General Update This consultation paper provides key information about proposed changes to the MSS Sustainability

Training Package, and should be read prior to providing feedback on any drafts.

The proposed changes to training package components have been informed by feedback from

stakeholders and overseen by industry representatives who form Technical Advisory Committees

(TACs). The Sustainability Industry Reference Committee have final authority over the MSS

Sustainability Training Package.

Once the public consultation period ends on Friday December 1st, 2017, the TACs will meet to

discuss feedback which will inform the development of draft 2, scheduled for public consultation in

January 2018.

Please note, not all MSS coded units are being reviewed as part of this project. Attachment A lists all Training Package components that are included in this project.

Submitting feedback Feedback should be emailed to [email protected] by December 1st, 2017. Draft training

package components have been provided in word to enable changes to be marked up.

Please note, it is just as important for us to receive feedback telling us you agree with the changes as

it is to provide feedback telling us where there is opportunity for improvement.

Key Information about Proposed Changes An overview of the changes is provided below, accompanying this are key questions to consider

when reviewing the drafts. Attachment A lists all 71 units that are included in this project and

provides a summary of changes.

Qualifications

The main feedback received was that there were some skills gaps in the qualifications around project

management and leadership. Additional electives have been added to address this gap.

There was also feedback that the qualifications’ packaging rules required a high number of units

compared with other qualifications. There was feedback that industry was sometimes undertaking

statements of attainment rather than whole qualifications because of this.

Skill Set - NEW

A new Skill Set has been developed: Lead energy and GHG reduction. This skill set is for individuals

who are responsible for identifying opportunities to manage and improve energy and greenhouse

gas (GHG) reduction processes within an organisation across any sector. The individual will be

responsible for project managing the audit and procuring specialised technical experts as required.

• Performance Evidence was often a repeat of the performance criteria or was introducing new

skill requirements not listed in the performance criteria. This is not the intent of this field. This

has been reduced to include key information, usually about frequency and volume

• There was a significant amount of guidance/superfluous information in the Assessment

Conditions. This has now been reduced to focus on the key conditions that must be in place for

assessment.
