How to Register
Welcome to the TR Office Arlington County’s Therapeutic Recreation Office provides recreation programs for individuals with
disabilities. We strive to have something for everyone!
Q: How do we do it?
A: We offer classes that are specifically designed for individuals who require additional support to
participate in recreation programs.
Q: What are Adapted Classes?
A: Adapted classes typically have a lower participant to instructor ratio, are smaller in size, and are
paced to meet the needs of the group. They are designed specifically for individuals with
disabilities.
Q: What is Inclusion?
A: Through staff training, adaptations, and sometimes additional staff, we can provide modifications
for any general recreation classes found in Enjoy Arlington.

Arlington County doesn’t want our fee be a barrier to your participation. We can provide reduced fees based on your household income. Call 703-228-4747 or go to parks.arlingtonva.us/classes and click on ‘Get a reduced fee’ on the right hand side of the page for more information.

Youth Classes (ages 2-12)
Dance Aerobics Dance and exercise in this cardio class that caters to adults with disabilities. This unique adapted fitness class combines hip hop, ballet, Latin and Afro-Brazillian moves. It will keep you on your toes from beginning to end, increasing endurance and conditioning the heart. Langston-Brown Inst: MacLear

Teen/Adult Splash Individuals with disabilities will have fun and begin to develop water skills through group work and individual attention. The program will focus on water exploration, safety and adjustment, and other elementary aquatic skills from Level I & II. Fun & Fitness Fitness and wellness come together in this program for adults with disabilities. Each month participants will have an opportunity to explore different sports, fitness classes, simple healthy cooking activities, or participate in a games/crafts focused on wellness. Arts & Crafts –Beginners
Individuals with disabilities will experiment with various materials and mediums to create beautiful and dynamic works of art. We will explore different techniques such as papermaking, brush painting, collage and using recycled materials, presented through theme-based projects. Arts & Crafts –
Advanced
Individuals with disabilities will look at various styles of art with a critical eye and create works of art based on techniques used by the masters. Intended for those who took the Adult Arts and Crafts class and are ready for more intensive work. Artists will begin to hone and refine their personal style while exploring various materials and new mediums. This class is for individuals with disabilities that can work independently with minimum support or prompts. Those who are at the beginner level should take the beginner class. have some fun!
You’re invited to join the club. This program is for individuals of all ability
levels. Staff to participant ratio varies.
Each social club offers 2-3 activities per month ranging
from social gatherings to community trips, volunteer experiences, performances
and more.

Gymnastics
Parent-Tot Gymnastics is a great activity to enhance balance, movement and coordination in a social atmosphere. Tots with disabilities work with a parent to learn basic gymnastics skills. The small class with an instructor to participant ratio of 1:5 gives kids the confidence they need to excel! Adult participation is required. Barcroft Fitness Center Inst: Staff

Music Therapy Children with disabilities can accomplish developmental goals through musical stimulus and musical play. Parents and caregivers benefit from bringing the Music Together® songbooks and CDs home to practice newly learned skills. There is an additional materials fee of $40 (one materials fee per family) that is included in the cost of the class. One infant, up to nine months old, can attend FREE with a registered sibling. Family Fun Night
This once a month drop in-in program is for families of children with disabilities ages 4-18. Each month will feature a new TR class or specialty visitor for families to tryout. Self-guided activity stations including gross motor, sensory, art, games, a quiet room and more!

Let’s Play Social Skills Join us for an hour of fun and exploration as children learn and strengthen their social skills through active play in a safe and healthy environ-ment. This class is designed for children with ADD/ADHD, high functioning autism, learning disabilities, and developmental delays. Children must be able to participate verbally in group activities. Friends Social Skills
A fun class designed to help children explore and understand their emotions through recreational play. Discussion topics include dealing with anger, understanding feelings, the power of positive thinking and handling stress. This class is designed for children with ADD/ADHD, high functioning autism, learning disabilities, and developmental delays. Children must be able to participate verbally in group activities.
