CASA NEWSLETTER - JANUARY 8, 2016

Social 9:00 am - Meeting 9:30 February meeting—Feb 5, 2016

Start the new year with some creative inspiration

from our January demo with Bonnie Nelson, Green

Valley artist and teacher.

Bonnie Nelson has a national presence as an

award winning water media artist. She has exhibit-

ed widely and has had one person shows in New

Mexico, Texas, New York, Maine, Arizona and

Wyoming.

She came to the Southwest following a two

decade career as “Artist in Residence” and teacher

in her Maine Coast Gallery. She currently main-

tains unique studios in Arizona and her home state of Wyoming.

Always intrigued by the varied contrasts of light and shadows, her current work reflects this deep

influence. Her classes in Green Valley are enthusiastically attended by students who share her pas-

sion for art. Her work is currently being shown in Manos Gallery, Tubac, Arizona.

January Newsletter

After the December gathering, those of us who worked to make it happen received a well writ-

ten ‘Thank You’ from Peggy Steffens. Her compliments and recognition affected each of us

and it made all the work of it disappear!

Maybe a New Year’s goal might be to make a difference. Ask yourself, how can I make a differ-

ence this year; in my own life and in my artistic endeavors? Ask yourself “What if” and follow

your own advice. Maybe its meditation, a workshop with your favorite artist, journaling, setting

artist’s dates with yourself or reaching out to someone who needs your help. Can one person

make a difference? You bet – Peggy did! You can too. Happy New Year!

If you missed our December meeting, you missed a wonderful program with Mabel at the helm,

along with Patricia Dickson and Paula Sherick-Jimenez, and as always, there was Karen

Mulcahy taking care of the generous display of food . Nina Beland, Perdita Andrews,

Sharyn Binam and Mabel shared great ideas and ‘tips, tricks and techniques’ for doing what

we do best....art! Sharyn was somehow able to also take notes and Mabel created a tip sheet

for us to follow.

We had beautiful music by Agnes Paulson, fabulous door prizes, and personal paintings in the

gift exchange along with delicious food.

It was disappointing that more members did not come to this festive gathering.

Looking ahead to the January 8th meeting, we begin the New Year with Deanna’s workshop

‘Three Layers Deep’, and a demonstration by Bonnie Nelson called “Loose and Juicy” that you

won’t want to miss and I would hope that some of your bring work to show as well.

Deanna Thibault is moving to Texas and we will miss her presence, her art, and her gen-

erous teaching. She has been the gift that keeps on giving and many, many people have grown

from her classes. Deanna has been an integral part and volunteer in our art community groups

a long, long time serving as president of both CASA and SAWG and we can’t believe she will

be moving!

I understand that Ruth Canada is extremely ill and she is another wonderful contributor to many

of us plus SAWG and CASA. She is so talented, kind and a fabulous artist that we have all

learned from. Let’s pray for her and be thankful for all she gave to us.

I hope you signed up for the Ventana/CASA show and painted in between wrapping gifts and

sending cards as you prepared for the holiday celebrations. Our membership continues to grow

and we are close to 100 members again!

Let’s have a truly Happy New Year filled with new experiences, new techniques, new friends

and new discoveries. Our April Workshop has only 2 vacancies! Jan
