Introduction • 2001:- JD power association (JDPA) announced the result of Initial quality study ranked ford motor company seventh in the world . • 2003:- ford was ranked 4 th in the IQS result. Analyst felt that the improvement was due to the initiative taken by the Ford in long back since late 1999 in the field of six sigma. • Company trains the employee upto black belt and they take the leadership initiative. • Pauline Burke” I liked the philosophies of six sigma . I liked the disciplinary approach to solving the problems.I feel great fixing problems for customers and making the company stronger for improving the quality. When employee is happy they do better work , the customer wins.”

Birth of six sigma

• Journey of Six Sigma in FORD begin in 1999 for improving the quality of ford vehicle.

• Six sigma invented by motorola in 1980 .• Phong Vu director of quality for global truck bussiness did

research on companies who implemented Six Sigma . Vu suggested for Six Sigma in Ford.

• Six Sigma in Ford called as “consumer Driven six Sigma”.• Objectives:-1. Enhancing vehicle quality 2. Improving customer satisfaction level.

• This is the first step in implementation of Six Sigma .

• Jan 2000, top 50 executive receive training including CEO Jacques Nasser

• 2 days training program where they were given orientation over six sigma process and its aplication.

Green belt

• It’s a week training comprised of basic of six sigma , tools and its implementation.

• Role of green belt:-1. Assisting the black belt in implementation of the project.2. Sharing experience with other employee once project

has been copmpleted.Training classified in three types:-• Technical • Manufacturing • transactional

Black Belt

• Plays an important role in six sigma .• Trained for total duration of six weeks in four

month.• Training was imparted on six sigma tools:-Process mapping Cause and effect diagramFailure mode and effect analysis Design of experimentMistake proofing in their daily work

Master black belt

• Choosen by the management and the project champion .

• Responsible for providing training to green belt and black belts.

• Help black belt in in necessary steps • Looks mega project of ford and train senior

leaders.

• Belonged largely mangerial personnel.

• Trained for three to five days .

• Together with the Master black belt they spot the project of six sigma and provide the resources required for completion of the project.
