RESOLUTION OF THE ADVISORY COMlvIITTEE OF THE NAVAJO TRIBAL COUNCIL

Reserving Certain 11ineral Lands for leasing by Competitive Bid

WHEREAS:

1. By Paragraph No o 5 of Advisor.y Committee Resolution No. ACS-80-,: as amended by Advisory Committee Resolution No. AC0-69-53, the Advisory Committee of the Navajo Tribal Council and the Area Director are empowered to put any mineral lands of the Navajo Reservation up for competitive bid with leases to be granted to the highest bidder.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

1. The following described areas of the Navajo Reservation are hereby vuthdrawn from disposition for mining purposes except by competitive bidding:

The point of beginning is at the junction of Oljetoh Hash with ·the San Juan River; thence south along the western bank of Oljetoh for a distance of approxiraately 25 miles to the junction of Oljetoh 1~ash and Taeye-ha-tsazi Canyon; thence westward around the northern base of Tyende }iesa, Skeleton Nesa, to the head ot Nakai Canyon; thence around the northern end of ZiJner ¥Iesa to the head of Piute Canyon; thence northward along the eastern bank of Piute ~rash to its junction vti.th the San Juan River; thence easterly along the south bank of the San Juan Fiver to its junc­tion with Oljetoh ~'Jash, the point of begllll).i:ng.

2. The Chairman of the Tribal Council is here by empowered with the consent of the Secret~J of the Interior or his authorized representative to establish rules and regulations for disposition of mining rights other than for oil and gas in the above-described area by competitive bid, and to do all things necessar.y on the part of the Navajo Tribe, including signing leases and other documents, to carry out the purpose of said rules and regu­lations 0

3. This resolution shall not affect valid existing rights in the area described above.

I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was duly considered by the Advisory Committee of the Navajo Tribal Council at a duly called meeting at Window Rock, Arizona, at which a quorum was present and that same 1'1as approved by a vote of 8 in favor and 0 opposed, this 19th day of July,1955. - -
