Leisure Highlights 11 CONTACT US AT: 8351-9329, [email protected] Fri/Sat/Sun September 21~23, 2018 Cao Zhen [email protected] “Forty Years of Chinese Con- temporary Photography,” a new exhibition featuring photographs taken by Chinese artists from the late 1970s to the present, is being held at OCAT Shenzhen, provid- ing a comprehensive overview of Chinese photography. The grand exhibition divides the progression into four major phases: “The Rise of Unofficial Photography” (1976-1979), “New Wave Photography” (1980- 1989), “Experimental Photog- raphy” (1990-2006) and the establishment of experimental photography organizations from 2007 to the present. Curator Wu Hung believes that in the wake of societal, economic and cultural shifts domestically and internation- ally, the concept of Chinese contemporary photography has undergone major changes along- side developments in the broader art of photography. From amateur photographers in the late 1970s to photography groups in the 1980s to photogra- phers with experimental intent in the 1990s onwards, Chinese photographers have explored the characteristics of photogra- phy as a unique art form and the realm of human emotion, captured minute details of daily life and dedicated themselves to the social reform. Meanwhile, an exhibition of plum blossom paintings by Guan Shanyue and other Chi- nese masters is also being held until Oct. 10. Led by violinist Kirill Kobantschenko, Platform K+K Vienna consists of violin- ist Johannes Tombock, violist Michael Strasser, cellist Florian Eggner, double bass player Bartosz Sikorski and pianist Christoph Johannes Eggne. Most of them are members of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. While K+K is obvi- ously a reference to “kaiserlich und koniglich” (“imperial and royal”), it also stands for Kirill Kobantchenko. Kobantschenko is active as a chamber musician. Playing electronic music and working as a DJ, the versatile violinist gathered friends and colleagues who shared his interest in 2008 to found Platform K+K Vienna. A winner of the Prima la Musica competition in Austria in 1997 and 1999, Bakanic is one of the most sought-after accordionists today. He stud- ied folk music at the Johann Joseph Fux conservatory in Graz, classical accordion at Graz University of Arts and has made his mark as a jazz musician in Austria. His musical approaches and experiences blend subtly in his compositions, which com- bine the complex spontaneity of jazz, the temperamental passion of tango nuevo and the disciplined momentum of European classicism with the multifaceted traditions of European folk music. “Forty Years of Chinese Con-temporary Photography,” a new exhibition featuring photographs taken by Chinese artists from the late 1970s to the present, is being held at OCAT Shenzhen, provid-ing a comprehensive overview of Chinese photography.
