There’s Something for Everyone.

Before the start of baseball season I sat down with my two year-old daughter, Haylee, and set out to prove a point that the “experts” on ESPN really have no idea what they are talking about.

I printed out the logos of every team in baseball and laid them out by division and told her to pick her favorites.

With the exception of the Kansas City Royals every team she picked is within five games of their division, or the wild card.

Not only was she one of three people in the United States that picked the Washington Nationals to win the National League East, she also had them with the best record in the Majors.

Point proven. Now that the NFL season is finally

upon us, I thought we would take another whirl at it. When I told Haylee it was time to make her picks, Derek piped up and wanted in on the fun. Here we go...

AFC EastThere has been a lot of talk lately

about the similarities between Tom Brady and his boyhood idol, Joe Montana. The difference between the two is Joe Montana’s signature moments are of him, arms raised in victory after throwing yet another game winning touchdown. Tom Brady’s signature moments are of a ball flying off the foot of kicker Adam Vinatieri. As of late Brady hasn’t been able to pull through in pressure moments, luckily for him, there won’t be any pressure moments in the AFC East this season. Picks: Derek — Jets,

Haylee — Dolphins, Dave — Patriots.AFC North

In a division that had three playoff teams in 2011, you could flip a coin and have a pretty good chance at being right. The Baltimore Ravens were one dropped pass away from representing the AFC in last year’s Super Bowl, and the Pittsburgh Steelers were one Tim Tebow prayer away from going to the divisional round of the playoffs. I expect more of the same this year, but with Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco in a contract year, I give the slight edge to the Ravens. Picks: Derek — Bengals, Haylee —Ravens, Dave — Ravens.

AFC SouthFor the past 10 years one team has

owned this division, but that changed last year when the Houston Texans finished the season with a third string quarterback and a 10-6 record. Basically you could walk off the street and win games in this division. This won’t even be close, in the worst division in football I see the Texans running the (division) table. Picks: Derek — Texans, Haylee — Titans, Dave — Texans.

AFC WestLast year this division had three

teams (Broncos, Chargers and Raiders) go 8-8. Don’t be surprised if that happens again. After anointing Tim Tebow the greatest thing to happen to football since the invention of radio, Broncos fans quickly kicked him aside to welcome “the man with the bionic neck.” I got news for you, Eli’s big brother isn’t the difference maker in the AFC West, the Broncos

By Dave DunmireEverybody knows the story of Cash

Hyde, the little boy from Missoula who was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive brain tumor before the age of two. His family started a Facebook page titled “I bet we can find 10,000 people to pray for Cashy Micheal Hyde,” the page wasn’t started to ask for donations, but to ask for prayers to help this sweet little boy battle cancer.

After joining joining the page I was browsing through pictures of the little boy and I saw one of him standing in front of a giant window, hands pressed against the glass, staring out into the world, as if he was telling everybody “I ain’t going down without a fight.”

Once I saw the picture, I saw an opportunity for Cashy’s supports to show their support online through social media. I took the picture, jazzed it up a bit and titled it “Team Cashy, The Boy of Steel.” Chances are, if you have ever been on Facebook, watched

TV or opened a newspaper, you have seen the picture. It was an instant hit. Not only in Montana, but world-wide.

Michele Steele knew Butte would rally around Cashy, “They were planning a benefit for him in Missoula and so I knew that was my way to help. I posted the link to his page on Facebook and asked for anyone that would like to donate items or money for the family for their benefit,” she said.

“Three days later I drove to Missoula with a car full of items donated by Butte people, but it wasn’t just Butte people that rallied, people from all over the United States pitched in.”

Cashy slowly made his way into remission and that Christmas he was able to spend it with his family, not in a hospital, but at his great grandmothers house in Utah.

Upon Cashy’s homecoming to Missoula there was another benefit. This time, Michele would be selling wrist bands to raise money for the Cashy Hyde Foundation -www.

cashhydefoundation.com - Again, Butte rallied and the Rastafarian colored bands could be seen by many around town.

Sadly, less than a year later, cancer once again reared it’s ugly head, and “The Boy of Steel” was sent back to California for treatment.

Upon hearing about his second battle with cancer, a group of Butte girls, and Scentsy consultants decided to help Cashy’s family financially, and at the same time put some Christmas smiles on the faces of sick children all over the United States.

They organized a “Buddy Drive,” Buddies are little stuffed animals with a removable scent pack made by Scentsy.

Their plan was for people to buy the Buddies that would then be donated to Children’s Oncology wards at Christmas time.

All of the commission they earned when the Buddies were purchased was then given

NFC EastNo slight to JFO, or the defending

Super Bowl Champions the New York Giants, but the Philadelphia Eagles might be the most talented team top-to-bottom in the NFL. The only thing could get in the way of a division crown for the Eagles is a an injury to special-teams ace Colt Anderson. Picks: Derek — Cowboys, Haylee — Cowboys, Dave — Eagles.

NFC NorthDo you really need an explanation

from me on this one? Picks: Derek —Da Bears, Haylee — in a “my daughter just broke my heart” moment — Lions, Dave — Da Bears.

NFC SouthIt’s been a tough offseason for the

New Orleans Saints. The distractions and suspensions will just put a chip on their shoulder and in-turn make them a more aggressive defense, which will hopefully lead to a flag every time a Saints defender touches a quarterback. The Atlanta Falcons quietly and confidently think they can take control of this division, with their explosive offense it’s tough to disagree. Plus, Michael Turner is on my fantasy team. Picks: Derek — Saints, Haylee — Buccaneers, Dave— Falcons.

NFC WestThe Seattle Seahawks have the

ugliest uniforms in the history of sports -- that includes the 1985 Houston Astros -- so they are automatically eliminated. The Arizona Cardinals have a third-grader playing quarterback. And the St. Louis Rams are still the St. Louis Rams. The 49ers win this division by default. Picks: Derek — 49ers, Haylee —49ers, Dave — 49ers.

The Thornton Building was built in 1900 and opened its doors to the public on May 5, 1901 as a hotel and apartment building. It was designed by the prestigious White and Lighell Architecture Firm and financed by W. D. Thornton. The Thornton Building cost

$75,000 at the time to build it.

It featured elaborate terra cotta balconies outside and hard wood floors and mosaic tiling inside. The building originally had a cast iron and glass canopy along the south facade as well. It was home to 100 rooms

with nine bathrooms per floor. The Thornton Building had a lobby, apartments, a cafe, a bar, a barber shop, a ballroom, a bowling alley and shuffle boards for entertainment for its tenants. It was considered one of the grandest buildings in the city when it was built.

President Theodore Roosevelt stayed in the Thornton Building on March 27, 1908. He ate in the public dining room at which the manager of the building left the doors open so everyone could see the president of the United States was eating

at their restaurant.On March 6, 1947

the building became headquarters of a club for employees of the Anaconda Copper Mining Company. It would later be home to multiple offices of the Montana Power Company. There was also a restaurant in the basement ran by Rose Rajacich and her daughters that catered mainly to the businessmen of Butte but welcomed everyone in the late 1970’s through the early 1980’s. The Thornton Building is currently used by multiple businesses.

Continued from page 4 aNNaBELLa & MaurICEto the Hyde family to help soften the financial blow that they have been hit with.

“Last year we were able to gather right around 150 Buddies to gift to kids on Christmas.” said Nikki DeShazo, the mastermind behind the drive.

“This year I would like to see that doubled.” She says that because Cashy’s cancer has returned for the third time.

“We are just trying to do the right thing,” said Kristina Dunmire, the other instrumental part of the Buddy Drive, “we want to help the Hyde family, and other children suffering from this horrible disease at the same time.”

After fighting this battle over and over Cashy’s family decided that enough is enough. They would keep him at home and try to cure him, or at least keep him comfortable, through using a full raw organic fruit and vegetable diet and through using help of the cannabis

oil.So while Cash is at home battling

cancer like Muhammad Ali in his prime, you can help, and this is how...

Go to www.ndeshazo.scentsy.us or www.kdunmire.scentsy.us -- it doesn’t matter which one, it’s all for the same cause.

Click on the link titled “Cash Hyde Buddy Drive” and place your order.

You can also purchase a Buddy for yourself, and the commission made will still go to the Hyde’s.

“If you are ordering for yourself, ship it to you. If you are ordering a Buddy to donate, please contact myself or Kristina (email addresses are on their websites) for shipping address. It is imperative that I gather and store the buddies until shipping time arrives close to Christmas.” said DeShazo.

“Please help us, help the Hyde’s.”

Many times, I feel that people put too much emphasis on “accessories” and “amenities” when it comes to working out. These people have to have $150.00 shoes and $30.00 pairs of socks and $50.00 shorts and shirts specifically made to wick away sweat and sweatbands for their head, arms, and legs. People would like to go to the gym with the nicest cable machines and the newest tread-mills and use ellipticals with a TV screen built in.

Most of the time, when I work out, I wear a thirty dollar pair of Converse and a $15 dollar pair of shorts I picked up at Costco. I have had some of my best workouts running on a trail, doing push-ups in the dirt, and pull-ups on a tree limb. Don’t worry about what you look like. Just do your workout.
