSULTDocument Technology Index
DTX 20040414
DTXThe DTX hunts the goal to document the market trendof the DRT-rung of the information technology sector. To that selected stock exchange noted providers areput together. In order to facilitate an appraisal of theDRT sector evolution, the DTX is opposed to that DAXand a reference index DTV. The DTV is based on theshare prices of the keyplayers from the informationtechnology sector. In addition single enterprises chang-ing regularly and their trends are included into theshare price arrangement. The DTX appears once perquarter.
The stock exchange quotations are understood in spiteof that for every month and expressed in the DTX. Inthis way can in particular stock exchange activities asfor example splits are pursued better.
The evolutions of DTX, DTV and DAX as well as theenterprises listed in the DTX and DTV are given to ef-fective immediately also in percent in order to be ableto express the value evolution more precisely. DTX andDTV reflect in future the average prozentualen modifi-cations of the enterprises again. Besides also theprozentualen modifications of the individual enter-prises are indicated. All prozentualen values alwaysrefer in this case to the values of the former quarter.
Technology trendThe technology trend is not a stock market trend, but itis based on technological innovations of the DRT-enterprises, known to the PROJECT CONSULT. Follow-ing symbols are used for the trend arrangement:
High potential through new technology
Potential
Harmonious
No newer technological evolutions
Technological stagnation
PROJECT CONSULT Comment:The announcement, that the system beta's limited companyat first 51 %, later all parts the limited company small servi-ce takes over, was incorporated at the stock exchange verypositively. The share price of beta system's, however also theone of small service, accelerated clear. IXOS on the otherhand had to lose some after a continuous rise since the fall2003 now. Nevertheless the future with OpenText has tounite with market operators Irritationen led. The limitedcompany GFT which also the GFT Solutions belongs to asDRT providers duempelt wider before themselves there.Whether the HYPARCHIV engagement still long is grantedat least is in insider rings controversial. For the DTX it soonbecomes, however, even narrower. After Mer-gers&Acquisitions forced already twice for the re-organization of the index, further issues are to be reckonednow from the list. (FH/Kff)
