LIVING ROOM IN POD 2 TECHNICAL SECTION 1/5 THE PODS PLUG-IN-PARIS 04 BIRD'S EYE VIEW CONTEXT : We chose the city of Paris, as a starting point for this project of The City Above The City , particularly the 13th district on the Left side of the Seine. Little touristy, it presents an original urban planning in the capital from a development plan in the late sixties to demolish the workers' districts considered unhealthy and build on 87 hectares many towers and apartment buildings in the spirit of the Charter of Athens of Le Corbusier. Unfortunately, öfty years later , the area su ffers from unattractive architectural image. We found an interest in this site and especially for this building that has already been an intervention from Californian artist Shepard Fairey realizing a gigantic graph Rise Above Rebel on 40 meters high, visible at the corner of Auriol boulevard and Jeanne d'Arc street. THE PROJECT : As a follow of this artwork, we propose to requalify the building, capping the roof by building wooden housing made on a surface of 82m long by 16.5m wide. Beyond the idea of building wood on the principles set by the program of the competition, which we share with great enthusiasm, we envisage a concept of modular and transportable construction ! Referring to the work of Peter Cook of Archigram group on the project Plug-in-City . The project is based on the design of three basic modules : Pod1 (5x5x3,2m) ; Pod2 (10x5x3,2m) ; Pod3 (15x5x3,2m). On the basis of a 5x5m frame, the draft is freely composed by the assembly and stacking of pods, such a construction Lego or Kapla®. Thus, the architecture is made up of solids and voids . This gives urban spaces such as streets, terraces and views over the city of Paris. The arrangement of the Pods is organized in order to access to each apartment are accessible independently, with views and a private terraces or gardens. Together they form a residential area on the roofs of Paris ! An important place is left to the vegetation in the gaps left between the Pods. The entire project consists of 40 units including 14 Pods1 (studio-21sqm apartments), 15 Pods2 (45 sqm apartments) and 11 Pods3 (68 sqm apartments). Each of the pods is brought to the site portion of 2.5m wide (half) to be so transportable on trucks. They are hoisted by crane from the roof and assembled on site. Elevators and stairs of the building are extended roof. A circulation light steel structure built allows to connect all the apartments. MATERIALS : The Pods are composed entirely of wooden structure. For this project, we use di fferent elements of MetsäWood®. - The øo o rs and ro o fs are insulated Ripa Kerto® - 360mm - The walls are wood frame with 240mm elements of FinnJoist - The walls are Kerto®-T LVL wall studs All Pods are covered with wood siding with 3 shades of grey corresponding to lengths of 3 Pods. Using Kerto®-Ripa helps make each independent cell and thus to lead the project through contemporary architecture with strong expression , marked by a succession of cantilever and accessible terraces .
