Announced Friday by ITV’s head of drama Polly Hill, the six-part series — the first col- laboration for 42 (“Ironbark,” “Watership Down”), Anonymous Content (“Mr. Robot,” “Maniac”) and ITV Studios label Shiver — will also be exec produced by the Emmy- and Golden Globe- nominated actor. “Wild Bill” will see Lowe play Bill Hixon, a U.S. police chief who lands in Boston, Lin- colnshire, with his 14-year-old daughter Kelsey in tow hoping they can flee their painful recent past. But this unfamiliar, unimpressed community will force Bill to question everything about himself and leave him asking whether it’s Boston that needs Bill, or Bill that needs Boston. “As an actor, Wild Bill is a larger than life character who’s outrageously articulate, has nothing to lose and revels in being an American fish out of water,” said Lowe. “As an executive producer, I’m excited to work with such talented part- ners and to come back to work in the U.K., which I always love.” “Wild Bill” was created by David Griffiths (“The Hunted,” “Collateral Damage”), Kyle Killen (“Halo,” “Awake”) and Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble (“Silent Witness”) and will be written by lead writers and showrunners Keeble and Appleton. Lowe will act as an exec pro- ducer alongside Eleanor Moran (“Rome,” “Being Human,” “Watership Down”) and Rory Aitken (“In Darkness,” “Water- ship Down”) on behalf of 42, and Tim Carter (“Traitors”), manag- ing director of ITV Studios label Shiver. Writers Appleton and Keeble, creator Griffiths, Killen, Scott Pennington and Keith Redmon from Anonymous Content also join the team as exec producers. [Rowling] having to field all these various feelings from people out there. I felt bad that she had to take that. But ultimately, there is real controversy,” Depp said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “The fact remains I was falsely accused, which is why I’m suing the Sun newspaper for defamation for repeating false accusations. J.K. has seen the evidence and therefore knows I was falsely accused, and that’s why she has publicly supported me. She doesn’t take things lightly. She would not stand up if she didn’t know the truth. So that’s really it.” This is the first time Depp has addressed the impact of the accu- sations on his role in the Rowl- ing films. While Heard’s camp has vehemently insisted that Depp is lying, saying his deni- als are “shamefully continuing his psychological abuse” toward Heard, Rowling has spoken out on Depp’s behalf. “‘Harry Potter’ fans had legiti- mate questions and concerns about our choice to continue with Johnny Depp in the role. As David Yates, long-time ‘Potter’ director, has already said, we naturally considered the possi- bility of recasting. I understand why some have been confused and angry about why that didn’t happen,” Rowling wrote in a statement on her website. “Based on our understand- ing of the circumstances, the filmmakers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies.” Depp sued the Sun for libel in June, and court proceedings will take place next month.
